Pre-Trip My thank you Grandma blow out trip!

Please bear with me because this is my first attempt at any kind of trip report. I've had a lot of experience reading everybody's reports, so it may not be TOO bad. ;)

First off let me properly introduce ourselves. I'm Kim, and my DH (not technically, but close enough after 11 years together) Steve. We thoroughly enjoy getting our Disney on, and we generally make at least one DLR trip a year so we don't go through Matterhorn Macaroon withdrawals. This was from our Walk in Walt's Footsteps tour a couple of years ago when they let you go through the Dream Suite.

These are our fur babies. This is Kylie's cousin (@Tony the Tigger ), Kricket. She's two.

And this is Jaeger. He's only one.

And we can't forget about Gizmo (a.k.a. Mo)

These guys will be staying with his son while we are off playing. Small advantage of having a mid-20's son that doesn't have a lot of vacation time saved up. ;)

This trip is being made thanks to my Grandma who passed away a couple of years ago. She left me a nice chunk of change, and I have been the responsible adult with the majority of the money but I know that she would want me to do something that I absolutely LOVE too. That being said we are splurging a bit with this trip! We will be staying at The Polynesian with a theme park view!!! I'm sooooo excited about that! Steve has NO idea how much I'm spending on the trip, and it's probably best he doesn't find out. :cautious: This is the first time for him staying inside the Disney bubble at WDW. In the past I have stayed at the CBR with my parents, and at French Quarter with a friend. We stayed at the Swolphin for our last trip 5 years ago...at least I think that's right. Anyway it's been quite a while since we've been to WDW, and we're looking forward to some of the changes.

I need to enlist the help of my fellow WDW'ers for ADR ideas. The one and only ADR Steve has absolutely no say in is lunch at BoG. I was able to snag a reservation this morning...SOOOO excited!! The hitch to planning meals with Steve is that he is one of those people that food is simply a necessity for, and doesn't understand the fun in trying new foods or splurging a bit from time to time. He is also an incredibly "simple" eater...he won't eat chicken (or any meat) on the bone, no buffets, doesn't drink (which isn't a bad thing, but he doesn't always understand why I like to have a drink or two on vacation), and everything he eats is just "okay." I'll give you an example...we went out for a nice dinner at Skamania Lodge(https://www.destinationhotels.com/skamania/dining ) with his brother and his new girlfriend. We all had wonderful steak dinners, nice wine, and he requested the chef make him a grilled cheese sandwich!!! :jawdrop::facepalm::hilarious: I was momentarily mortified by his request, but got over it by the time I finished my wine.

That's all I got for now, but I will be sure to post updates as they come to me. Thanks guys for reading, and sending me any pixie dust and suggestions you might have! I'm on my own planning for this, but I have some time since the trip isn't until the first part of May. :)

Sounds like a wonderful trip is taking shape! Poly is on my bucket list but P likes AKL more so we end up there when we go deluxe. Someday I'll convince him!

I was thinking about AKL for this trip, but is was way too affordable for this trip. (Now that's a statement I never thought I would say/type!!) I could easily steer Steve into staying at AKL for another trip, but I knew I wouldn't be able to convince him to stay at the Poly...LOL! :hilarious: I'm embracing the splurge because it will be a while before I'm able to do it again. ;)

I'm at 92 days and counting and the Disney dreams are already starting. I know I spend too much time here when you guys are getting incorporated here and there. I see @lostpro9het 's Golden Monkeys scattered throughout...not just the beer, but actual Golden Monkeys (kinda' creepy). I sang karaoke with @Tony the Tigger after we dropped off Kylie and Kricket at their play date, and @BuddyThomas was my date because both PhilMonster and Steve were being sticks in the mud. We did quite the rendition of Love Shack...we KILLED it!! :hilarious::joyfull: Oh and @wdisney9000 kept popping up on the rides telling me I had a phone call. One last random thing that will make @ajrwdwgirl 's hubby ecstatic...he was singing with the Dapper Dans on Main Street!! :hilarious::hilarious:

I'm going to blame these dreams on the Nyquil and overall Disney excitement, but I can't imagine what my dreams will be like once my FastPass window opens up!!

Steve is starting to get into the planning a little bit more. He voiced wanting a special magic band for our trip. I'm game for it. He's looking at the Haunted Mansion Limited Edition, and I'm edging towards the Finding Nemo band for myself. Is it a pain to link the special magic bands to a reservation? I've never done that before...

I also snuck a peek at the upcoming menu for the Food and Garden Festival. I am DROOLING over here with some of the options! I am officially excited for this trip!!! Okay...who am I kidding...I was excited before I even booked the trip! :hilarious::hilarious::joyfull:

Woohooo!! 60 days left until our vacation!! Here are a few updates since it has been a while since I last posted. Sorry this is going to be super text heavy, but I'll throw in random pet pics to break it up.:cat:

I was able to upgrade our plane tickets for our LAX to Orlando part of the trip. We can handle sitting in regular economy for a couple of hours from PDX to LAX, but a five hour flight would've been pushing it. I was able to get us seated in the exit row which will give us a couple of extra inches and we won't have anybody reclining their seats which is an added bonus for Steve with his long legs. I like the extra space since I'm generally the one stuck in the middle.

I was also able to book FP this morning. I was worried about not being able to snag FoP, but it worked out just fine. So here is what the outline is looking like at this point in the game...it will probably change since Steve hasn't seen the FP yet...hehe!

We arrive on Cinco de Mayo at 7:00pm. We'll be taking MDE (a first for Steve since he's never stayed in the bubble before), so my fingers are crossed for luggage arriving to the Poly at a decent time since we are leaving Portland at 7:00am. It is a three hour difference for us, so in our brains it will only be 4:00 in the afternoon but we also understand the importance of attempting to assimilate to the time difference as quickly as possible. I'm thinking we will enjoy checking out the grounds, and possibly ordering the Polynesian Feast for the room that evening while we watch fireworks from our room.

Watching the snow2.jpg

Just imagine the furry ones being Steve and I looking out off the balcony at fireworks instead of these guys watching it snow out our front window. ;)

Sunday = Animal Kingdom Park
I'm trying not to book anything TOO early in the morning. Not going to do the park commando thing, and try to take a slightly laid back "go with the flow" attitude. We'll see how long that pans out for us because we always seem to go at full throttle when we're on vacation...LOL!
11:00 Expedition Everest
12:00 Dinosaur
2:00 FoP!!!!!
We will probably check out Satuli Canteen for lunch because I think he would like the bowls they serve. Is that a place that you can do mobile ordering? Fingers crossed, but if not we will live. ;) I was toying with getting a FP for FoLK, but with the other attractions taking precedence I figured it could take a back seat. Do you even really need a FP for the show? We have never seen it before, but I have seen everybody else's pictures so I'm excited to go.

I'm going to leave the evening open to possibly go to Disney Springs and go to Chef Art Smith's Homecoming. There aren't any decent reservation times available, but I'll keep hunting.

Monday = EPCOT Center
9:30 Test Track
11:40 Spaceship Earth
1:40 Living with the Land

Can I tell you guys how bummed I am that I had to choose between Test Track (which we both love) and Frozen (which we haven't experienced yet)? Steve probably wouldn't be thrilled about me using a FP for Frozen either...LOL! I would have to hide out like Mo does in our laundry basket on that one.

Mo's secret hiding place.jpg

It will be an ice cream afternoon for me at Ample Hills Creamery, and Steve can enjoy his soft serve at the Swolphin.

Ice cream Kricket.jpg

I'll update a little more later. Pitfall of writing this stuff at work is that I actually have to do some work every once in a while.:cautious::hilarious:

Yep you can do mobile ordering there! Just have a good look at the menu first because you will have to select your base/meat/sauce if you’re having a bowl and it’s easier to know what you want to have before starting up your mobile order!

I just realized something this morning as I was thinking about our upcoming extravaganza that I haven't posted a pic of the incredibly awesome woman that is making this trip possible!!
Steve and his girls.jpg

I would love to introduce to you to my grandma, Amanda. She and Steve shared a birthday, and this would've been her 92nd birthday party. She was the literally the luckiest lady on the planet! She always came home with prizes from BINGO (they actually made her stop playing for a while at her home because she was winning too much) and they would have to refill the slot machines when she went to Reno. She made it to 95 years old before she got called to go home with the rest of her family and loving husband that had been waiting patiently for her. She was the youngest of 13 siblings, and was married to my grandfather for 50+ years before he passed away 22 years ago. She was a wonderful cook, listener, and caring person. I miss her dearly, but I know that the last couple years of her life were not kind so it was a blessing in disguise for her to pass.

So thank you so very much Grandma. I will always love you and cherish the memories that I have. You are an amazing woman, and I am proud of all of your accomplishments throughout your incredible life.

Okay...now where did I leave off??

I believe it was Day 3 because I don't remember writing anything about Hollywood Studios yet. I am kind of bummed that Toy Story Land won't be open yet, but maybe that will make the crowds more manageable at that park. I'm excited for the changes to the park because it was needing a little bit (or maybe a lot) of help. HS is a half day park for us because Steve doesn't do well with screen rides, so that throws out Star Tours...might be a solo ride for me if wait times aren't too bad though.
9:00 Rock 'n' Roller Coaster (We love us some roller coasters!)
10:25 ToT (Looking forward to this since they changed DCA's version. I have to admit I do like the new version, but I still love the Twilight Zone for nostalgia's sake.)
11:30 Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular (Steve has never seen the shows at any of the parks, so I'm hoping the weather won't be too hot for us to want to seek out A/C)

I think our afternoon will entail either going back over to EPCOT or Disney Springs. My plan on taking things a little more easily may backfire on this day. We enjoy seeing a movie while on vacation, so this might be the best afternoon to do so.

Maybe I need to take a note from Kricket and Mo, and learn how to kick back a bit.
