It is with heavy heart and deep sadness that I type this.

My grandpa, Fred Schmauch, was taken off life support this evening, and died shortly after, at approximately 9 p.m.

He was truly one of the greatest men I have ever known.

Rest in peace.

Dan, it's never easy to lose a relative, especially one as close to you as your grandfather seems to have been. Know that he's no longer in pain and has gone to a better place. He'll watch over you and be as proud from there as he would have been from here.

Live your life with his memory in your heart. Pass on his values to your grandchildren and he'll never truly die.

My prayers are with you and your family.
