My Disneyland Trip Report

I was anxious to see the refurbed Small World, and it did not disappoint. I thought it was great. It was so subtle. We were searching every room for the additions, and had fun finding them.

I completely agree. I saw the refurb last June and was nervous about it because it was met with some controversy in the beginning, but I loved it. The new additions don't feel forced or contrived at all. The characters couldn't have fit any better if Mary Blair had designed them herself.

I love the Small World photos!!

Thanks, DisneyPrincess!

Yay! Another Tammy TR! Awesome pictures as usual. :D It's making me homesick. Can't wait for the rest!

Thanks, Nicole!! I wasn't sure where to put this one! My cruise reports don't really fit in the WDW trip report section either.

That is exactly how I felt!:)

Count me in as another one that loves the small world additions! They are really subtle and don't seem like they would detract from the ride at all!

Waiting for more! :D

This TR just proves to me that the Small World additions of Disney Characters was handled so graciously and elegantly that the attraction has been improved even more.

And I was of the previous opinion that Walt Disney's original It's A Small World as seen at the 1964-65 New York World's Fair, and then installed at Disneyland in 1966 was already the most artistically pure and perfect version of that classic attraction.

wf_smallworld.jpg

I've ridden four of the five Small World attractions (except Hong Kong), and firmly believed Disneyland's was the best and could never be improved.

But then in 2008 they shut the Disneyland version down for a year and redid it, and when it opened in 2009 it was even better! I'm surprised they haven't done this revamp to the WDW or Tokyo versions yet. At Disneyland, it turned out great and made a classically great attraction even better!

Bravo Disneyland USA! :sohappy:

That is such a great picture!! I am really suprised they haven't updated WDW yet. I know it was touchy when it was announced, but they did make it better, and the others should follow suit.:)

Sat – Today, we did something that’s hard for me to do at Disney – we slept in. We planned on starting the day at DCA, and it didn’t open until 10, so sleeping in it was. CA friends and twins wanted to hit some Fantasyland and Toontown attractions, so they went there at 8 for a couple of hours and met us at 10:00.

I, of course, took pictures while we waited:

We went right back to Toy Story, and it was down. We walked on Screamin and did a baby swap.

I love taking pics on Screamin to see what I can get. My dh hates it when I do this :):

By the time we were done with the baby swap, Toy Story was running again, but the wait was 40 minutes.:(

We decided to pass. As we were walking towards Mulholland, I remembered the single rider line. It is crazy short in the CA version. We walked back, and the single rider line wasn’t open. The cm said to try again in 20 minutes or so.

So back to Mulholland! The kids rode this one solo. I am not a fan of Mulholland. It’s not the theming, it’s the feeling that the car is going to shoot off the top of that thing.

After Mulholland we rode the Golden Zephyr again.

We decided to go use our Soarin Fastpasses and then try Lucky Fortune for the first time. Dh liked it, Ds – not so much. Ds is one of the pickiest eaters you’ll ever meet, so don’t take his word for it on that one. There are literally, about 6 things he eats in this world, and for some strange reason, orange chicken is one of them. He didn’t care for the orange chicken because there was no breading.

After lunch we went back to the single rider line, which still wasn’t open!!

Jessie was right across from the ride with no line, so I stopped for a new Facebook profile picture! Score!!:D

We got in the 30 minute line, and the kids entertained themselves with my camera:

By the time we got to the front, the single rider line opened. Still a great ride. Worth a 30 minute wait.

CA friends were at the front of the park, they walked until the boys fell asleep. We stopped on our way up there to walk through Blue Sky Cellar. I think overall the new things are going to be awesome. Coming from someone who has always liked DCA, proven by this trip when we spent 2 out of 3 days there, I’m not excited about some of the changes. I don't like losing the Golden Gate Bridge or the letters out front. Those are classics to me.

We also stopped for our traditional Mickey sourdough bread that the kids snack on for a couple of days.

We Fastpassed Tower of Terror and then rode Grizzly. It’s so much better than Kali. Disney got that one right the second time.

Since we were soaked, we left the park for a swim in the awesome Grand Californian pools. There are now 3 large pools, one kiddie pool, and two giant hot tubs in the same area. Even with a ton of people you can find somewhere that doesn’t feel crowded.

Tonight we had reservations at Goofy’s Kitchen. Goofy’s isn’t quite on par with Chef Mickey’s for us, but we’ve always enjoyed it. I also dislike indoor photography because I have not mastered my flash yet. I still feel the need to document though:

Dd got a birthday cupcake:

After we ate, we went back to DCA and rode Tower of Terror. It broke down right before we got on, so it took quite a while. Every single time I ride that ride, here or at WDW, I’m struck by what a great ride it is.

There was no line for Monsters Inc, so we rode that next. Then we walked back to Screamin and rode one more time.

Since Dd had a birthday button now, even though we were still completely stuffed from Goofy’s, she was insistent that we needed to walk through the Tortilla tour for her free pack of tortillas.

The fireworks at DL were starting then, so we sat and watched from inside DCA. I didn’t have my tripod but still got some decent shots.

After the fireworks it was 9:45. DL was open til 12, so I tried to talk someone into going over there with me. I had to be up at 12 to make dining reservations for someone, so I didn’t mind staying up late. Everyone was tired, so we went back to the room. I briefly entertained the thought of going to DL with my tripod, but I knew it would be so crazy, it’d be hard to use.

Sun – Last day…

I stayed up till midnight to make dining reservations, but wouldn’t you know it, the bug was fixed again, and it didn’t open until 3 CA time. I set my internal body clock  and woke up a few minutes before 3, made the resssies, and then went back to sleep.

The parks didn’t open until 10, and we had to leave around noon, so we didn’t buy tickets for the last day. We made plans to meet CA friends at the Jazz Kitchen for beignets. Downtown Disney was crazy packed! There was a walk for children that morning and all the participants were there. I got a breakfast platter from the Jazz Kitchen and it was delicious.

After breakfast, Dd had birthday money burning a hole in her pocket, so we went shopping. One of the twins broke a Jack Skelllington figure in World of Disney , but the cm’s would not let them pay for it under any circumstances.

We watched the candy shop making the cutest caramel apples ever:

I was also trying to get a shot of them for the Gap casting call that’s going on right now.

It was easy to get them one at a time. The hard part with these boys is getting them together!! See, look at one of them making a getaway:lol::

At noon, we said our goodbyes and left for the airport. I waited for lunch so I could eat at Baja Fresh at the airport. Oh how I’ve missed it.:D

It was sad to leave, but we had a great time. I love the Villas, and we will definitely go back. The point charts for the villas are way way way too high, so that will prevent us from regular trips. Unless the Air Force sees fit to send us back to CA soon, then our next trip will probably wait until DCA is finished. I can’t wait to see it!!

couldn't agree more  the expansion will be amazing, no doubt, but it will be sad to see parts of the classic DCA go. I think in the process Disney forgot that a good portion of guests actually like the park the way it is now. Oh well - on the bright side there's plenty of great additions to look forward to
