Must Dont's While You' re at Disney

Hmm... This is a good thread. Usually I'm so busy thinking about what I want to do it never occurs to me to think what I don't want to do. So here goes..

American idol
Parades
Most shows
Taking pictures with characters
Movie in Canada
Character meals
Stitch great escape
Disney quest
Water parks

With that said that's all going to change now that I have babies. I'm sure parades, character meals and shows will surely be part of my next trip.
If you haven't done the Canada movie in a few years you may have missed the one with Martin Short....it is actually much more entertaining than the original 'documentary' on Canada.

I shall never again tie a lasso around one of the castle spires, and swing back and forth while shouting, "last one in the moat's a rotten egg."
By the way, Disney handcuffs hurt the wrists, in case you were wondering.

Sure did!

Our Must Don'ts:

Magic Kingdom: DH hates IASW and I usually let him skip it as a result because DS6 and I love it. I don't personally have a "don't" at MK.

Epcot: I don't really have anything here either. The closest for me would be Innoventions just because it's such a far cry from what my brain associates as being in that space (Communicore) BUT we do it on occasion just to see if there's anything that catches DS6's eye. DH is not a huge fan of Mission Space. He'll do it if everyone else is but he can skip it and be perfectly happy.

DHS: American Idol (sorry - waste of my time and DH agrees)

AK: Kali River Rapids... I know I know but hear me out. DH loves it and I'm sure so will DS6 now that he's become a fish (loves to swim) but I absolutely hate getting that wet (or the possibility of it). I don't like the idea of walking around the rest of the day soaked.

Downtown: Characters in Flight (even if it hadn't been shut down to be upgraded... I am terrified of heights unless I'm strapped in and connected to a track.

I can't say there are really any resorts that are a "don't" for us. The Contemporary isn't our style at all but I would stay there in a heart beat to have the proximity to MK and a great view of the night shows etc.

I can't think of anything else on property I'd consider a "don't."

Did you reply to the MUST DO's? I'd be interested to see what you do enjoy! : ) LOL

I enjoy a lot at the parks, and there are plenty of things that I must do and recommend to most people to do, but those were things I recommend not doing. Have I experienced some of those things on occassion, yes, but when you think of the average guest or even the once a year visitor, there is honestly so much to do and see and appreciate that I feel like all the things I stated should be otherwise avoided unless you have the time, money, or absolute interest. Some things I listed like the Tiki Room are just my opinions. For instance, many people think Country Bears, Tiki Room, and Carousel of Progress are all classics, however, only CoP is my cup of tea. In fact, I LOVE CoP. I think people can also get more out of CoP than Tiki Room or Country Bears, thus I avoid those two.

You may also note that I didn't knock down Imagination, Ellen's, Innoventions, Monsters, CoP, Disney Junior, Celebrate a Dream Come True, Mad Tea Party, Pizza Planet, Rafiki's Planet Watch, etc despite people who don't like them or them not being my favorites.

I'm lucky to be able to visit whenever I want, so I've exerienced a lot. My Don't Dos are just based on my experiences and thinking of the average visitor in mind who are limited on time and money.

Since I've only been once, this is what my "dont's" are:

- Stitch...worst attraction ever in my book
- Turkey legs - I can't get past how they look
- Dole Whip - not a fan
- Grilled cheese sandwich at the Quick Service at Poly (oh my, it was awful)

Will have to see what gets added after December trip :O

There are some things in the parks my family only wants to do every five years or so.

These are the Top Five Attractions We Typically Skip from year to year:

1. Enchanted Tiki Room
2. Speedway
3. Everything in Tomorrowland except Space Mountain
4. Splash Mountain (we don't like getting wet unless we are at the water parks)
5. Riding the MK train around the park

We have a family trip down to WDW every year so we know that we will go to these things again in the future, just to experience them again, but they are definitely things we do only every five years or so.

This is interesting to me because I just love the Dole Whip and the turkey legs...they are two of my Must Do things.

I don't know if I will ever go through the Stitch ride again. It's one of the few things in a Disney park that I can honestly say that I didn't like at all. I felt very claustrophobic in there, and my stomach turned when they blew that chili dog sent in my face. I honestly can still kind of smell it when I think of it and it's not pleasant.

It was also so loud in that ride it felt like a kind of torture. Not the best feeling from a ride in the parks. I'd love to see this ride retired and sent to Yesterdayland.

*DONT HATE ME* I hate HATE the Carousel of Progress! It's soooooooo boring and cheesy. Im willing to do it to get out of the heat o_O

Also, Soarin - I don't understand the hype
American Idol - I dont like the show past the auditions and don't understand how it became a ride at Disney! lol

And people who bump into my stroller! I do my BEST to watch out, to watch ankles and I never EVER use it to "make my way" through things, so it really drives me nuts how many people do that (I know, I know....but thats just something that really irked me last time...LOL)

Britt -

I think the Carousel of Progress is something that is a "once in a lifetime" for a lot of people, so don't feel bad. I happen to enjoy it as a little break in the day. My husband hates it. My son and daughter are evenly split on it (son loves it, and daughter can't stand it). My niece and nephew take a little nap during it and are fully recharged for more fun when it's over.

I think the Carousel is very interesting because I remember reading about a lot of those time periods in school and like seeing the family's home through the years. I also love the idea of being in a revolving theater, which is still amazing to me.

I kind of know the Carousel's days are numbered so I go on it every year I am there because within the next few years I bet it will be gone (as soon as Tomorrowland gets a serious overhaul and TDO invests funds to replace it).

We never do water parks or disney quest. We have done them before we had kids.

Typhoon Lagoon is a highlight of our trips down to WDW. I don't care for Blizzard Beach though. The theming is odd to me because I don't want to see snow or think about cold while on a vacation to Florida.

Typhoon Lagoon is so much fun though. I love to just enjoy the wave pool and to float around the lazy river. It's such a treat for me. My husband goes with my son and daughter and my niece and nephew on all the slides, which I am not a big fan of. I like the feeling of being at TL and thinking that a big storm just passed through and we're enjoying all the water that's rushing back and receding. It's a great theme and something I treasure doing every trip.

I can totally agree with this! I definitely think we'll go on it on this next trip, even just to escape the heat and let the kids rest up for a bit....haha

I like almost everything at WDW but I must mentioned one that hasn't been mentioned...
It's tough to be a bug. I don't like being attacked in the dark, poked in the butt, or stunk at. It feels like a trigger for all kinds of anxiety and I am pretty calm.

(Come to think of it, as a rule I do not like the attractions that shoot stinky smells me - Bug, Imagination, Stitch.)

I like how you put this. Never thought of it that way before..the being poked in the dark. I don't like the stinky smells aimed at me either. If I wanted that, I'd go to Taco Bell not WDW.

Okay, sgt....there's a story behind this, and I would kind of like to hear it.

What dish did you have? What time did you eat? DETAILS!

Hollywood and Vine is a buffet..we ate there a few years ago..it. wasn't overly crowded it was the food and the mess...the buffet lines were extreamly dirty food everywhere..no real effort to keep it clean...

The Food if that's what you call it was horrid...looked and tasted.like school cafeteria food..I think the bread was rather edible..but I couldn't begin to tell you just how putrid the food.was...

Caveat: breakfast buffets I'll eat at Disney all day long..
Lunch dinner ..I'd do the German one in epcot again ...1900 park fare for dinner I'd do it kids to see the evil step sisters ..they are great but the food was nothing to write home about

Hollywood and Vine..NEVER again
