DHS MuppetVision 3-D's Future: Potential Disney Park Venues and Vision Pro Immersive Experience

Think of how the Carosuel of Progress getting demolished would feel to many Disney fans.
That is what this was to a lot of Jim Henson/Muppet fans.
Which is funny, I would be ok now with the 94 partying because ultimately it is not the one Walt worked on and it being there still as it is without updated is ironically the opposite of honoring it.

I am a big fan of CoP, a must do for us every trip and whole family can quote it, etc

But know it is not long for it's theme park life - heck, surprised it has lasted as long as it has

I would love to see it moved to somewhere that is more of a museum and appreciated for its historical context. Would love that for a lot of the originals (Tiki Room, etc) and would also love that for Muppet*Vision due to its historical context

Ask the DL guests of the 70s

It’s great they had a poorly-voiced “Kermit and Friends WILL RETURN to another attraction” posted yesterday, but did Disney give follow up to this- (the core point of this thread):

"As we move forward with these changes, we are having creative conversations and exploring ways to preserve the film and other parts of the experience for fans to enjoy in the future."

Are they still having “creative conversations” over this? They’ve had almost a year - no mention of the future of this attraction, in physical or virtual/digital form?
Josh thinks about it daily, right after his daily affordability thought. I’m sure things will move forward soon. Very soon. They wouldn’t say something just to placate fans… right? :cautious:

I'm fully convinced it's only a matter of time before we get the announcement that one's leaving.

It's not generating lightning lanes, not an IP, and they clearly don't care about honoring great people's legacy. John is doomed.
I think that since CoP can maintain that it's the only attraction in Walt Disney World that was personally worked on by Walt Disney, it's safe, for the time being at least. The company isn't that flippant about their history.

True. I think in my ideal scenario, they'd just restore the original ending and leave it as a museum piece. I have a lot of fondness for the future of the 1990s, but it's just an awkward jump now from the 40s to the 2000s.

New Years eve somehow felt poetically fitting

Raised on the "original" WDW version though. My family knew Now is the time long before we know Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow. That is what most of Floridians who went knew.

The first time I visited MK with my mom (circa 2015), and we went on CoP, the first thing she said afterwards was "They changed the song!". I quite like that song and version of the attraction! But I digress, this is the MV3D thread.

I am friendly with a ‘friend’ of Sweetums.
He is a joy to see in action, and nobody souses those penguins with water better then him!

Sweetums will be missed.
Not only by us fans, but also by those who helped bring him to the show.

That has to be a wild job, as Sweetums has like, what, 4 minutes worth of performance every hour? What do they do between appearances?

Friends of Sweetums do more then just hang out with him all day.

They also are involved in other roles, in other locations, hanging out with other ‘friends’.

And Sweetums has several friends, like all friendly characters do.
😉

Speaking of friends….here is one of his faves!

Just move the Muppets Show to the Villains show theater in 3/4 years. The tone of the show will be, the Muppets have perfected their 3D technology in the lab and want a new theater to showcase what they have learned. This new Muppets Mayhem: 4D will show a new audience what they gave learned but of course, their may still be some 'minor flaws'. New effects will include rumble seats, smells, ice/heat effects and large rotating sets and screen. Projection mapping will be used to extend the effects along with some live actors. The new show will feature new and returning characters and an segment that pays tribute the Great Movie Ride. A marketing campaign will announce that the Muppets are taking their new technology on the road and will be hosting shows at DHS in the Summer of 2027.

Some of those ideas sound great.

But most people here wouldn't even want that. They want the original.

If that sad day ever does come and Disney decides to remove the COP I would love to see it donated to the Queens museum. It’s located at the site of the NYC Worlds Fair where it debuted in 1964. However, I’m afraid the upkeep cost would be very expensive for any museum to maintain properly.
