VHS copies of old movies still sell so do lazer discs. some retro stores make good living selling those but my point is whether its vhs, lazer disc, dvd/ blu ray , 4k blu ray physical media of movies has and will alwasy exist no matter the format. people want to own them.
And what data do you have to backup your assertion that "people" want to own them in the mass quantities that makes it worth it for media companies to continue this distribution model long term?

Also secondary markets of collectors buying VHS and LaserDiscs created 30 years ago don't count. This is about new releases of physical media going forward. When was the last time a movie was released on VHS or LaserDisc?

i don't need to do research. i am not writing a paper.
And I don't have to provide you any further information. You haven't provided anything to backup your assertions. But yet several others have provided more than enough information to prove your claims are not founded.

Games are even less reliable than movies when it comes to owning them permanently. I have PS2 games that are worthless because my PS2 is long dead, and it would be a hassle to track down a system. In contrast, the latest XBox as an example can play digital games from previous systems, so I actually feel more comfortable owning digital games.
I would agree until recently, except the current generation of games uses discs as access to download and verify ownership.

Absolutely. I just don’t trust them enough for them to make those decisions based on a whim and an internet connection.
There will always be individuals such as yourself that would prefer physical over digital with their media. However as we all know industries don't make decisions based on an individual. So the long term trend does appear to be digital.

i only challenged your claim that there are back cata;pgie not that are not on physical media and i called your bluff on that and asked for an example which you provided that i disproved proving my point.

Its not a bluff. Fight Club has not been released on 4k, and based on reports isn't going to be released on 4k now that Disney is stopping 4k releases of older content.

I doesn't matter if they are down or up. They are not going away ever.
Ah, so you can dish it out but can't take it I see. ;)

And actually it does matter, because that is how businesses like Disney make decisions.

But its ok my friend. I'm not here to break down your door and take your discs.

In reality I think you're actually partially right. Just like there is a collectors market for vinyl, VHS, and other forms of outdated media. I believe there will be one for Blu-Ray and 4k UHD here very soon. So yes in that sense it'll never go away, as there will always be collectors. But new releases, over time that will diminish in favor of all digital media.
