Mulan coming to Disney+

people would rather own a disc and have peace of mind they will never lose the movie. it wont ever go away.

Some people prefer physical media, some people prefer digital. I don't know what the divide actually is but digital is getting more and more popular. Look at the number of people subscribing to Netflix or Disney+. The quality of digital is at the point where the average consumer is fine with streaming. I find it so much more convenient than loading discs into a player.

The threat of losing a movie is overstated. If one buys something on iTunes, there's no indication it will be taken away. It hasn't happened. Even in cases where certain episodes of a TV show have been pulled (i.e. 30 Rock), if you bought them before the change, they remain in your library.

I can't remember the last time I bought a CD, and I'm mostly digital with movies now as well.

There are more titles on physical media than on streaming services easily. tell me what titles are not on physical media.
Just look at all the back catalog of old films not getting Blu-Ray or 4k UHD releases, and likely never will. There is another thread discussing this very thing in relation to the Disney Vault and now Fox films.

Here is the difference. I HAVE netflix because there are shows I want to stream but make no mistake and there maybe movies i own on there that i may watch but if that show or movie gets removed i know i still own it. so i will never lose it. just because more people are signing up for streaming doesn't mean people dont want to buy or own movies.

Yep.

I bought The Last of Us: Part 2 on digital, because I was impatient, but when the remaster comes out for the PS5 sometime next year, I’ll definitely be getting a physical copy.

Games are even less reliable than movies when it comes to owning them permanently. I have PS2 games that are worthless because my PS2 is long dead, and it would be a hassle to track down a system. In contrast, the latest XBox as an example can play digital games from previous systems, so I actually feel more comfortable owning digital games.

Not the same thing. Apples and organges. Stop it.
I'd say with your complaint, it's not different. A big reason I go out to eat is the experience of going to the restaurant. Being waited on, the atmosphere... all things you don't get at home but you pay the same for. You said 30 was too much because you are loosing that experience so you expect to pay less. And on top of that get something else for free. So what you are asking for is not that different. But we'll agree to disagree.

You are welcome to your personal preference of physical media, but the trends are pretty clear (see below). Physical media may always be around, but the overall preference is shifting.

I'm less worried about permanent ownership than I used to be anyway. I owned movies on VHS that are now in a landfill somewhere. I own DVDs that don't cut it anymore. My blu-rays will be obsolete one day as well.

Digital worked out better for me in that iTunes has upgraded much of my library from HD to 4K for free. It makes me wish I'd bought more digital movies instead of physical.

Also, with the internet, nothing is truly lost. Odds are, if I lose something be it physical or digital, I'll be able to find a copy online. Thanks to the internet one can watch the original Star Wars in 4K. One can watch Song of the South if one wants.

The Die Hard series, that is one I believe but could be wrong on that, from Fox. I'm not going to sit here and name off films for you. All the information is in that link I posted.
Die Hard series has been on blu ray and i believer are already on 4k. plus its been on dvd forever now so a copy is easy to find. what else you got?

Like I said I could be wrong on that, I just picked an old Fox title out of the air. However I'm not going to sit and name anymore titles for you. Do you own research if you want to know. Point is its happening like it or not.

I am not doing any research. You brought up a point and I am trying to prove you wrong by you giving me an example in which I DID prove you wrong thus making my point.

Ok, so you got me on one single film, big whoop.

Look, I honestly don't care if any studio releases a film on physical media ever again. I think the last time I actually purchased a physical piece of media was back in 2010. Its important to you, so I was trying to provide you the information. You don't want to do the research yourself that is fine, but I'm not going to hand it to you. Believe it, don't believe it, I don't care. Over time we'll see what happens.

Tell that to VHS and laserdiscs, warehouse music, tower records, sam goody, never say never my friend. Technology has a funny way of changing the habits of people.
VHS copies of old movies still sell so do lazer discs. some retro stores make good living selling those but my point is whether its vhs, lazer disc, dvd/ blu ray , 4k blu ray physical media of movies has and will alwasy exist no matter the format. people want to own them.
