MSEP Returns

Paint the Night may have some issues after running nightly for 15 months, but it's got nothing on the 44 year-old parade that's been running nightly for the last 6 years

I'm just excited for that moment when DL operations discovers that MK drives a maintenance tractor out to the hub each night to have it ready, "just in case" one of the MSEP floats breaks down during the performance.

And DL thought that Paint the Night needed maintenance. Ha!

Main Street Electrical parade is a nice parade and I thought it was so much better than Spectromagic. Then I saw Paint the Night and I was blown away by the floats and their design and the song is such a nice blend of the old MSEP melodies and new melodies. I fell in love with that parade, and I rock out that song almost daily. When I went back to WDW a few months later I was so disappointed in MSEP, it is time for it to be retired. I am sometimes reluctant for updates and getting rid of old attractions (heck I wore my Maelstrom shirt on the Frozen ride as a silent protest), but sometimes the old just needs to go (in this case glow) away.

My hope is that DL will keep Paint the Night after this run of the MSEP and WDW will get an entirely new night parade that will be at least equal in quality and fun of Paint the Night. But that is just my humble opinion.

I think the song with Paint The Night is really what makes the parade such a good parade.

Timing is so weird on this one... Bringing back MSEP immediately after you put its slick, next-gen 21st century update on pause? Do they have any idea how underwhelming it is going to look when audiences have been enjoying Paint the Night for the past year?

I love MSEP. I grew up with it at WDW. But last time I saw it at DCA before it got shipped back to WDW in '09 or whenever that was -- aside from the nostalgia factor which lasted all of 4 minutes -- I thought it was a total snoozefest. And that's without having PTN to compare it against.

I'm old, I miss the 20th century, I don't like the newfangled stuff the kids do now, and I'm a lifelong Disneyland fan.

But this news has bummed me out. The MSEP is dumb. And hokey. It's a hokey and dumb parade that should have stayed dead when it was originally killed off in 1996.

Someone in TDA is taking some very bad advice, and/or doesn't know their audience very well.

I actually love the MSEP, SpectroMagic! (which I saw once) and PTN. If the plan was to retire the parade after this year at WDW, this is purely being done for 2 reasons IMO. 1) Give some type of nighttime parade to DL while PTN is being refurbished (if that's true) and 2) Typical Disney money grab. I gotta believe that Disney knows the park will be packed to say goodbye and folks will make special trips to see it one last time. Now if they ship PTN to WDW (something Disney has denied will happen), I'd be incredibly disappointed in Disney...which seems to happen more and more lately.

And let's hope the floats don't literally fall apart when being transported across the country.

Well this is a bit of a surprise.....didn't expect this to actually happen.

As a big fan of the original MSEP, I'm happy some DL fans will get to enjoy it again in it's current incarnation.

As much as love the pre-makeover version(s), I'm not a big fan of the current incarnation.
The biggest issue I have with it is the lame 'reboot' of the original Parade score.
That, and the un-nessesary ( in my opinion ) 'pixie dusted' additions made to the already fine floats.

The original music was fantastic and fun...and cleverly done...and done with REAL 70s era synths.
It still sounds great today to my ears.
The 'remake' music is not at all that appealing, despite the familiar melodies.
It just sounds so 'fake'....and chintzy to my ears.
It makes me cringe up a little hearing it, but I absolutely love the original music and listen to that when time allows.

Bring back the original score!
Yeah yeah....they probably won't, I know....parade choreography would throw a hissy fit no doubt.

That's because the music was borrowed from the Tokyo Disneyland Electrical Parade Dreamlights which is basically a modern version of MSEP which came out in 2000. It worked for Tokyo but it doesn't feel right for MSEP. At least Dreamlights has a Christmas overlay for the music and floats.

I remember back when Disneyland was promoting PTN before it debuted last summer. They used a different version of the PTN theme. This version actually did a much longer remix of the MSEP theme song unlike the finale version. Skip to 1:14 mark of the video to hear that bit.
