I think most people would go with this definition in this situation:

transitive verb

1

maintain : to keep in an existing state (as of repair, efficiency, or validity) : preserve from failure or decline
maintain machinery

So most people would not need to have someone explain what they mean when using the word.

That's what I would expect as well. Electrical components need a clean, relatively climate-controlled and not-humid environment so as to not degrade significantly (unless what I've seen throughout my life is wrong). Storing parade floats in a climate-controlled warehouse should provide that, but annual testing probably wouldn't be a bad thing to do and I'm not sure I've ever read anyone mention that in all my years here.

Even a few of MK floats aren't stored in a climate controlled warehouse, they're stored under a overhang with curtains around it.

I remember doing the keys to the kingdom tour on Spectros last day and I believe the floats where under that overhang and the MSEP Tink float was in the same area.
The SpectroMagic floats were stored outside under tarps. A recent post mentioned it:

The storage issue came about when MSEP came back and had to share space with SADCT (or whichever variant it was) and the seasonal floats, leading to SM being left tarped-over but otherwise exposed for years. And even then, the problem was more financial than logistical. There were plenty of options for the seasonal floats to be moved elsewhere until needed, but the added cost and intricacy was poo-poo'd by management.

But in all honesty, no worries, your tour was a long time ago and I can't recall most of the backstage details from my KttK tour in 2007 outside of seeing Christmas stuff in a warehouse and the water storage tank for Splash smelling like 2-week old garbage.

Hopefully this parade is a lock for d23 it would be disappointing if it was left out only to be announced later.
Honestly if it's left out it better be because they are stacked with other exciting announcements, which I don't have my hopes high for. Remember the year they had the whole Muppets panel and almost nothing came to fruition?

I wouldn't be surprised if it's left out only for it to be announced a few weeks later and everyone will wonder "Why wasn't this announced at d23?". Let's hope we don't have to worry about that.
