MSEP ending at Disneyland on Sept 1, WDW return in 2023?

By necessity the lighting tech gets upgraded over time anyway and didn’t they change that last float that used to celebrate the USA to a float that celebrates Disney IP?
They replaced it with a "It's a Small World" Mary Blair style float featuring characters from all different backgrounds. If I'm being honest, the USA float was outdated and this was a better fit anyway.

Everyone will be wrong at some point. I would never eat crow but I would offer to eat an item of the victor’s choosing from Cosmic Ray’s.

Any. Menu. Item.
Thank god Walt’s chili was buried again…
I ordered that dish exactly one time. Still can't believe they named something after Walt and completely s*** the bed on it

I’ve always found this odd as well, I worked entertainment when Spectro came back in 2001, BOTH ELP and Spectro at that time were located in the interior parade storage building. The Day parade (it was still the 25th parade) was stored under the covered outdoor portion of the building and the Holiday floats were in the back building. There was plenty of room.

Then a few years later this was deemed a better solution out behind Central Shops.

Thank you for this! I've always wondered if I had been reading false reports about the Spectro floats or not.

Seeing that just breaks my heart. :(

What do you have against celebrating 'Murica?!?!?

;)

Please, for the love of Walt, let the MSEP rest in piece(s) and, at the bare minimum, rebuild Spectromagic. Sadly, if they create a new nighttime parade, I expect it to be chock-full of recent IP with few nods to classic characters/movies. It will definitely include 'How Far I'll Let It Go The Distance", plus the awful 'Encanto' (Yeah, I said it, it's not a good movie at all but you all just keep thinking it is), a couple of Pixar nods, and probably live action character inclusions for BatB and TLM. Because Bob is creative and Josh makes the fanbois swoon and they both think they know what the guests want.

The float was built to celebrate the Centennial, no? That's far over... I also think that while yes the parks are in America, there are so many people from other cultures who come to visit, especially at WDW. I would also say that "pride" for America has dropped substantially since then, and I will not get into the political undertones of this conversation as it is not appropriate.

I would like MSEP to rest in many pieces... however, I can't see the argument that a new parade would be chock-full of IPs, as if MSEP wasn't.

Oh, I know any parade is going to be entirely full of characters. I said "modern IP", because the directive will be to pick from the last decade. Because Bob.

I'm just messing around with the centennial float. I love it but as a centennial celebration it should have gone away in 1978 or been updated to something more timeless for that part of the parade.

If things really are in the works it is a little bit odd that some on here that have commented on the subject in the past haven’t chimed in recently like @LiterallyNobody and @The Visionary Soul. Even @marni1971 didn’t say or act like he was in agreement that parade plans are moving forward, just that DL doesn’t want give WDW anything.

Might be answering my own question here but I get it that things are very different now a days with Disney being very fluid with their plans and very tight lipped, so it’s possible very few insiders know what’s going on.

Steve is typically rather conservative in his statements so if he’s saying there’s movement on this, there’s movement.

Doesn’t mean it is 100%, though. They change their minds or delay a lot.

I think it's been long enough..........Any part of TWDC shouldn't be delaying this!!

Whatever Parade we get....

It’s been waay to long for sure. And to many delays, or at least we think Disney has kept delaying a parade since the 50th.

True. I guess we need patience lol and I admit Im guilty of not having any when it comes to waiting for a nighttime parade. It’s one major thing that has meant a lot to me.

Let’s hope it’s more than a glimmer of hope.

Remember the idea of Disney announcing the Main Street Electrical Parade actually ending was a big deal compared to nowadays when it quickly became a joke?

Goodness how many times has Walt Disney World and Disneyland given the Main Street Electrical Parade the "Farewell" and "Goodbye Treatment"? If my memory is correct, the parade left and returned 4 times at Disneyland (counting DCA) and 3 times for Walt Disney World. Which equals to 7 times Disney did this for the parade.

Longtime Disneyland fans will remember how big of a deal the "Farewell Season" in 1996, not only was there a series of billboard spotted across LA and areas close to Disneyland. But they even created two commercials noticing people that its almost over. Particularly this commercial telling you that after "October 15. You'll Never Hear This Music And You'll Never This Music Again".

That's not even discussing the amount of farewell merchandise sold during that year across the park. It even gained a special VHS video for MSEP's Farewell season.

And a special televised broadcast showing it's final run on November 25, 1996 (complete with an interview from Marty Sklar).

Walt Disney World did similar treatment where it used a slower and emotional rendition of Baroque Hoedown in this commercial for MSEP's "Final Run" on April 1, 2001.

Complete with a commercial letting people know the parade is back at the Magic Kingdom a year prior (2000)

At least MSEP's second run was actually shorter compared to it's third run from 2010 till 2016.

This parade has officially became Disney's version of "The Boy Who Cried Wolf".

I know younger Disney Parks fans and users are actually wishing the parade to once again have another run at Walt Disney World. But I'm strongly against this idea. Let this old parade finally retire and live at "Disney's Retirement Home for Long Gone and Discontinued Attractions". Not even Spectromagic gained this amount of fanfare.

From the Destination D23 thread in regards to a light parade.

Not so sure they are going to want to talk about that yet.

Just still fairly early in the process I think.

Not the best of news, but expected I suppose. Good news it’s still in the process, bad news is not only do we continue to wait till… maybe the D23 expo? But also the longer they hold off announcing it the higher the chance of it being axed. :-/

From Steve’s post it does sound a bit more like something new is in development rather than MSEP or PTN. Those parades should be quick decisions. The only delay in those getting announced would be timing and Disney not wanting to announce summer 2024 plans yet.

Marketing came up with the idea - and Walt Disney Entertainment (and later the parks themselves) embraced it because it made a ton of paper revenue that could be attributed to entertainment - from people coming in droves to see something they swore would never return. Of course Disney got a little greedy and kept bringing out the reanimated corpse a few more times than they should have...

Personally, if they're going to bring back a parade that's long been dead - give MK Fantillusion. That's a plussed up version of both Spectro and MSEP, and has yet to appear stateside. Hell, just give OLC a ring, tell them to design a new parade, and send to stateside after 5 years. Fill it in with parades we have stateside/Paris that haven;t been to Orlando yet.. Never will happen though.

Ever since the mid to late 2010s, Disney currently uses MSEP as their version of "In Case of Emergency Break Glass" approach when things don't turn out well at Disneyland and to attract more positive buzz. The opening of the DL version of Star Wars Galaxy's Edge comes to mind since Disney announced the parade returning four months afterwards.
