Just wanted to mention that I caught Avatar in one of the final showings of IMAX 3D, and the theatre was still packed.

Avatar has become, officially, my favorite movie ever.:lookaroun

Actually saw Robin Hood yesterday.
It was.....ok. Kinda slow, I thought.
Perhaps they stuck too much to the historical story of RH, and didn't add enough Hollywood plot and action. I don't know....just felt a bit....slow.

Only other films on the agenda this weekend are:
-The Road, which I'm finally getting around to watching here at home.
-The Shark is Still Working, a supposedly great Jaws documentary that is showing here in Miami on Sunday.

Prince of Persia....eh...I'll pass for now.

Here are my thoughts on recent movies:

Iron Man 2: Very good, but like the first it didn't wow me. Love the Disney references though

Robin Hood: Very entertaining and I loved the grittiness of it, but I agree with Lee that it was a bit slow.

Shrek 4: A lot better than I thought it was going to be. Not as good as the first two, but MUCH better than the third.

I finally got around to see Alice in Wonderland and left the film underwhelmed.

It was visually stunning but I thought the majority of the performances were incredibly lack luster or just phoned in. Crispin Glover was probably my favorite performance in the film and it was nice seeing him in a prominent role again.

What really bothered me was the the poor quality of all the CGI characters. With such high quality work being done now (i.e. Narnia, Lord of the Rings etc) I felt with t he money sunk into this movie the animations were poor. They felt flat, weakly rendered and at some points the animation frame rates were noticably lacking.

I'm a huge Burton fan and thought he should've knocked this thing out of the park. Saddly I was mistaken.

Funny you should mention that; Mike Roddy (one of the producers, former HHN director) has been Facebooking about this for the past week or so. Glad to see at least some people know about it. :D

Turns out that Mike Roddy is a good friend of my family in Jacksonville and I'd followed some of his stuff for some time. I logged on to Facebook today to find a friend request from him - great stuff! :)

Just saw the trailer for PA2. Looks VERY creepy. (hopefully is done better than the first one)
It does look creepy...but then I thought the first one was really creepy.

Let's see....what have I seen lately...

Jonah Hex...Complete waste of a good character. They went too supernatural/comic book. There is a good film to be made with Hex, but this wasn't it.

Grown Ups....A little too long, but very funny. Bonus points for Salma Hayek in a swimsuit.;)

Kinght and Day....Eh. Wasn't terrible, but wasn't very good either.

Toy Story 3...Saw it in Imax 3d. Loved it. Saw the first 70min at a screening back in the spring. Glad to finally see the end. Just a great movie and a fitting end to the story.

A-Team...Ok. Nothing special. Typical mindless action film with a few laughs.

Get Him to the Greek...Liked it. Russel Brand cracks me up.

Splice...Odd. Good enough idea, but get's really weird near the end.

The Killer Inside Me...Very good, but not for everyone. Lots of violence against women. Read the book years ago, and the film is pretty faithful. Casey Affleck has surpassed his brother in the acting category.

True, and I will admit now that I was completely wrong when I was praising the film. After seeing it a second time and third time I realized how bored I was. I guess it all depends on the audience you see it with.
(however, I think this one can work if they avoid the major problems that plagued the first one)

I fully agree with you here. This has to be my favorite Pixar film so far. Definitely a great third movie and a great finale.

Believe it or not I actually found A-Team to be right next to Iron Man 2 in terms of being just a really fun film. (although the story wasn't as good)

This isn't meant as a snarky question...but you did know Jonah Hex actually IS a supernatural comic book character didn't you?

Besides that the movie was just this side of horrible. They watered down the character and series' plot and content. The film really should have been an R rated flick if done correctly...which it wasn't.

And Megan Fox is...just...awful.

Well, yeah...I know where Hex comes from.
My point was that they went the Ghost Rider route when they could/should have gone more Dark Knight.

Megan Fox...she was barely in it enough to have much effect. Looked amazing in that corset, though.

Not to create a nerd debate, but here I heartily disagree.

Not every superhero/comic book flick needs to be The Dark Knight. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the Nolan Batman movies, but I don't want to see that become the trend...making comic book movies seem as real and plausible in the real world as possible.

They don't have to take every franchise and make them grim and gritty. It works for Batman because of the mythos behind the character. There are more supernatual elements to the world of Gotham but Nolan has stated he wants to stay away from those due to his realistic "vision" and I can respect that. But let's not have every franchise end up that way.

Ironman is a perfect example of how you can remain dedicated to the source material and still produce a superb film. It's all about how much effort you place on story, script and the actors you bring on board.

Hex was a horrible movie. No debate there. But it has less to do with the material and more to do with the fact it had a pathetic cast, script and direction.

Ok...nerd rant over.

Saw Sorcerer's Aprentice last night. I thought it was a fun popcorn flick. I liked Cage and especially Alfred Molina as the villain. The SFX and fight scenes were really cool as well.

But my main complaint was the apprentice kid, I hated him! He was so annoying and not funny.

I also wish that Chinese sorcerer witht he claws had more screen time. He was easily the coolest character and he suffers Boba Fett syndrome!

Just got back from Inception, and I thought it was alright but I honestly think it was way overhyped.

I thought it was really confusing, hard to follow, overly long, and the Matrix style effects were pretty much all spoiled in the previews. But it did have some good acting and the SFX sequences while spoiled in the previews were reallly cool.
