Monorail Expansion in 2007?

I think EPCOT->Studios would be the last route built in this hypothetical scenario because of its proximity. You can walk from the International Gateway in EPCOT, thru the Boardwalk, and across to the Studios in 5 minutes.

I think the buses will remain the main form of Disney transportation for quite a few years. They may upgrade to better models as the years go by, but i think its logistically and economically the best for of transportation given the way WDW is setup.

I think that as all rumours, the monorail expansion only will happen if Disney consider is necessary. Right now the WDW transportation system is functional, why change it?

The only truth here is NOBODY has an answer for sure!

But, believe me, I'm the first who'll love to see that happen someday!

Can engineer's out there explain why monorail is so massively expensive?

Unless going over vast areas of water I can't understand why it is so expensive for what, to a lay-man like me, appears like some concrete pillars whacked into the ground with some more concrete connecting the pillars with an electric train on top!

Also why was it possible to build the monorail way back when it was, and also extended it when Epcot was opened but now in 2003 when everyone is meant to be richer than ever is it not financially viable to do these things, it's not like a new technology or anything!

One thing that cost a fortune is pile driving that most people don't even know is there. Even column along the line probably has a good pile base underneath. Do you even know what it cost to drive a pile? The pile driver (the operator) get paid like $35 bucks and hour and the oiler who oils the rig if it breaks down makes like $45 bucks an hour. ( I find it sometimes a little sad that the unioner make more money than the designers) Now multiple that by the engineering design work and crew and equipment and drill rigs etc etc etc. It would cost a small fortune to expand the monorail.

I agree on that. Why would Disney expand the monorail while the buses are still very functional. They could better invest the money in ride development and construction, and start thinking of monorail expansion once it becomes necessary.

Well... it's not just money... but it's also LOGISTICS. A fixed guideway system will NOT work out for Walt Disney World as it stands. It was expanded for Epcot because at the time, that's all there was. Epcot, and the MK area. Now you've got things all spread out, with no possible way to efficiently connect them. You need a flexible transit system, and currently, that can be done quite well with Buses.

Also... yes, it is new technology. You'd be amazed at the advancements.

Jay's Monorail-> his house expansion update

They just began driving in the pillars at the bottom of my street, the end is in sight. Characters special events is flying up all the female face characters(even Cruella!?) and then we'll be taking the monorail back down together.

When you wish upon a star, all the hot face characters aren't all that far......

Yeah, but it's kinda fun watching Tyler turn gray and old each time this topic is revisited. Make sure the thick pad and desk are in a rubber room....:hammer:

Monorail Expansion will never happen. Period.

However, I do have a monorail related question. I was talking to a cast member once and he said something rather interesting. According to him, the large off-color sections on the sides of the swan and dolphin that are painted teel were painted that color in order to designate areas that the monorail was supposed to travel through. Is this true? Were the Swan and Dolphin supposed to be connected to the monorail?

Just wondering...

This is an old wives tale... Completely not true.

You all should know better!!!

The words "NEVER" and "PERIOD" are not part of the Disney Imagineering way of doing things. They are too "final".

Anything MAY happen! If they can DREAM it - they can DO it!!!

It may not be in YOUR lifetime....but it MAY happen!

Who would have thought Project Jiminy (I mean Gemini) would ever happen, sure it may not be the hole kit-n-kaboodle, but NEVER is a strong word, especially for Disney...

Have you tried reading that thread I posted? It just doesn't seem right for Disney to do it, from what Tyler explained.

Hey MKCUSTODIAL!
Yep. I read it the first time too. Thanks for posting it again for those who may have missed it.

With all due respect to both You and others here, the point of my post was to warn about the words people chose when expressing an opinion in general.

The word "NEVER" kind of paints the person into a corner. It's a problem all over message boards and talk shows. It's used for effect - to add an aura of some sort of final authority on the issue. It's easy to do when posting anonymously.

Unless you're Michael Eisner, I don't really think the word "NEVER" could be used to describe any WDW future plans seriously. Even then..."never" would only mean "while I'm in charge".

After all, lots of people said DisneyLand would "never" be built.
Don't they look foolish now?

That's all!
Thanks

:)

I personally agree that the busses are a great from of transportation. I love talking to the drivers and hearing some of the rumors they can cook up. The monorail, as much as I would love to see expaned, is just too much money, a monorail pilot told me that each train costs about 17-27 million bucks and each section of track costs about a million. Someone correct me if I am wrong.
