Comcast has not given them a blank check you know

What will all those visitors do when they come to Universal Orlando? Burke told the analysts that Universal has increased its capital spending on theme parks to about $500 million a year, and that he expects that to be the company's new normal for annual capital spending. He said that the company's goal is to open a new attraction every year at both Universal Orlando and Universal Studios Hollywood.

And you all expect them to open up e ticket attractions every year don't you?

One Little Spark...
Disney springs, avatarland, rumors of Star Wars lands, etc.

Uni will build then Disney will build and then rinse and repeat
Disney Springs is at least five years late. Once the decision was made to close down the nightclubs, it should have been fast tracked and construction started immediately after the last club closed down. Instead, that area has laid largely dormant for the past half decade. Unacceptable.

Avatarland is gonna happen...though it remains to be seen if it will be the same scope and scale revealed to date. Budget overruns and other factors could easily pare that land down. Don't think they'd do it? These are the same people who thought that Chester and Hester's was a good idea, while also spending millions on a wand and a big hat that adds nothing but a pin trading location (a store)...money that could and should have been funneled into creating a better experience elsewhere in the parks. Though I am not fond of James Cameron...he may be the saving grace for that expansion as he has a vested interest in making sure his IP is presented well...

All that being said, how long did it take. Uni to build out the Harry Potter expansion? How long has NFE taken? Disney just doesn't seem to have any sense of urgency in these matters, but watch how fast they can toss up new DVC rooms!

Star Wars lands are still rumors...we shall see. In any case, HS is in dire straights, and the backlot tour is filthy and falling apart. They could easily have gone gusto and dropped in Cars Land or expanded Pixar Place with rides that have already been in development (doors coaster?). Right now, SW land is killing any chance of either happening, and they are gonna wait, I suspect, to see how the new movies fare. Disney should have been doing all of the above...not twiddling it's thumbs.

No, I don't. I expect them, and they have indicated both with their announcements and behaviors, to spend a portion of that money plus sing and improving current attractions as well. Jurrasic Park overhauls have already leaked out, for example.

I agree...but let's all wait and see instead of thinking we know what's gonna happen. I predict the Uni steam will calm in a few years when disneys ramps back up and then it'll go back to Uni etc etc

Truth be told...they all benefit from each other

This is the same company that, 25 years ago, when they learned of Universals plans to build in Orlando, fast tracked an entire theme park / hotel complex to beat them to the punch.

There is no reason they should have to wait outside of the fact (as has been pointed out) they don't want to compete at that level. Plastic Bands, a new reservation system and an app/website that barely functions, all while increasing prices to pay for this technological tomfoolery and simultaneously cheapening the park experience with snotty clone rides whilst ignoring glaring maintenance issues on others, and also lowering the quality of food and service standards, as well as general facility maintenance standards.

Yeah, that's not a winning strategy at all, in my book.

Yet they are (winning, by a huge margin) but again, this isn't a major competition. There are enough vacationers to keep them open and making tons of money. Each benefit from one another....and Disney thanks Uni for selling marvel merchandise for sure haha

Not quite a blank cheque but still:
Steve Burke, President of NBC|Universal and former President of Disneyland Paris, spoke to investors on the 11th of the month, and gave an overview of the current state and future plans of the Universal Parks and Resorts business. During the conference call Burke confirmed that, for the foreseeable future, Orlando AND Hollywood would be receiving a new attraction EVERY year, and that NBC|Universal will continue to invest around $500 Million a YEAR into both resorts.

$500million buys a lot for Universal, Disney not so much...
