God help the balance if I start on Epcot.

I have this fantasy (I am not making this up) where an oil sheik I befriended in the past gives me 25 billion in his will to spend on WDW. I have to spend it all in 15 years. Now, in my fantasy, I wind up spending waaaay more money on EPCOT than any other area of WDW. I should note that in my fantasy I spend a lot of time considering what a good salary to pay myself would be. I always settle on $312,000/year for the first year and I index it to inflation.

I had the same dream, but I gave my 25 billion to Meg Crofton as a thank you for service reward.

Ok. Lets see...

Orlando (and surrounding offerings within a few hours drive) vs Anaheim (and surrounding offerings within a few hours drive)

Seaworld (yep, both places)

Universal (yep, though smaller and no Islands of Adventure in California, it does offer a cool backlot tour, something you can't get in Orlando at all anymore)

Knotts Berry Farm (nope, not in Florida)

Busch Gardens Tampa (nope, not in California)

Legoland (both places, significantly better in California, but the Florida Park is growing)

Beach (significantly better in California)

Weather (significantly better in California)

Sports (significantly better in California)

Shows and entertainment (significantly better in California)

Historical sites (significantly better in California)

The list goes on. There are many reasons to go to the Orlando area, but I wouldn't go so far as to say there is "more to do there" than the area surrounding Disneyland...and, it's highly debatable if there's even more to do at Disneyworld as a result.
Largely agreed, but Florida has better beaches. The water in CA is generally cold. Unless you have a wetsuit I'd take the gulf over CA any day.

One thing you left off the list: better beer. CA has some fine local breweries. Stone in Carslbad (right by Legoland) is one of the best. FL has a few good brews, but CA is better.

That is an excuse, not a reason. And if you have to make excuses to support your argument, then you are on the wrong side of the argument.

no excuse...fact
you have to compare apples to apples
1971 was a WAY different time

there are lots of things I could compare to the "good 'ol days" and think they were better....whether they really were or not would always be debatable by people of today

That's all he has been doing the whole time.

  • It's ok they over charge -- that's what businesses are supposed to do.
  • It's ok they haven't added anything worthwhile, they are busy painting buses (and 24 other things that add no or minimal tangible benefit to the customer and shouldn't and wouldn't have been noticed if they were doing anything worth noticing, but they are not).
  • It's ok that the product is deteriorating, its gotten too big to keep the standards of the past.
  • It's ok that they are raiding their corporate capital and goodwill and not reinvesting their record revenue because at the end of the day, I still enjoy visiting.
And, frankly, on the last point, he is right, and TDO is laughing all the way to the bank and the current execs will be long gone when it comes time to pay the piper.

Tricky, philosophically. An excuse is a fact. Thus, whether or not something is an excuse depends on how the fact is used. For example, it may be a fact that you beat me in the 100 meter dash because I was all distracted by the lady in the third row. However, if I told everyone that the woman wearing a bikini top in third row was the reason I lost, they would view me as making an excuse.

New door locks and wait time signs? Are you frickin' serious? Because that list is laughable. "**** Universal and their 3 E-Tickets in less than a year we got new wait time signs!!!!! Honey, book the flight right now!"

LOL and again... I called it. How many others will do the same...c'mon you know you want to :)

God bless universal and their 3 E-Tickets... they are finally improving

I can't comment on the other stuff, but Disney has already made tens of millions of dollars on MagicBand accessories alone... I'm confident that once the bugs are worked out of the system, it will generate more money.

Wait. Tens of millions would imply at least 20 million dollars. The higher cost magic band accessories are $15.95. Are you saying they have sold at least 1.25 million units of magic band accessories?

PS. Not really doubting you, just making sure I read this correctly.

Orlando is a city
California is a STATE
and Tokyo is a little out of our reach

you need to compare apples to apples 'easter man :) jk

It was YOU who referred to Fla (a state last time i checked) in your post. But congratulations for knowing that California is a state and Orlando is a city.

I know that Disney Daddies, like mommy Bloggers, have a hard time with the idea that there is more to leisure travel than WDW

if you are referring to me and what I've "been doing the whole time" and what I believe... you are WAAAAAAY off my friend.

WDW has plenty of faults and things they need to improve on...

All the more easier to obtain your eventual martyrdom though. So there's an upside after all....

At Uni you don't need busses.
That's true, but you also don't get the amazing spaces one gets at WDW. Sure, there are many differences between the Orlando parks, some very good for WDW, some very good for Comcast. However, I don't think Uni can compete with the escapism that at least I get when I'm staying at WDW. I don't just look at the 4 parks as all there is. Nor do I look at the resort I may be staying in alone, though last trip is was in exceptional shape and I felt I was treated very well. But the space in between as well was great and I don't see me getting this as I head closer into Orlando at Universal.

Universal is building because they HAVE to. The second they stop, they will be forgotten.

Again.

Another thing of note is the gang banger groups you get at Universal, especially at Universal City Walk. Give me MM+ any day over a glock in the face.

Between 2010 and 2011 (when Harry Potter opened) Islands of Adventure added 1.7 Million visitors. Between 2011 and 2012 they held on to that increase and added about another 300,000 visitors without having built anything new.
