I think the last time they played each other in the playoffs was the 2006 ALCS, where I think Detroit went 2-0 at home and 2-0 in Oakland for a sweep.

Nice turnaround by the Orioles & Cardnials yesterday, bringing their series' to a tie.
Tigers & Reds both have a chance to sweep tonight. Reds/Giants game starting now.
Which team between Detroit & Cincinnati has a better chance of sweeping their series tonight & moving on to the LCS? Either, both, none?

If I were Girardi, I'd pull A-Rod from the lineup completely. Perhaps replacing him with someone like, I dunno, Raul Ibanez? Maybe Ibanez has some sort of magic up his sleeve which may help the Yankees come back & defeat the Orioles in this game. Maybe Ibanez could perform the same magic not once, but twice...but that would just be silly.
Joking aside, what an amazing night for Raul. You know Girardi is patting himself on the back for making the call to pull A-Rod from the lineup. Best decision of the series so far for New York. Not that I'm pulling for the Yankees, but it certainly was nice to see a postseason game end in such dramatic fashion.
Out west...the Oakland A's upset the Tigers and force a game 5. It was only yesterday we were predicting which team between the Tigers & Reds would wrap up their series with a sweep. Now, both face a deciding game 5 on Thursday and could possibly go home with this postseason's biggest flop.
Who do you predict will end their season on 10/11/12 ?

Amazing how random everything seems in the playoffs. Braves win 23 regular season games in a row started by Medlen, and can't win one in the playoffs. O's win 16 straight regular season extra-inning games and then lose one in the playoffs. Jim Johnson was the Orioles' MVP all season but is killing them in the playoffs. The key hits mostly seem to come from lower-paid guys like Ibanez and Tyler Moore instead of from the stars.
That's why Bob Costas and so many of these other experts are off base in obsessing about how the Nationals hurt themselves by shutting down Stephen Strasburg. That kind of thinking ignores the randomness in these short playoff series, compared to the 162-game regular season. Suppose Jim Johnson had gotten injured last week and missed the post-season. The experts would have blabbed about how much that would have hurt the Orioles' chances. But it turns out they'd have been up 2-1 or even swept the Yanks 3-0 without him.

That was an incredible turnaround for San Fran. Granted, I wanted to see the Reds do good this year (I'm a Dusty Baker fan). But the Giants just look too good on paper. They showed it during the 2nd half of regular season, and they showed it during the comeback 3 games in the NLDS. The problem with San Fran this year is they have not been living up to their potential many times. Yet they came through when it counted, and have given fans the best come-from-behind upset in the playoffs since the 2004 Boston Red Sox (ALCS). On top of that...they did it entirely on the road.
So easy...a caveman can do it!!! Washington's Jayson Werth hits a solo walk-off home run in the bottom of the 9th to defeat St. Louis 2-1 and force a game 5 tomorrow!
I wonder if this has ever happened before in any postseason series (?)

Have had trouble all year hitting at home and step-up big on the road - go figure.
Tuesday's game was a throwback to the 2010 season of "touchier" - today's game wasn't much better.
That at bat by Bruce in the ninth ...... couldn't watch - couldn't stop watching.
On to the League Playoffs. Oh! thanks Posey for that granny and fist full of fantasy points!!!!

Good call on the Giants. And I agree it will be tough for the A's to keep their miracle season going, needing to beat the world's best pitcher the last 2-3 years to move on.

I don't know if the visiting team has won every game before. But I heard about a couple of "firsts" from the guys on MLB Network. About 5 or 6 teams have come back from 0-2 to win a 5-game series. But the Giants were the first to do it on the road. And this is the first time all 4 series went the full 5 games.
