What an interesting finish. I was quite certain Boston would at least *attempt* to spoil a Yankee division title...I was quite wrong. Bobby Valentine even had the nerve to say the season wasn't "that bad". Allrighty then...

Kudos to the LA Dodgers for keeping pace with the Cardinals 'til almost the end. For a minute there, I thought we were going to see a one-game playoff to determine which team makes it to the wild card one-game playoff. Odd, but would've been fun though. The Cards/Braves matchup on Fri should be interesting. Sweet justice for Atlanta, or more pain inflicted by St. Louis?

Oakland jumping over the Rangers to win the AL West on closing day of regular season!

Though there is some controversy over whether or not Josh Hamilton of the Rangers dropped that fly ball on purpose. I'm not familiar with 100% of the story, but something about him being unhappy with a contract, and how he ran (jogged) slowly to "catch" the ball...?

Atl is 5-1 aginst StL this year. The Braves are playing at home and have won their last 23 games started by today's pitcher, Medlen. The Cards' starter Kyle Lohse is 0-4 in his post-season career. But like the Cards' former pitcher Joaquin Andujar used to say, "yaneverknow".

Yep. I like the odds. But in any given game stuff can go wrong.

And we're off! First pitch thrown in Atl...2012 Postseason officially under way. :D

What are everyone's picks for today's two wild card games? I'm picking Atl over Stl, and Tex over Bal.

Chipper's throwing error just might have cost his team the game & the season. Not used to seeing Medlen on the losing side.
The game is still young though.

Those are both sensible picks given their head to head records in the regular season and who is pitching, and home field advantage.

Another Braves blunder as Simmons runs on wrong side of the baseline toward 1st. Could've been a 4-3 Atl lead right now, but instead, 3-2 Cards.

Medlen pulled from the game while losing 4-2. :(
Why can't Atlanta just pretend this is a regular season game, and not the playoffs? The team does much better when it isn't on the big stage. (Same for the Falcons in the NFL).

Still time for a comeback...

*Edit* Bad throw from Simmons allows Cards to score a 5th run. 5-2 St. Louis.
This is so unlike the Braves during regular season. What's happening?

They are in their true post-season form! For the last half of the season Medlin has been refered to as "Meddog", in reference to Greg "Maddog" Maddox (guess many didn't pay attention to Greg Maddox's post season record). And the Braves had won the last 22 of Medlin's starts!!

For some reason teams play terrible defensively against the Cards in the playoffs. Remember the NLCS against the Brewers last year, and all the errors by the Tigers' pitchers in the 2006 WS.

I'm surprised the Cards' manager pinch-ran for their post-season megastar David Freese. He'll look pretty stupid if the Braves come back and the Cards need a huge clutch hit from the 6th spot in the order.

Being a Braves fan I am use to this post season stress. And by "use to" I mean that it still drives me nuts when I see mistakes put a game in jeopardy.

I always think I can handle it, but I can't!! We always have a Chipper or Dominique as our hero!! We never get a Jeter, Jordan or anything similar.

And they pitched to Chipper with runners on 2nd and 3rd, 1st base open!!

What is going on??? Now a horrible call by the umpire has caused Atl fans to start throwing beer bottles & other trash onto the field. This folks, is surely a game for the history books. Lol

*Edit* Game currently on a brief delay so trash/bottles/cans can be cleaned off the field.

You would think at least one guy in the stands woulda been able to beam the idiot ump with a bottle. If you're going to start throwing stuff on the field lets make it worth it.

Didn't know the fans had it inum...at least they are fired up!! With that said, there is no excuse for it (no matter how bad the call).
