MLB Postseason 2012

MLB really lucked out with 4 great series.

Most valuable player in this round has to be Justin Verlander of the Tigers.

Most valuable manager is Joe Girardi - most managers wouldn't have the courage to bench the game's highest paid player. But without that move the Yankees wouldn't have won the series.

Best comeback in this series is the Giants winning 3 straight against the Reds in Cincinnati.

Strangest comeback was the Cards in the 9th last night. Their star clutch hitters Molina and Freese took some close pitches for walks and left it to their light-hitting #7 and #8 hitters to get the big hits. Then those guys actually delivered with 4 RBIs.

Derek Jeter out for remainder of postseason after injury.

"NEW YORK -- Yankees captain Derek Jeter broke his left ankle and is out for the rest of the postseason.
Three innings after Raul Ibanez sent the 47,122 in Yankee Stadium into a frenzy with a tying two-run homer, the durable New York shortstop silenced the crowd when he went down and didn't get up after making a diving stop on Jhonny Peralta's grounder in the 12th inning.
From delirium to dread in a flash.
Jeter dived to his left for the sharp grounder and winced in pain as he flipped the ball toward second base. He then rolled onto his stomach, and a collective gasp was heard when he stayed down.
Jeter remained on his side, rolling slightly, as trainer Steve Donahue and manager Joe Girardi checked him out. He was helped up, and he put an arm around Girardi and Donahue. They coaxed him off the field with Jeter not moving his left leg as chants of "Derek Jeter!" rang out.
"You can see the disappointment in his face," Girardi said after the Yankees' 6-4 loss.
Girardi said the injury won't jeopardize Jeter's career. But the recovery will be about three months.
If the Yankees are going to go deep in the postseason they will have to do it without their durable star for the first time in 16 years.
The Yankees will activate Eduardo Nunez before Game 2 of the series on Sunday."

As much as I root against the Yankees, nobody wants to see this, especially a player who means as much to the game of baseball as Derek Jeter. Luckily this will not be career-threatening, and he should be ready by the start of next season.

Agree. I will never root for the Yankees, but Jeter is good people. The game needs more players like him. Hope to see him back at 100% next season.

Yankees cannot hit with men on. Had so many chances last night and again tonight and they couldn't do it...well with Verlander pitching game 3, should I root for the Giants or Cardinals now?

i'd love to see a Cards-Tigers rematch. Tigers beat them in '68 and Cards beat them in '06, when Verlander was Rookie of the Year but went 0-2 in the World Series. I think he'd do a lot better this time.

The Tigers received a bit of good fortune last night due to more *horrible* umpire calls, especially the infamous tag at 2nd base which was obvious the Detroit runner was out. However, since the Yankees' bats were so cold and they couldn't score a run, they cannot claim the bad calls cost them the game. Had the umpires made the right call, the Tigers still would have won 1-0 rather than 3-0.
Regardless, these games are too important, and these calls could be really costly. There needs to be more instant replay in the works during these crucial matchups.

I agree, and therefore, as a RedSox fan, I say we just don't count this season. period.

Red Sox. Red Sox? Hmmm...let me see..
*flips through list of 2012 playoff teams*
Sorry, I am not seeing any mention of these Red Sox you speak of.

Let me try something else...
*searches lists of 2012 teams with a winning record*
Still nothing??

Okay, one more attempt...
*looks up teams in baseball that did not COMPLETELY tank this year*
Nothing?? I am sorry, ma'am, but I've got nothing for ya on this subject.
Considering I'm a Toronto Blue Jays fan...the above statements are completely ironic & hypocritical.

By the way folks, it's time for the 7th page stretch. Everyone please stand:

Bay, Santanna, and Pelfrey are underachieving players who are taking up most of the payroll.
I feel for ya.
Well I wouldn't say that Santana underachieved since he threw our only no-hitter, but he hasn't been the same ever since.

Verlander on the mound for Deteoit. Bring it dude!
Watching the game right now. Verlander has been on fire tonight. Looks like he picked right back up from where he left off against Oakland in the ALDS.

2-0 Tigers in the 6th inning.

Despite the Tigers' bullpen having troubles closing it out smoothly in the 9th, Detroit still goes on to win 2-1 and put the Yankees on verge of being swept tonight. Granted, the Tigers were also on the verge of sweeping Oakland during the ALDS, and that series ended up going to game #5. So anything can still happen.

Not so sure how well the AL bats will stack up against the NL. After the Giants' performance on Monday when they rolled over St. Louis in Game #2, and observing the amount of offense from both NL teams in Game #1...Det or NY might be in a bit of trouble come the World Series. These 2-1 wins aren't going to be as easy going up against the NL batting lineups. And the Tigers had better work out their bullpen/closing problems before having to face San Fran or the Cardinals.
