MLB Playoffs Pick-Em!

I see you bolded me as well :(

I guess it's safe to assume if you got 0 the first round, you are out of the contest :lookaroun

Waits next to Scott for NFL. That's what I get for picking and not thinking it through
Here's what you get for thinking:

  • I picked Minnesota because they were the best team in baseball since the month of June, going 71-33 since then.
  • I picked NY because Detroit had played so bad down the stretch, actually losing the division to Minnesota on the last day after having a double digit lead in August.
  • I picked San Diego because St. Louis was absolutely horrible the last two weeks of the season.
  • I picked the Dodgers because the Mets had lost two Game 1 starters--Pedro and El Duque, while L.A. had Penny, Lowe, and Maddux.
So, since I grew up in Michigan and cut my teeth on Tiger baseball, I shall now sit back, kick my feet up in my last place position, and wish for a Detroit-St. Louis World Series, just like way back in 1968--a magical year for the Tigers.

I just glanced at the standings for a minute and went on hunches.

you didn't pick them on how well you liked their hats or uniform colors? :)

:p

The only problem with this little game is the emotional unrest, caused by rooting for a team one moment, and rooting for their doom the next.

Now that I've cheered the Cardinals on all week, I have to turn against them and root for the Mets.

Also, I've gotten myself all attached to the Tigers from watching them put a whoopin' on the Yankees, but after they beat the A's and go to the World Series with the Mets, I have to root against them.

If that happens, it would be over by then. You'd be free to root for the Tigs. ;)

I'll switch over to usernames for the next update in the standings.
You, sir, are a gentleman and a scholar.

That was the same logic I used, except that I had a gut feeling the Mets would pull it out.

The LCS's are all Laura so far. With Detroit up 2-0 in the AL and the Mets winning Game 1 on the NL side, everything seems to be going her way. If both results hold up, the World Series will be just a formality in this contest.

Geez, what a shot by Magglio. What a season for the Tiggers.

The Detroit sweep gives Laura another 2 points and puts her very close to wrapping up this little karaoke night. The only thing that could prevent her from winning would be if the Cardinals beat the Mets in 7 games. That would give Chris (disneyman15) 3 points and allow him to pull out the win by just half a point.

Numeros:

1. Laura22 5
2. NemoRocks 2.5
2. disneyman15 2.5
4. DisneyRoxMySox 2
5. Wilt Dasney 1
5. dopey 1
5. BeachClubVillas 1
5. GenerationX 1
9. SpongeScott 0
9. Computer Magic 0

Then by that logic, the Cardinals must be lower than pond scum. :lookaroun

Sorry SpongeScott, its a regional thing that goes way back to the 1980s when Auggie Busch 'had' to get rid of Keith Hernandez because he (Keith Hernandez not Auggie Busch) wouldn't give up his cocaine habit. We have a saying here.."St.Louis is a drinking town with a baseball addiction". Anyway, that hurt us fans for a long time...same era that we lost Dougie Gilmore from the Blues for some allegations that were later proven untrue...but thats life. When Keith came back to Old Busch the first time as a NYer he was greeted with the sign of the times..."Hernandez thinks Coke is it!"...now if you were around in the 80's you'll get that!

GO CARDINALS!!!!!!!
