MKCP's February Escape

MKCP's February Escape (Photo Report)

Our adventure began on Saturday, February 25. Arriving in Orlando with four teenagers means there has to be a little Universal time to go with a big heaping helping of Walt Disney World.

We arrived in Orlando in the late late morning. Fortunately, Universal is right at the junction with the Turnpike and I-4. We were greeted by a huge traffic jam at the parking lot and inside the parks it stayed crowded all day, until and including park closing time. Everything we wanted to do was a 60 minute wait. This would have been the day to buy the express pass.

I forgot all about the long lines when I met this guy, because he and I go way back. Too bad my mom threw out all his comic books:

If only he could have used his shield to get us through the lines quicker!

Last year at Mardi Gras, we went through both parks and did everything we wanted to do in half a day. No joke. This year, we only had half a day and it was clear we weren't going to get it done, so after covering the essentials at Islands of Adventure (Hulk, SpiderMan and Dueling Dragons (ice)), we said good-bye to Islands and headed for Universal Studios and the mummy. I'm not going to complain, but if you wonder why so little was done at Islands of Adventure, the answer is breakdown after breakdown! We would have taken the Jurassic Park Raft Adventure, but after 45 minutes in line, with the load area in sight, the ride broke down and after another 20 minutes waiting for it to come back online, we had to bail because we were running out of time. Spider Man also broke down and added 15 minutes to what was already a posted 45 minute wait.

Saying goodbye:

Oh and it's weird how the crowds at Universal have gotten so bad. We were just there 3 weeks ago and both Universal Studios and Islands were ghost towns!

Very nicely done! :sohappy: I'll bet six months ago you didn't envision all this, did you?
You've got that right. I've been blessed in so many ways. The support from the people on this board is and has been a big part of those blessings.

I don't want to be negative, but the ride breakdowns contributed in large part. On the positive side, they have been heavily promoting their Mardi Gras Saturdays, and LL Cool J was playing a concert in the park at closing, so that had to be a big part of it. Right? :)

And thanks for the kind words in your other post.

I'm a sometimes customer at your husband's store.
He does work on the side if you need anything done..brakes, water pumps, tune ups...yadda yadda. It can save you a lot of money because he can get parts at his cost and then you would just pay him for the labor...just for future reference:) .

:( I'm sorry, were we rounding the corner? I try very hard never to run into people....call out and say hi next time you are around!

We all know a person can't travel 100 feet inside Walt Disney World without either running into someone or being run into. And you did nothing wrong - by the time the name tag "Bonny" registered, I did turn around to try and say hello, but you were moving along at a pretty brisk clip and I wasn't 100% certain it was you. :)

We wanted to get on the River of Time in Mexico for one last ride before it gets converted to the Three Caballeros!

What?! Did I miss something???

By the way! Awesome trip report! I really enjoyed it! (And the pics weren't bad either! )
