MK Main Gates getting new look! (Photo)

I liked the pink. All the parks have colors in my world. MK is pink, so I always liked the toll booth being pink. Blue blends too much.
I don't know why this is what comes to mind for me, but it does: that light blue reminds me of Cinderella's Castle. The old pink reminds me of when Cinderella's Castle was a big birthday cake.

I like the blue. :)

I like the blue better too. When I saw the pink I automatically get this feeling that the MK is 'girly' or something. Yeah it has a castle and princesses, but it's meant to be a park for all...not just girls, or kids, or parents with kids...but for ALL. The new color scheme is more gender neutral.

What I find really sad is that there are 5 pages dedicated to the painting of what are, essentially, toll booths. This is the kind of minutia that makes Disney fans look unstable. Couldn't the money spent on this be put to better use?

The money for this most likely comes from a completely separate pool that has no impact on attraction and show maintenance. And what about this do you dislike? Its updating/refurbishment of a very visible guest area, and given TDOs penchant to NOT perform this sort of activity, I'm pleasantly surprised by it. This is the sort of thing that needs to happen more often resort-wide.

Everything under the Florida sun really takes a beating and needs to be repainted after a while. All Disney did was pick a different color. Yes, it is a little odd that we care so much about toll booths no matter where they are, but the paint budget is not the reason WDW hasn't had a big E-ticket open since 2006.

If this had been a thread about someone spotting chipped paint at those toll booths, it'd be 20 pages by now.

How can they shut down the lanes if they need to be open 24/7??? Then again, I've always wondered how they got the current Marquee up from the way it looked back in Martin's Transportation Video in 1990 without causing major traffic issues. Anyone know how they did it???

As for the New Look.... LOVE IT!! Does this mean that new colors could be coming to the guidemaps and times guides? Maybe even new styles of Times Guides?

Cool...a question I can answer!!!

Last Monday evening, after EPCOT closed, my wife and I headed over to MK for EMH, and we drove over. Disney had several lanes on the left side closed with security cars and trucks with flashing emergency lights to alert drivers, cones placed to direct traffic to the right, that sort of thing. They were using JLG type lifts (bucket type lifts) to paint parts of the structure. It actually looked more like they were doing some touch up in problem areas than fully painting...but we actually saw them working!

Funny, I don't think of these as "Toll Booths", but rather the "Front Door" the Magic Kingdom and Magic Kingdom Resorts. Seeing and then driving through this is the moment when I feel my vacation actually starts. I'm used to the pink so it never really bothered me, but hopefully I'll get to see the new, fresh blue paint soon.

It's that attention to detail that makes Disney, well.. Disney..

Anything less is Six Flags. Sorry, but the point of the forum is discuss recent events.

I suppose your opinion may depend on if you have to shell out 15 dollars to pass them, or if you are staying on property, just wave to the attendant and fly on through.

Luckily it is more likely we are in the latter rather than the former. Certainly can see it either way.

FYI, I was just driving through the area, and the entire front of the MK Auto Plaza is now the blue color. Sorry, no pics because...well, I was driving (the opposite direction, no less).

Toll booths? Nope these are the Gates to the Maic Kingdom! :)

Hey, when they change a bathroom at WDW we have a 12 zillion page thread on it complete with photos at every stage.... lol I do not think this makes us "unstable", but rather it makes us good "Citizens" of Walt's World! :)

If we worried as much about our real communities (hometown, city or whatever) a lot of things in our own local communities would benefit to be honest.

Does anyone know if they replaced the lightbulbs in the sign yet??? When I was there from Sept 15-23 the entire week we passed by the letters a & g from the Magic Kingdom sign were not lit up. It looked very bad at night when entering the park. I figure since they are painting I hope they fixed the lighting also. Sorry no pics, we were going to fast in the monorail.
