Morning all!

I need y'alls opinions on something...

We were talking about getting a kitty instead of a dog. (curses I know) But at this point in our lives I think it'd be easier...

except... we have a toddler. And I'm afraid she'll terrorize a cat, not knowing better. I can just see her wanting to "play" and pulling the kitties tail and whatnot...

I've never seen a young child around a cat... do you think she could handle it? Or do you think we should wait another year or so until she really understands "gentle"?

I got distracted uploading some pics for my digital scrapbook that I just started tonight...

Thanks for the advice Amy...

I'm not sure what we're going to do... but if we do go the cat route, I'd like to get an adult (or almost adult) from the SPCA. I figure it's easier to see their tempermant, and you can often find one that's used to being around children, so it would have some tolerance as Lizzy's learning.

I guess the only thing I remember specifically NOT liking about cats, was that we close our doors at night - and it was always a pain getting the kitty out of the nursery (before we had Lizzy) or our room (I cannot sleep with a cat on my head - and that's always where my cats ended up.)

Aside from that, I'll just have to watch lizzy closely the next few weeks... all of my friends have dogs - and she's great with them, but no one has a cat. So it's hard to see what she'll do.

However, every time we see a kitty (which is rare) she goes crazy. She get's all excited and sort of dances around while pointing at them. LOL She's afraid to touch them though.

Time will tell... thanks for the advice Amy!

Going the adult route would be the best plan, IMHO... I'm not really that nervous about introducing Sprout to my 4 furbabies... Everyone keeps asking what we're going to do with them all... As if we'd just dump them now that we've got a kid coming. :veryconfu

A couple of important things: Have a room designated as the cat's special kid-free zone, that Lizzy's not allowed into. That way the cat can feel like they've got a safe area they can retreat to if they get overwhelmed. This helped when we introduced the kittens to my older cat a few years back.

Here's some more helpful info:

Good morning Bunny!

I agree about the older cat. The situation is a little different when you bring a baby into a cat's established home, rather than bringing a cat into a child's established home. Our cats were very protective of DD when we brought her home. I'll never forget the look on Pete's face the first time he heard her cry - his eyes grew as wide as saucers, and he looked at me as if to say "make her stop!"

Thanks I think. My stomach fliped at going up and down, just by seeing that. :hurl:

Oh, hush. Take some Gravol and you'll be fine. :lookaroun

(Well, except for maybe these... these I can't help you with.)

True, it's different when you bring something into the cat's/dog's territory. There are so many little things you can do to make the transition easier, and I've been working on them all...

My one cat, I'm thinking, is going to think that the kid is a giant kitten... they're so protective! It's adorable!

I did have a good day. It felt good to have one.

How is your grandfather? Did I get that right? :o

When is your plumbing getting done?

My grandfather's home from the hospital, and is happy to be back... but he's so old and frail these days...sigh.

Marc's been in contact with the plumber and I think they're going to start some day next week. Should be fun.
