Mission: Space tragedy

Whoa... Just whoa...

I am hoping that the media will show some restraint once this hits the wires, but I somehow doubt it as it is not their defining characteristic of late.

I wonder what TWDC is going to do as a response to this. It will be interesting to see whether or not M:S is open tomorrow...

I think the county has to report it and besides, this really isn't something you can keep hidden away for long.

Yeah but there is the loop hole, and I'm sure the boy wasn't pronounced dead on property, there has been many of problems/deaths that never get spoken of or hit the news.

Yep, he didn't die on property, he died on the way to the hospital. The paramedics were actually able to revive him a little bit but it didn't help much.

the county has to report it, as in file it... but they do not have to go public with it, and announce it to everyone.
yes, it will get out, and probably everyone in that area will know about it, probably everyone in florida for that matter... but I don't think this will be something you see on CNN, or hear about outside of the disney area... not saying that it's a bad thing, but disney has a lot of power over the media...

i do however feel terrible for this family! can you imagine going on vacation, and losing a family member on a trip that is supposed to be nothing but fun! i would feel bad for anyone, young or old, but it just makes it worse to me, knowing that he was only five.
i know the reports aren't out yet... he could have been in bad health anyway, or it was a bad judgment for his guardians to allow him to ride... but either way it's very very sad to hear this kind of news.

2 years ago when someone got killed on Big Thunder Mountain at Disneyland, that got out really fast so my guess is that this will too.

It's more than likely pre-existing conditions. Anyone remember that young girl who went on Body Wars (nowhere near as intense as MS) and died because of her pre-existing condition?
That was the first thing I thought about when I read the original post. She had a heart condition, didn't she?

I can't even imagine what that poor boy's family must be going through. I mean, a death is hard enough in itself, but having one of your loved ones die while at Disney World...I know if it were one of my loved ones, I doubt if I'd be able to go back ever.

Its sad, especially since it was a child. I'd bet it turns out to be a a pre-existiong brain aneurysm, often people get them as a result of a bad trauma to the head and don't even know it.Then they could be doing anything athletic or strenuous and the anuerism pops and the person dies. My remorse and heart goes out to the family of the child.

Its sad. WDW employes over 50,000 CMs in slow periods and you cant imagine how many guests come through each day. Its bound to happen to someone. I too was working at mission:space today during the incident. Very sad, but it happens, so cry or pray or do whatever you do. Lets not blow this up into the media and move on.

Have a nice day. :)

If it is indeed some sort of condition the child had, then the media won't care. Just like with suicides. Unless it's Disney's fault (like with BTMRR), they simply won't care enough to air anything on it.

Well, that's depressing to hear. :( That poor kid. It definately wasn't anyone's fault, so hopefully there will be no sueing.
Sadly, I'm sure the parasitic ambulance chasers will already be circling the bereaved family rubbing their hands with money .

This is what happened. Disney does not want to announce anything yet but soon enough they will have to. Highlight the text to read it.

A little boy was riding Mission: SPACE and passed out on the ride. The paramedics tried to revive him but he died on the way to the hospital. They aren't 100% sure what happened but the ride was closed all afternoon for a full-on investigation[/color].

Thats why they give warnings before you ride, you made it sound so horrible...

my thoughts and prayers go out to the family. This is very sad, however I think that this was just an unfortunate accident. I dont see this as hitting the media as it wasnt due to a mechanical failure during the ride itself. Belle
