Mission: Space "queasiness" level?

Without revealing any details about the ride, how does the M:S "queasiness" compare to other WDW rides? Is there anything similiar? I am sure I will enjoy M:S but I am just trying to get an idea of what the "stomach turning" level is! Thanx!

I Don't get queasy at all but my fiancee does. when they say don't close your eyes, they mean it. i tried it and it even made me a little dizzy. just follow the instructions and you'll be fine.

As you can find from many other threads on the same topic, responses to this vary greatly. Generally speaking, I think less people are affected by this that other intense rides, but more has been written about each event. Combine that with those that "misbehave" and don't bother with the rules and those that can convince themselves to be sick, and I think you cover your current urban legend.

Some folks regularly get carsick, some don't do well on boats no matter how smooth the water and some don't manage plane rides well. Guess this is about the same.

The ride is what it's supposed to be, a simulation of takeoff, slingshot around the moon and landing on mars. It's not supposed to be IaSW or Autotopia.

If you have inner ear problems, balance problems, or get sick from things that spin, DON'T RIDE. There is a queezy factor because of that. My Love can't ride it. He did once and got ill. I got dizzy but didn't get sick. Though I thought it was cool, I'm in no hurry to do it again. I have problems with my inner ear and he can't ride things that spin (though he rides rollercoasters with no problem).

So, really, it's going to be different for everybody. I suggest riding it at least once, though not on a full stomach and not at the beginning of the day (you'd hate to have it ruin your day if it does make you sick). It's very cool though and should be experienced at least once.

But ultimately, everyone's experience varries. Following the suggestions (don't close your eyes, keep looking straight ahead, etc.) can help.

The ride didn't make me queasy at all, but there is a lot of pressure due to the simulated space takeoff. If you follow all of the safety precautions, then you should be okay. The ride is really cool because it really does seem like you're blasting off to outer space (though I've never done that  ). The ride mechanism is similar to those old carnival rides that spin real fast and gravity holds you in as the floor drops (although the ride obviously isn't one of those). So, if you've ever done one of those (or anything else that spins real fast) then you should be okay. I definitely think it's worth experiencing.

You have to do at least once

I did this ride 4 times in row walking on because for some odd reason, and being a single rider, people forgot about this ride in the late afternoon and was never sick at all. You really don't even realize you are spinning the whole time. Just keep your eyes on the console and screen and you should be fine. This ride is one you have to experience at least once because it is incredible.

For me, it's a drunk dizziness just for a few seconds. Not that I ever get drunk.

That's a great description Tramp. I felt much the same, but my dizziness lasted for several minutes after the ride (kind of like when you were a child and would sometimes spin round and round on purpose just to get dizzy!). The dizzy sensation passed quickly for me (several minutes) and I never felt sick at any time. However, when I walked out of the ride, I couldn't walk straight!

For me, it's one of those rides that I just don't think I'll bother to repeat. It was fun, but once or twice is enough IMO. It's very much like the Country Bear Jamboree in that regard.

I had no problem riding Mission:Space, and I get motion-sickness even on 5 minute car-rides! All that I felt was a tiny bit of queaziness after coming off of it.
I'd say try it, and if you feel sick, you never have to try it again :)

If you are unsure, don't do it on a full stomach and obey all the instructions - keep your head back and your eyes open.

That worked for me, do it before breakfast and follow the instructions (they are there for a reason!), have fun!

I put it to the ultimate test! I drank A LOT of glasses of Beverly before stepping onto this ride. No muss, no fuss. I came off the ride just fine, although this was tested during the third time I rode it.

The only wierd effect was when the first time I rode it was over- and walking down the long curved hallway- I kept leaning in one direction for awhile. Other than that, you're fine unless you try turning your head during the ride itself.

I felt somewhat dizzy after my first ride, but after my 4th ride in an hour, I felt fine... Now it's ties with TOT as my favourite ride (excluding water slides)...

P.S. Kevin, nice signature, you English pig dog...:animwink:  Wish it to be known that they have been sacked...

Cherry Life Savers

One of those earlier threads mentioned that Astronauts use cherry life savers to avoid queasiness on a centrifuge.

Also, a little off the subject. I recently rode one of those rides where the room spins, the floor drops, and centrifugal force holds you against the wall. (Of course, you can see out the top that you're spinning.) I grabbed my head and pulled/tilted it forward and it looked like the world tilted 30-40 degrees horizontally. A very strange visual experience.

Anyone ever try this or the cherry lifesavers on MS?

I am one of those people who could ride anything as a kid well through my twenties without getting sick. Now that I'm older, I find that spinning rides and simulators are difficult. Dramamine helps but makes me a bit sleepy, on MS I chewed Orbit mint gum (very appropriate) and kept my eyes forward. This helped a bit, but I was still nauseous and dizzy for about 20 min. post ride. I hate that this is the reality for me as I love the concept of MS.

I am a 34 year old amusement park veteran who jsut took his 3 year old on her first steel coaster with a loop (she loved it and we worked up to it all summer).

That said, when they lowered the front of M:S against my chair with the little monitor I FREAKED OUT from claustrophobia. Whoever designed that should have let it stop about 3 inches farther out.

It ruined the ride for me. I don't remember a thing other than Lt. Dan's voice.

Just make sure you have an empty stomach and follow the instructions and you'll be fine. I was slightly nervous before my first ride but at the same time I was excited so I was ready.

Oh... and that slingshot around the moon is soooo awesome! I was "WOO-HOO"ing the whole time!

I think someone mentioned on a past thread that they took a pharmacy product and it worked, it may have been Dramamine.
