Hey, I have a question.

When looking at some of Kevlightyears pictures on Mission: Space, I noticed a strange object on what looks like Earth. Does anyone know what this is?

Feel free to use this post to discuss any other comments or questions about the Planets outside M:S as well.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing. The way I see it, either the big red thing is Jupiter or the Sun, if the planets are to represent the solar system we are in. It's probably supposed to be a totally different system.

Yes, with the up close view, I agree, it does look like the sun and the other two look alot more like planets. This pavillion could look really good at night if done right.

If you're referring to the "swoosh" around the planet, it looks like part of the overall theming of the building, possibly representing the path of a space flight?

That is what I'm talking about, it just looks kinda odd right now, maybe they will be adding something to it soon.

From that picture, it looks to me as if the curved bar around the Earth model could either represent the orbit of the moon, or simply be the support for the moon model that they'll add in the near future. Just a guess...

Before I used to think that the red ball was supposed to be Mars, but now that I see other planets around it (and small ones compared to it) I guess it isn't. Why is the sun red?

If the picture represents our solar system and the blue/white one is earth then the red must be the sun, as it is way too big to be Jupiter.

I think that the red planet IS mars. Instead of thinking about the relative sizes of the planets, consider how they planets would appear if you were in a space ship and were "close" to Mars. In that case, the other planets would appear smaller. Even jupiter (which is certainly much larger than mars from an objective viewpoint) would appear much smaller. I don't know that they got the proportions exactly correct, but this is how I think we are supposed to view these proportions of planets.

BETTER CLOSE-UP

I doubt the swoosh is for the moon, unless the moon is going to catapullt around and into the Big Red Ball (Sun?Mars?)

Here's a new, closer pic of the item around the blue planet (earth?)...

I'm thinking that the "swoosh" may contain lighting effects in it facing the "earth" (I'm also thinking that they aren't finished with the swoosh and it will have a pointed end...to represent the Orbit of a Spacecraft (much like the giant one on the main building))

I agree that the large planet is probably Mars (giving you the idea that you are CLOSER to Mars than the other planets)

Yeah, I agree with the spaceship theory, it propably will represent flight path when done, therefore ruling out the Red Planet as the Sun, unless you are suppose to go to the smaller planet to the far right and accidentally head for the sun.

Actually, if they are supposed to be even close to scale even the red one is too small to be Jupiter. Jupiter is HUGE, it's diameter is about 11 times that of the Earth.

I don't think they are representations of our solar system. I think they just represent types of planets - an Earth like planet, a gas giant like Jupiter, and the big red one would be a star.

Just my feelings.

I think we're over thinking t his......lol

It probably is earth, jupiter and the sun....scale isn't important...if so, Jupiter would have to be about the size of test track, and the sun would take up more room than epcot. :)

I agree...who cares about the "scale" and "size" of these planets???

IT JUST LOOKS COOL!

Well, I guess my intent on this thread was to find someone "in the know" who could shed some light on the swoosh and possibly tell us what planets they are, if any. Maybe they are cosmic Billards.... ooooooooo!:animwink:
