Mission: Space -- How is it really?

Look for the hidden mickey in the launch scene before you take off! Another at the end when you land on Mars!

God bless the "Ignore" button.
If you can stomach the Orange side, I think M:S is terribly underrated, just because it replaced a ride that was past its prime.
If you can only handle the Green side, though, it's nothing more than a mediocre simulator.

I've actually ridden the Orange side over and over. I do agree that it needs an overlay similar to Star Tours 2.0 to change it up a bit. Just taking a different "role" each time doesn't make it that different.

Or a branching storyline that bestows various calamities on the ship if you or your teammates fail in their duty to hit their one button.
You couldn't have the ride vehicle go through different motions based on this, but the audio/video portion should at least branch.

Too bad they couldn't do a tie-in with Gravity.

I've tried both, green and orange. Neither made me sick or anything. Overall it was meh, pressing do-nothing buttons and hoping the person next to me doesn't barf on me while watching an outdated cgi video. I haven't gone on it since. Seems like a lame replacement for Horizons, I guess I prefer the smell of oranges to the smell of stale puke.

... Although, the Horizons' old space station is a punch to the gut every time we pass it in the queue line.
Are you talking about the big, turning gravity wheel? If so, that was used in the filming of the Gary Sinese "Mission to Mars" movie; they just stuck the Horizons logo on to "pay homage."

To the OP, personally, I like MS, but it's because I love Space and space travel and not because I think it's a great ride. I can see how thrill seekers, claustrophobics and those who get motion sickness wouldn't like it, as it's a high risk/low reward situation for many.

They should tweak the story so that your training mission malfunctions and you get launched into space. If there was only a story available to give them a general direction.

Orange side or no side.

Does that astronaut have any clue what's going on behind him??? He looks very calm.

I have sinus issues. so I'm thinking about skipping it when I go in May.

As someone who suffers from chronic sinus infections, that is a wise idea. I'll spare you the details, but if you wish to enjoy the rest of day, go on the green side. The orange side amplifies the worst (sore throat, nausea, coughing, hoarseness) post nasal drip symptoms X100.

Ever been on the Rotor, where it sucks you to the wall and then the floor drops down? THAT ride is torture. I was worried that Mission Space would feel like that, but ........NO, not at all. It's no way near as intense as the Rotor (or similar ride). You get short bursts of pressure and that's about it.

Tip for ladies - inhale deeply and hold it for a sec while you bring the restraint down. Make sure you can breathe through the whole thing. I think that helps a lot.

If you don't inhale and bring that restraint down, you won't be able to breathe well through the experience.

That's my Tip For Today. :)

Thanks - that is good advice.

I've longed for a video of this attraction from a view outside the pods but inside the hangar. Does this exist? I'd love to see what it does!

I am too claustrophobic to ride it, I tried once, but as soon as I sat down, I realized I was going to freak out because of the screen being so close, so I have yet to ride it. After my wife rode it, she said it was a good thing that I didn't ride it, because even she didn't like the close space.
