Mission: Space -- How is it really?

I've done both Orange and Green. I'll never do Orange again. Green is fun. My 9 year old loves the ride but he won't be with us on the next trip so we'll probably skip it all together. RRC is my fave in HS. It beats my head to pieces but it's fun.

I have only done Orange and have never had a problem. I do everything it tells you not to do, I look away from the screen, look around and I have never gotten the least bit sick, the same with my daughter but my brother in law who will ride anything with no fear or sickness rode it once and came off looking for the trash to puke in

I still love Mission Space even though the Orange side is less intense then it use to be. I got to ride during their soft opening, 2 times in the morning and 2 times at night and I swear they were making the ride more and more intense as the day went on to see how much people could handle.

Mission Space is one of those attractions that I'm pretty indifferent toward. I don't particularly mind the ride, but the queue and pre-show bore me after so many ride-throughs.

The claustrophobia + spinning at lethal speeds + WDW maintenance scares me out of my wits!

I do love it! Peculiar little ride.

The sole and sufficient cure for the nausea is to keep your head facing forward, keeping your eyes open. And try not to panic!
What is it about Disney Maintenance that scares you? The plane you ride to get to Disney. Thats the maintenance program that should scare you.If you saw how slowly it actually turns you would see how non- lethal it is. Look at the support arms that hold the capsules. The ride is way over engineered .

Honestly, I hated it. Absolutely hated it.

1 the bar/chest thing that comes down has little to no "give" and it seriously hurts
2 I've never felt more dizzy...it's hard to watch the screen without feeling like you wanna puke. LOL
3 I spent the rest of the morning trying to compose myself. LOL I felt sick, headach-y for the rest of the morning. It wasn't until lunch when we sat to eat and drink that I started feeling better.

My FIL felt the same way about 2-3. lol

It's like being in a REAL spacecraft, Go see the Mercury capsule at the Astronaut Hall of Fame, And I've been on the flight deck of the shuttle it's D--n small, Also the cockpit of an F-4 Phantom fitted for electronic warfare so it has much more stuff than a regular fighter.

Yes, DF was working on a project to enhance capabilities and got me in to see it during a break from college, Realized immediately that i did not have a career as a fighter pilot, About 6-8" too tall. You need to be 5-6/8 to fit in a modern fighter cockpit as the Martin-Baker seats don't adjust for height.

And no I don't personally know any members of the Martin-Baker fan club but I'm sure there are a few on this board.

I have never had any problems with coasters and such. Love 'em! But, in the past, I have had problems on fast spinner rides. So, the first time I walked in to be seated in my M:S ride vehicle I looked up and said to myself... "Oh ****, it's a friggin' centifuge - I'm toast".
To my surprise, however, I absolutely LOVED the damn thing!!!
I followed the instructions to keep looking forward and such, but, also looked away on my second ride to see what might happen. Nothing. I don't know what it is. Maybe the fact that I can't actually see anything spinning, maybe?
No claustrophobia here - have never suffered from it.
Love the G forces and the feeling of my face peeling back. I've gone on it as many as 3 times (walk on) in a row. After my first ride I even went to take one of the barf bags as a souvie and a CM said to me... "You might not wanna' do that. People have had their faces ALL over them". Yea, I put it back.
Anyway, all that bein' said, it is, ultimately, kinda' over for me 'cause of the same ol' same ol' over and over again. Although, RnRC is the same ol' same ol' every time too, but I still love ridin' that puppy...go figure.....

At 5'-10" I'm still too tall, then? o_O ;)
Very familiar with military aircraft, but especially American WWII era, not quite as much after. Not familiar with Martin-Baker seats...

I really enjoy the orange experience. But I'm one of those jerks that spins the tea cup until you feel a little drunk so I can take it, so I'll use my mom as an example. This is a woman who had a panic attack on Flight of the Hippogriff. She rode M:S and did not make a peep.

If you are prone to motion sickness, ride the green. If you are a coaster chicken, you should give orange a chance.

As for RnRC: The scariest part is the launch. Its one of the tamer looping coasters I've experienced. There is only like 3 loops and rest is just going around corners. Its faster than the other Disney coasters, but the coasters at Uni, Busch, and your local Six Flags make it look a lot less intense in comparison.

We did MS the first year it was open they only had the one experience and I lost it. Had to go to first aide I refuse to get back on. My DS now 15 has never ridden it again he still has flash backs of thinking his mother is about to die. Now RnRC thats a different story we ride that several times each trip.

Mission: Space is a great ride. The theme is really quite grand and done right; from the instructional videos and the concept... Although, the Horizons' old space station is a punch to the gut every time we pass it in the queue line. Flight simulator training on a mission to Mars, using real maps taken from NASA for authenticity and other details make this journey unique and to the Disney standards.

I have ridden both Green and Orange. The green is very tame compared to the orange and my 9 year old nephew absolutely loved it. Of course, he's a science buff and anything in that sort of immersive environment raises his excitement (but he was so scared of Splash Mountain's drop just three days before).

If you get motion sickness, my wife recommends buying Sea Bands. They are two little elastic things that go around both wrists with buttons on the inside to create pressure points (it helps her with the flight to MCO, too). We rode MS before our reservation at the Biergarten, so I would definitely advise to ride this before you eat lunch/dinner.

Make every ride you experience enjoyable. There's an optimal way to do that... i.e., there's no reason to get on EEA if you feel like you have a grumper on deck and have to sit for 40+ minutes.

The ride does nothing for me. I went on it when it first opened several times and thought it was cool, but the novelty quickly wore off. Add that to the fact that the ride (orange side anyway) just flat out smells and the last few times I've ridden I've witnessed two on ride pukings and one while exiting (back of leg splatter), along with a woman collapsing and I just see no reason to go on it.

I'd say try it once late in the day and decide for yourself what your feelings are.

Green or Orange, Mission:Space is super-lame.
I've done both versions and it's hard to even tell the difference. Orange is supposedly more intense, but the sensation is really just like being sat on by a large person. Disney claims the ride will exert 2.5gs, but I've looked at data collected by actual guests with smartphone apps collecting force data that suggests the current number is closer to 1.4gs, if that.
The worst part of the ride is the insulting fake interactivity aspect, where it doesn't matter whether or not you hit the big red button in front of you or just hammer away at it like an idiot the whole time. The CGI graphics are badly dated and the whole thing was such a disappointment that Disney sued the centrifuge's manufacturer and ended up getting millions in settlement.

I personally love it. It's not for everybody, though. They repeatedly remind you that if you are prone to motion sickness, if you are claustrophobic, if you have health problems, etc. that you should not ride. The orange (more intense) is really thrilling. It has G-Force which is pretty crazy. The green is milder, and I would recommend that for your first time.

Oh, on Orange one time I tried turning my head to the side for a little while.
You know, for science.
Definitely regretted it.
I didn't feel anything at first, but once I was off the ride I felt terrible for about 45 minutes. I didn't feel nauseous, really, just kind of crummy. It was a little like being badly hung over.
