Mission Space=Big Flop?

It'd be great if they reworked/expanded it into a full pavilion with a dark ride narrated by Neil deGrasse Tyson as a companion piece to the Pukemotron. So much you can do with a Space pavilion, but it's just a thrill ride with a gift shop, old vidya and a McDonalds Playland attached to it.
This is exactly why I hate MS. They cut corners waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much.

I am not sure where they cut corners. Horizons, while a great dark ride was a simple omnimover which was replaced by a +100 million dollar state of the art ride. The ride offers 2 intensity options which is great and allows more people to enjoy it than having just one option. It may not be the best or most interesting ride in WDW, but to say you hate it because Disney cut waaaaaaaaaay to many corners is just . Is there more that can be done with Mission Space's ride system in the future? I would hope yes and that we would be able to get a more user customized experience to add a variable to the ride.

Considering they cut everything except the "preshow" I would say they cut corners pretty hardcore on MS.

But the second option was added on later when the ride started killing people.

Just what I was going to say.

What were some of the cuts to MS?

Did the initial budget get cut or were the design costs spiraling out of control to where cuts were made to original plans to stay within budget?

But the second option was added on later when the ride started killing people.
No, I understand that. MS was canceling thrill ride junkies from day one in the soft openings when it was toned down. I was there the day of the big dog and pony show when they closed down Epcot (I think it was 6:00PM) in 2003 for the official ribbon cutting ceremony. If my memory serves me correct, it was 2006 when they started offering the "less intense" green version of the ride. I think it is a good option for the existing ride to allow more people/families to ride it and not just the thrill junkies.

....any ride that can impact equilibrium ....is one that I will stay away from ...period.

....I don't have an inner ear disorder ...never have. But I worked with someone who's in-laws worked at WDW ...so they went OFTEN with the 'family discount'. I worked with his wife too ...and she told me that the first time her husband and her father both went on MS ...they were messed-up the ENTIRE day when they got off the ride. REALLY ...messed up!! So ...that little story made me think ..."Do you want to chance losing a whole day at Epcot ...for ONE ride"?

....my answer has always been a definite ..."NO"!!

I got a little queezy and a little dizzy but nothing bad...while I was in there it was a BLAS!
The Blast Off is incredible...I read somewhere that NASA astronauts say that the sensation and feelings on that ride are pretty realistic.

Horizons was, in the opinion of many, the best omnimover dark ride ever. Plus, you had Soarin' in the middle of the ride with a better looking print of film that sent you over more varied locations (microchip anyone?) and a choose your own ending finale. I suppose we can all have different definitions of state of the art, but in many ways, Disney has never done better than Horizons.

I would agree. It is a shame that that the Honey Boo Boo loving majority of theme park guests did not share the same opinion.

I rode it for the first time last trip and I thought it was kinda boring. Nothing really thrilling about it. Maybe when it first opened it was good but nowadays it's just meh, okay.

Horizons has been closed 15 years now so lets say it was still open and operating, what would be the general opinion of the ride today?

I would have to believe we would have a lot of people complaining about Disney never updating attractions and always having to ride the same stale attractions.

To make this clear, I share the same sentiment and love for the original attractions like Horizon's, SSE and WOM and wish they were all still here.

If not updated at all? Awful.

If sympathetically updated as planned like Spaceship Earth has been? I have my view.

But then the rest of the park wouldn't have kept up.

They decided to pull it in early 93. I'll testify it was very popular summer 93 :)
I can testify that it was a ghost town the previous October. It was nice for me because I could sit on it as long as I wanted, but I knew the attraction would not be long for this world.
