Minor ToT updates

Just thought that I'd contribute to the thread.

Work has begun on a complete overhaul to the theming of the attraction from The Twilight Zone to a more... Disney approach.

The new name will be "Can Donald Escape From The Tower?" (Yes, an open ended question much like WWYC?) and will be a "Mind bending adventure through a spooky, haunted tower, where anything goes."

Guests will see video screens showing the lovable character, Stitch, as he wreaks havoc on the elevator cables.

Included in each vehicle will be 21 touch screens, which allow guests to "Choose their fear." The drop sequence will be taken out completely, and will instead be a slow moving return to the bottom of the hotel as elevator guests watch cartoons of themself being scared in ways that they have chosen!

Wait, this is a joke. Right?

I didn't notice anything different when I rode last week, but the ride was great as always. Everything seemed crisp and working. The lighting and sound were terrific.

And hell, they even had 80% ToT merchandise in the Tower Shop and NO Pirates crap at all.

See, who says I am always negative?

Oh, and there really was a plan for a toon-themed Tower back in the Disney Decade too!

God bless the "Ignore" button.
When I went on it... I think exactly one week ago, the audio about blew out my ear drums... it was TOO loud in the elevator. Also, I miss how the car used to peek out of the elevator shaft before the drop...

I got to ride this for the first time last week!:sohappy:

I have wanted to ride ToT since our first trip in 2000, but hubby is too scared. I finally was able to ride with my nephew (17) and two nieces (15 & 14). I can't wait till my kids are old enough to ride with me!

This ride is AWSOME!

Does anyone know who the actors are in the film? I know they used cool technolgy involving Rod Sterling (and some voice overs for additional dialog) and I know who the little girl is (Lindsay Ridgeway), but no clue who the others are. This is one of those useless facts I was interested in knowing.

That loudness issue has been fixed now, but it was pretty funny being ear shattering loud!

However, the elevators NEVER "peaked out of the shaft"... I have no clue why so many people think it used to do this.

that would be, in fact.... impossible, considering the 'doors' are a good 20 feet above the car when it enters the shaft.

so yes, it never happened.

Glad you liked it!!!

As for the preshow video, no special technology at all. There were urban myths that Disney hired a Rod Serling look-alike, but that is not true. They took film from a Twilight Zone episode, It's a Good Life, which opened with the line "This, as you may recognize, is a map of the United States" which was superimposed on the boiler room background and cut to the "This, as you may recognize, is a-" (cuts to closer view of service elevator). The new dialogue was provided by Mark Silverman, an impressionist that voiced Rod Serling in the attraction. His voice was also used to replace "...Map of the United States" in the preshow with: "...Maintainence Service Elevator". No look-alike was used, only footage of the actual Rod Serling. There was also an urban legend that Rod Serling was smoking a cigarette in the certain Twilight Zone episode, and that "Family-Friendly Disney had to edit it out"... also untrue. Rod Serling was not smoking in the intro of It's a Good Life.

Here's a video of the opening of It's a Good Life (watch at 0:32):

The footage in this was used from when Rod Serling says the following: "Tonight's story of the Twilight Zone is somewhat unique and calls for a different kind of introduction. This as you may recognize is a-" ... and then cuts to a shot without Serling. There was a voiceover by Mark Silverman. Note the absence of the cigarette in this shot.

And Here's the preshow film (you could just watch at 1:04, but I'd watch the whole thing):

Notice how the film uses the exact words from It's a Good Life, as well as the same Rod Serling. The film is cut to the moment when the Mark Silverman voiceover mentions "Maintainence service elevator".

Here's a question. I think my favorite TZ episode is "The After Hours" where if at all is a reference to it in the ride? A gold thimble somewhere perhaps?

^I've seen that episode, and it is a good one. Since there is a ninth floor set of doors that open to the world, they should put a little gold thimble somewhere... or a mannequin... but that wouldn't be very subtle.
