From towerofterror.org:

Cast Credits for Library Film in Lobby Show:

* Rod Serling: himself
* Rod Serling sound-alike: Mark Silverman. (Hundreds of folks auditioned for the part but Mark was chosen for the role by Rod Serling's widow who made the final selection after listening to him on audio tape.)
* Bellhop: Parviz Perry Vessali
* Child Star: Lindsay Ridgeway
* Nanny: Charlotte Helms

According to that site, there is a golden thimble in the display case in the lobby, in the area just before you enter the library (it's duplicated for both library entrances).

That's cool, thanks. It's those little details that make the attraction great. i don't suppose a certain player piano or melting paining are hidden somewhere?

I think they are referring to DCA's Tower here. We only have one display case in the lobby, and I don't think it has the golden thimble in it.

Glad you liked it!!!

As for the preshow video, no special technology at all. There were urban myths that Disney hired a Rod Serling look-alike, but that is not true. They took film from a Twilight Zone episode, It's a Good Life, which opened with the line "This, as you may recognize, is a map of the United States" which was superimposed on the boiler room background and cut to the "This, as you may recognize, is a-" (cuts to closer view of service elevator). The new dialogue was provided by Mark Silverman, an impressionist that voiced Rod Serling in the attraction. His voice was also used to replace "...Map of the United States" in the preshow with: "...Maintainence Service Elevator". No look-alike was used, only footage of the actual Rod Serling. There was also an urban legend that Rod Serling was smoking a cigarette in the certain Twilight Zone episode, and that "Family-Friendly Disney had to edit it out"... also untrue. Rod Serling was not smoking in the intro of It's a Good Life.

Here's a video of the opening of It's a Good Life (watch at 0:32):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xfGWvexg90w

The footage in this was used from when Rod Serling says the following: "Tonight's story of the Twilight Zone is somewhat unique and calls for a different kind of introduction. This as you may recognize is a-" ... and then cuts to a shot without Serling. There was a voiceover by Mark Silverman. Note the absence of the cigarette in this shot.

And Here's the preshow film (you could just watch at 1:04, but I'd watch the whole thing):

Notice how the film uses the exact words from It's a Good Life, as well as the same Rod Serling. The film is cut to the moment when the Mark Silverman voiceover mentions "Maintainence service elevator".

:)

Thanks for the info!! I didn't know that, that's very cool. :)

Yeah, def sounds like DCA. I think our gold thimble is in the display case on the wall across from the broken main elevator in the lobby (the case with the gloves-- that's how I always described it)

I'm curious now.
