Disney Parks Blog has confirmed they are from the old Snow White ride - http://disneyparks.disney.go.com/bl...even-dwarfs-mine-train-at-magic-kingdom-park/

"When mine cars pull out of the load area, they’ll travel up the track to the top of the mountain, where a jib crane sits topped by two ominous vultures, the latter of which originally appeared in the park’s original Snow White’s Scary Adventures attraction. This is the last stop before the mine train’s cars plunge into a mine shaft."

I think that is a great nod to the former attraction! I wonder if any other elements might be incorporated into the inner show scenes.

And that they can't nail down an opening date is beyond absurd. They know good and well the exact date it will be ready to run, and they won't tell the people who are paying to come ride it. It's opening in 2014! THAT'S THREE WEEKS AWAY.

They don't want to have to deal with the backlash of disappointed people if the ride is delayed, its better for them to give an approximate time frame rather than telling people its going to be open "x" date and then keep pushing back if need be. If people really really want to ride this, its probably better to push back their vacation until they know its ready.

That's understandable to a point - but they've started using just "2014" - it was previously "early 2014" and now just "2014" - it's not like this is some groundbreaking never-before-attempted thing here. It's a kiddie coaster with free-swinging cars. At this stage in the game, they should have a firm handle on its opening timeframe.

And the new rumor about Uni opening a family coaster in IOA by late 2014? Hilarious. SDMT should have opened with the rest of Fantasyland in 2012.

A group of four (4) guys bought a piece of land close to our home and have a built an entire house by themselves from foundation to roof in just under 8 months. No big crews or big equipment. While this is a far stretch from building a roller (kiddie) coaster, I often think of SDMT when I pass by the house and how long it is taking Disney with all the crews, equipment and money they have. Its laughable at this point and they have let the hype build up to a point where expectations are probly higher than what the coaster will deliver. I hope I'm wrong though.

I am not sure where you saw just 2014, but everyplace I have seen recently that have been saying "Spring 2014". I am sure that have a target date, but construction of any ride can be very un-predictable. The biggest variable is still the testing. So far we have only seen empty car testing, so next they need to move on to testing with water dummies, then testing with real people. Issues could pop up at any point in this process an cause delays. It's better to err on the side on caution and wait until they can be almost 100% sure of a date, then to put a date out there and have people be disappointed.

I wonder how figures designed to be installed in a building in 1971 are going to hold out unprotected from the elements in Florida today?

They appear to have been repainted so I assume they would have used paint and sealers that are designed to hold up to the weather.

Must... resist... obligatory.... Yeti.... reference....

Otherwise they will just put a strobe light on them.

Sorry wasn't strong enough ;)
