Middle Earth theme park at Universal

Well, the rumor states that universal is talking to the Tolkien family for the rights, but last I read, the Tolkien family (all but one of them) hate what Peter Jackson did with LoTR, so I highly doubt that they would let it happen after that.

Plus, I don't think that LoTR and The Hobbit have a large enough fanbase like Harry Potter does, but that's just my opinion.

I think this may be a bit of a misstatement. Sure, Potter fans are younger and more enthusiastic, but JRR fans are much deeper set in their love for the material. Most importantly, it will draw yet a whole new demographic to the parks that wouldn't go normally. Much bigger fresh guest potential.

Yeah, I just took a second look at box office numbers and LoTR is a lot higher than I thought it was. I love LoTR and The Hobbit books and movies, I just find that it is a lot harder to find others that do compared to Harry Potter. Almost everyone in my family has seen some or all of the Harry Potter Movies, while I think only my 2 uncles have seen LoTR.

But, my one family is a terrible demographic to begin with, you are probably right that it could be sucessful, but I don't think a whole park is the answer if Potter only gets 2 lands.

And you are right. Potter is much more mainstream. But Rings/Hobbit will draw a massive crowd that would never venture to Florida for a theme park. Just as Potter did.

Just look at FLE. Is it neat? Sure. Will it draw in new guests that just cannot wait to ride a DL ride that has been open for a year and a half? No.

Everest was the last attraction to have any buzz and drawing power. It single handedly pulled AK from the abyss.

Hmmm, its so crazy it just may work....

Universal Orlando already overlaps a lot of what Rings/Hobbit Fans would like, it could be a big selling point and finally make Universal a 4-5 day vacation spot instead of 2-3. Can't say that I haven't armchair imagineered any LoTR ideas either.

So, who do we talk to to get a Doctor Who themed land in Disney?

Universal may not be looking at the Orlando park or even the Hollywood park for this, depending on contracts they may be trying to get rights for their international parks to add an attraction or two based upon the works. Orlando may do something down the road after that though, but they are busy with more harry potter and don't have much land left unless they use some of the few remaining expansion spots, and given that these were books IOA would be the best fit. Bye Bye marvel or Toon lagoon in the distant future?

Edit: Completely forgot about the "rest" of Lost Continent could be used as well... pending how much room is needed and if they can work around potter.

I would not put any stock in this.

As with any internet rumor, Your Milage May Vary.

Oh, I think UNI has MAJOR expansion plans in mind. ... But I just don't think they are based on building a park devoted to LoTR in any way, shape or form. Just as Disney isn't building Marvel or Star Wars parks -- and they own those rights (except for Marvel in O-Town anyway).

But I just logged back in because I REALLY don't wish to see 18 pages added between now and 8 a.m. that UNI is building a third gate with LoTR/Hobbit properties.

Doctor Who is so huge right now. It would be an insane international draw.

UNI''s rumoured LotR interest is not in the Peter Jackson LotR / Hobbit films, but the books.

Would be cool if it came to pass. But the above is why I think it won't. Fans will expect everything to look like PJ's New Zealand fantasy world, instead of a new visualisation.
