I will definitely miss muppet vision but I am glad they are putting this in the theater instead of stupid movie previews. Anything is better than movie previews ( even the old golden dreams show :hungover:)

I thought this was the Muppet theater. You mean to tell me there's a second 3D theater immediately next to it?

Why would you need a second 3-D Theater? Pressler was too cheap to build three at opening... Only Muppets and ITTBAB got the funds (though the films were already in the can) The Whoopi Spectacular had to be filmed from scratch, so standard cameras were chosen to save money....

Now, we could have Philarmagic at the Top of the hour, and GD at the bottom. Doubt either showing would have a capacity audience...

Interesting to note, now only one facility at DCA offers 3-D glasses.....

I think wrinkle time sounds right. Zootopia is was like 3 years ago
The Zootopia preview was in the It's Tough to Be a Bug Theater and Wrinkle in Time, Alice Through the Looking Glass, and then Pixar Shorts were all in the Sunset Showcase Theater. Hope they used the time after the last movie preview to transform the theater to PhilharMagic. If not it's going to be another cheap overlay and disappointment.

I've seen this show multiple times but only in Hong Kong (rewatched it last summer) so its great its finally in my actual neck of the woods. It did feel a little dated to be honest watching it in my last visit but no more than Muppets 3D did and that was WHEN DCA opened. This will be a great film because it has the traditional 3D Disney does so well and should be a big hit like it is in all the other resorts.

I do wonder what was the reason for including it out of the blue? Maybe they realized getting rid of all the movies at DCA (remember this puppy had FIVE at opening but zero today) is probably missing a nice people eater that helps with capacity. Being a cheap attraction to operate (FIVE movies in 2001 ;)) is another reason why its probably good to have one film up. And come June the resort is going to need all the help it can get.

I just want the WDW version to get a proper refurb so it's not blurry.

It's because the WDW version was never upgraded to digital HD. They are still using film. And their 3D glasses are scratchy and re-used a dozen times too many.

All three 3-D theaters at Disneyland (Bugs, Sunset Showcase, Tomorrowland) were upgraded to digital HD projection systems several years ago. It makes a big difference. The Tokyo version of Philharmagic is digital HD.

But I just watched a YouTube version of the downsized and value engineered version of Philharmagic they have in Paris. Oof! :bored:

What a shame if that is the version we are getting. It's really a junk pile compared to the big, full-effect version they have in WDW and Tokyo.

Just seen footage of the Paris version, it looks terrible without the full-effect (Especially the entire sequence where Donald is getting sucked into a tornado and the ending).

it makes sense, though... downsized and value engineered are two terms i can use to describe current disney management style

Well, I attended by first S.O.A.R. meeting yesterday morning, and let me tell you was a very interesting meeting, including the DLR head of Government Relations... Alas, that is about all I can tell you.

I will drop one thing, we spent a lot of time discussing Trader Joe's....

And I am going back to writing for the interwebs, the deal should be finalized in the next few days.

But I can say, that the city of Anaheim takes no claim to what might appear at the Sunset Showcase Theater, and that would be a 7-0 vote! ;)
@Darkbeer1 I must admit, I'm totally lost and not getting the hints. Anyone care to spell it out?

You do realize that 70MM film has a higher resolution and superior clarity to so called "digital HD", which by the way is the term to describe your standard home television. 70MM film is higher resolution than commonly used 2K or even higher resolution 4K digital projection. We still don't have digital projector available that can meet the projection quality of 5/70 film.

Scratched and worn glasses are a problem regardless of what projection. A blurry image is because someone hasn't focused the projector lens properly or your eyes are starting to fail you.

Yes... I'm a huge advocate for the use of 70mm whenever possible. Problem is, the film gets dust, scratched, worn out after years of continual use. Disney isn't gonna pay for new film prints every few years, it's far easier for them to just switch to 4k and be done with it. Many thought Soarin' looked better when they converted it to digital a few years back... not because the digital projection was inherently better, but because Disney hadn't done anything to keep the 70mm print in good condition.
