I know that adults are allowed to dress up for the party, but in past visits I have never really seen that many in costume. My question is are any of you dressing up for this years party?

Big 'yes' on that question.

I always attend dressed as 'Figment'. I will be around the 18th this year, so keep a eye out !

When i have attended in the past, i have seen MANY adults dressed up. Oh sure, not everyone will...a lot will just wear large themed hats they can buy On Property at any of the Disney shops but there are still a lot that go 'all out'. I find locals have the more elaborate getups ( makes perfect sense from a transporation standpoint..). Visitors, unless they have already attended previously, tend to shy away from dressing up. Part of the reason is likely they simply don't have the means to transport a costume ( of the room in their luggage). Some simply don't want to draw such attention to themselves ( not realizing there are hundreds of other people dressed up too..). Some would rather not..and that is of course okay, as it is their personal choice.

Planning on going in costume? Go for it. Don't be shy. You would be surprised what you can stuff in a carryon bag that will pass as a decent costume. It makes the party a lot more fun seeing folks dressed up, and you will have more fun being dressed as it gives you a feeling of being part of the party! I find it really does add a great added element to the experience of the night.

Also, going in costume entertains the CMs and a lot of them will comment you on your outfit..exspecially if it is a character they can recognize. I cannot recall how many times 'Figment' has gone over big with them..and the sack loads of candy i have taken back home with me...

Give it a try, i think you will be glad you did!

Have a great time!!!

I've never been to it, but I know many adults who have gone and in costume. It's cool to see their pictures of them dressed as zombies and taking pictures with the cast members that work outside the Haunted Mansion. :)

We are going on Oct. 7th. My daughter will be dressed as Belle, I will be in a make shift NASA flight suit, sister is going as a pirate, mom may go as Maleficent. If my daughter enjoys it on that Thursday, I may take her back the following Monday or Tuesday night.

we went last year and a ton of adults were dressed up. we saw everything from people wearing halloween tshirts, families wearing costumes to fit different characters from a single or multiple disney story/movie (we saw families that used their group to be different characters from cinderella, another family was all from alice in wonderland, another the incredibles etc...) another group we saw looked like ghosts who just stepped out of the haunted mansion (and they didn't have any kids with them). we wore tshirts that made it look like you were a pirate because we were worried about cumbersome costumes on rides and being to warm but this year we're going all out.

We went in '08 as a spur of the moment thing and we didn't want to spend $100 on costumes for the three of us in the parks. We bought DS a pair of pumpkin Mickey ears and that was his costume. :) We'll be going to the Nov. 1st party this year. Now there are four of us; the two kids will be dinosaurs, I will be Bill Nye and the wife will be Ellen. Very excited!

I'm planning on it. Last year we went on Oct 31 and there were TONS of people dressed up. We are going Oct 31 this year also, so I'm trying to find a good costume.

Thanks everyone for the replies. We are still torn. Half the group wants to dress the other half doesn't. We also don't want to feel out of place walking through the lobby to catch the monorail in costume LOL

Last year we saw an entire family go as the incredibles. We were on our way back to the Wilderness Lodge, they were coming over on the boat from the Wilderness lodge. The dad in the group just looked at me and said: 'Well, it sounded like a good idea at the time.' :D

In 07 we went and I saw so many adults dressed up. But last year I did not see as many. 07 was later in Sept and last year it was labor day week.

Do NOT hesitate to dress up! It is extremely fun! Don't worry about feeling "out of place", you may get a few odd looks, but you will get more looks of acceptance. Especially from the other guests that will be following you to the party!

Yeah, we got some stares walking through Pop Century on our way to the party, but we had many, many, more looks of approval, thumbs up, and high fives.

Dress it up. Ham it up. Yuk it up. Have a ball. Enjoy yourself with your friends and family. Isn't that what "The World" is all about? :D

If that's your biggest concern, then just bring the costumes with you to the park, change in the rest room, and leave your regular clothes in a locker. We did that last year only because we arrived at the park at 4pm and the party didn't start until 7pm. We even put on all our ghostly face makeup in the restroom. Check our our coordinated family costumes in my profile pictures! Getting to dress up was half the fun that night!

Were going October 3rd for the first time and were going to be the Star Wars family. Our 21 month old son will be a Ewok, our 4 month old son will be Yoda, my wife will be Princess Leia and I will be a Jedi.

Not only don't feel weird about dressing up, ENJOY it. It's a LOT of fun to be in the Magic Kingdom dressed up, trick-or-treating. I mean, how great is that?

One piece of advice though: regardless of the costume, wear comfortable shoes. You're still walking around like mad and you still don't want to be in heels or whatever. I wore a big ballgown, angel wings...and sneakers. And I wasn't the only one. So don't be afraid to chose shoes you'd want to walk around Disney wearing despite your costume.

DH and I are going as hillbillies on 10/14. We don't want to spend $100 apiece on costumes, and definitely want to be comfortable, so that's our easy solution. An option would be to make Halloween t-shirts - I was just at Michael's today, and transfer sheets are roughly 10 for $10. Those are the kind where you use your computer to create a design, print it onto the sheet, and then iron it onto the shirt. That may be the best middle ground for your group.

I dress up for the party each year.
When I go with people who want to dress up, we go fully costumed.

Last year, my Mother wasn't too keen on dressing up. I bought devil horns and an angel halo.
I wore a red shirt I already owned with the horns and she wore a white shirt she already owned and the halo. Total $ for costume was less than $7.

If money is the concern, do something small. If feeling silly is the concern, do something subtle. The party is definitely more fun in costume.
