Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party 2017

Wow, tonight's party seems like a hot mess from what I'm hearing (and this is the first one for the season).
And some character lines had waits over 3 hours from one report. Man oh man is City Hall going to be flooded with complainers tonight!

Long character lines on the first party night seems have been a thing for the last few years. The people who really want the first party don't want the rides they want the characters and therefore the lines will be long.

We will have to agree to disagree. The fall season is very popular at Disney with thousands of Guests wanting to participate and not every person is going to be able to travel in October. For me personally, summer season is over the moment the kids go back to school (August 20 - 25) not labor day. I think it's great that Disney has extended the season a little to allow more to partake in it and I'm sure it's great for business as well. The Christmas season has also been extended into January with Disney not removing all the decorations until after Marathon weekend normally.
Then why not start the Halloween Party in July or extend the Christmas Party to March? Why not offer the 4th of July fireworks beginning in May? Why not offer the special Thanksgiving dinners at the restaurants in October? I'm not being flippant, I would genuinely like to hear your answer to those questions. If those events were extended in those ways, there would definitely be more people who were able to partake in them than can now.

The problem, of course, is that the farther you move away from the actual holiday, the less special that holiday season becomes and the less connected to the holiday the event is. There are things that happen at Walt Disney World in July that folks who visit at Christmas time will not experience and vice versa. Every season is different, every season has its own special things. It is not a bad thing that if you go during one season you can't experience what happens in another season.

I'm not suggesting that the Halloween Party should only occur on October 31st or that the Christmas Party should only be on December 25th. But having a holiday party more than two months away from the holiday is, IMHO, stretching it too far.

Tonight... holy hell. Some observations and notes from tonight's event. Firstly as the event went on, it just got worse and worse.

From the entertainment side, Hocus Pocus and Boo-to-you both had flawless first performances. For the Cavader Dans, they were top notch at 7:15 (unsure of others). The headless horseman showed up for the first Boo-to-you. Hallowishes had no issues however they didn't have play the exit music, and just cut back to the background music right afterwards. The second showing of Hocus Pocus ended right after "Friends from the other side" due to rain that came in and started to pickup. From there they delayed Boo-to-you and didn't have as noted above zootopia party patrol nor the hitchhiking ghosts (I didnt see the zootopica party patrol for the first boo-to-you from the hub at all). However they had to hold in the hub/Main Street as a parade float broke down during the second boo-to-you. The final performance of Hocus Pocus was delayed by five minutes and was nearly flawless, but halfway though, Winnie's microphone died, so she proceeded to finish the show with a handheld microphone. Secondly they had issues with some of the pyro during it as well.

Notes:
The background music in the hub has been changed this year. Secondly this was the second first night (last year) that I've gone too, however they didn't have areas setup for Executives to see the shows. Additionally inside cosmic rays (bay one) was used as a trick or treat area. Hocus Pocus has gotten a revision, Sara now has one more verse to her siren song repeating "here in my garden of magic." It was also cool, seeing the pyro techs load up on the castle. Those on the ground saw the bright red lights that did get put out when they were working, think someone told them that we can see them.

That's all from me for now. It was rather interesting to see Winnie use a handheld microphone though.

Sounds like the only reason it got worse is weather.

Not the first time. Since they started HPVS, Hallowishes has been without exit music. Weird, jarring, but I guess they only want ONE person "putting a spell on us."

"Fall" has several definitions since it is used in different ways. So, yes, the astronomical seasons are based on the solstices and equinoxes, but the temperature peaks and averages lag behind. People feel the temperature, they don't feel an equinox.

Then you have the human social order adjusting to seasonal changes. The equinox may not be until Sept 20, but for all the families with school children, fall is when school starts after the summer break... the fall semester often begins in late August. Business that deal with vacationers often regard Memorial Day weekend the beginning of summer and Labor Day weekend the beginning of fall.

Then you have different latitudes and elevations experiencing season (as in weather) changes at different times. Northern New England and the Rockies are already experience leaves changing. For them, fall, the weather season, is already here.

A New Englander visiting WDW now would not regard fall colors to be out of place.
Damn Leafers.

"Hot Mess". I believe it. To trudge around MK in the hot August humid heat. Yuck.

Well you know the story, even with something out of Disney's control like weather, it's a unmitigated failure.
Yes, because that's exactly what I said from my long post about that happened to mention the weather. It's rather amazing for a parade float to break down after it rains, and for someone's microphone pack to die. Things like microphones dying in the middle of performances are rather rare but given the fact that the second show was ended abruptly, would have permitted for the battery to maintain more of a charge than what it did. You also had those on twitter saying that "Walt Disney World may need to adjust entertainment hours at #MNSSHP 2nd parade causes severe back up of guest leaving at the end of the night" (https://twitter.com/MickeyXtreme/status/901562483261014016), which I can add into that given the times of the boats and monorails with the event (Which fun fact, on event nights the express monorail closes a half hour after the event ends and a half hour before the resort side ends. Which their transportation can be another issue in itself.) I also had CM friends tell me that it was also horrible last night and that they were shocked. Especially with the meet and greets. But to each their own. It's just amazing to see a nicely put together event last year and this year it being a bit haphazard.
