The other day my son said , "Mom, where is Disney Hollywood Studios at?" I replied, "Florida". And he said, "I really want to go there I was just watching a video about it and they have this really cool ride called The Great Movie ride." o_O
I remember my disappointment when little me found out that journey into imagination and wonders of life were no longer things. This will be your son's first let down by disney experience lol.

Exactly. General guests will accept anything Disney plops into their laps. They could build an emoji ride and lines would be hours long.

See above.

You just reiterated why general guests and their opinions are of no concern to me. The guests don’t know what they want until Disney tells them what Disney wants. General guests don’t know any better. The only thing general guests get into is their wallets and their walking shoes to wait in four hour lines.

Disney: Hey, magical friends! Would you be interested in a Burger King in the parks?

General guests: YES!

Disney: Hey, princess! Would you be interested in a Futurama ride in the parks?

General guests: Why, yes! We would!

Disney: Hey, folks! Would you be interested in spinning benches on Main Street?

General guests: Do tell!
This is SO TRUE. Louder for those in the back!

Yeah, just like they accepted Ellen's Energy Adventure and filled that up!

been a grave concern of mine for quite some time considering, if combined with short-sighted and timid leadership, it results in decisions catering to the lcd

a more demanding audience or executives allowing themselves to invest in creative courage... one or the other

ability to not see every. damn. thing. attached to immediate roi would be a start

but that's what giant conglomerates do

c'est la vie

Not disagreeing with this line of thinking in principle, but record attendance and strong revenue proves that Disney is mostly running its theme park sector in a manner that the public is responding positively to. The bottom line is the only thing Iger, the BOD, and Wall Street cares about. This is why public opinion is literally the only thing that matters as it determines the direction the parks are taking now and into the future.

I believe fall 2019 is the current target. The WDW thread may have more info.

Thank you! Actually a minute after I posted here I went to the WDW board and read the thread lol. They are saying the same thing, late summer/early fall. I hope it opens BEFORE GE opens there though but I can't imagine Disney opening both this and SWL the same time.

I have said this in other places but my family seems to love everything they are doing because what gets them excited is stuff they already know. They don't have APs (well one or two did in the past) and they don't ever read Disney message boards. I'm the Disney nut in the family, everyone else are very casual fans. As far as most are concerned Disney is doing everything right in terms of attractions. My nephew is 8, he won't stop talking about Pixar Pier since he saw the commercial for it.

Disney has figured out a way to tap into their audience base that keeps them successful. If that wasn't the case there would be thread after thread of how dead the parks are. Its the complete opposite for that reason.

Transformers as in good transformers of bayformers.
Pretty sure disneyland falls into the good transformers category and not the bayformers one since most of it is still classic.
I should've said Pixar Pier (and other recent changes). They're commercial successes with the only critical support coming from those who fear saying something negative will mean they won't be invited back for the next press preview.

well, chasing trends can become a costly fool's errand...
considering it's close proximity, defense presents dca as exhibit a

in the macro, does such a course engender as much lasting passion?
not generally - but, twdc is 'something else'... long as it remains that way, it's plausible.

and i get it...
the company used to have a total genius at the top seeding absolute masters - that's dwindled and the monopoly squandered in an age when the general media landscape is murky at best.

yet, does the reaction lean apple/jobs passion-infused executive mastery or forthright/BnL roi-only corporate shenanigans?
... because that wouldn't have mattered one bit to the general public fictionalized in wall-e; which, to me, is good enough reason to remain aware and :cautious:

If that's the case then they will shift gears if and when the time comes. To me theme parks should just naturally change with the times anyway. The problem with DL is after a few years people get so attached to something they don't want to change it even if its for the better. Now I will say changing TOT for GOTG was NOT for the better IMO. That said, clearly it was a good idea to change it because the ride is immensely more popular now because of it. I can tell you no one in my family misses TOT after riding GOTG. Maybe in ten years that ride will become old hat and wait levels drop to 10 mins. If and when that is the case then they should change it.

A lot of people are upset that The movie ride is being replaced by Mickey's runaway railway (to sort of get it back on topic). I'm not and The Movie ride was probably one of my favorite rides in that park easily. But that place needs to grow and most people under 30 don't care about those movies presented in the ride. Its also not as popular as it use to be. So as long as the railway ride is equal or better then it was a smart decision to do. Not every ride needs to stick around until the end of time.

So what do you think has been changed for the better in the last few years besides Condor Flats to Grizzly Peak Airfield? I can’t think of anything else.

-Grizzly Peak airfield for sure!

-Luigi's Roadsters for Luigi's tires (but the tires sucked IMO).

-GOTG for TOT (yes I know this is more controversial for some but GOTG is a really fun and repeatable ride, hence the long waits)

The only one for *me* that I think is worse is Soain Over the World. And I LIKE it but the California one is better and obviously fit the park more.

But outside of Pixar Pier (which I haven't seen yet) what other big changes have their been in the last five years? And even with all the changes people seem to not like here, which I understand, but all those changes have seen to only make those rides more popular. Maybe they will wear off but I kept hearing how GOTG was going to be a total dud and it was going to drop to low wait times after a few months. According to the app that ride current wait time is 60 mins and that's on the lower end for this ride.
