You would think that they tore out some wonderful (not to be missed) monument to Mexican culture to put in some Donand Duck ride? It was a silly little ride to begin with and actually after seeing the video clip think they, perhaps, made the attraction a little better? I really think there was no harm done with the update.

I feel sorry for anyone that would consider this ride to be offensive to Mexicans in any way. At least the new version is somewhat entertaining. The old ride was not good.

Withhold your criticism until after you let your children ride this attraction; ask them what they think. It seemed a fun and entertaining presentation to me. (You know, it can't be all fun for the adults at WDW <sarcasm intended>) I'm an old guy and I liked it just fine.

The new ride looks OK, but as far as bashing the concept, I really strongly disagree. I need to really need to say that these three caballeros were meants to support Intra-American relations, and they are the perfect fit! Like the old Rio was so culturally relevant that we need to be up in arms about Donald making an appearance.

I am furious that they took the old 80's style Mayan dancers from the begining of the attraction. They portrayed the true to life idea that Mexico is full of people in flourecent Mayan garb wandering the streets........oh sorry.........thought this was the rediculously pointless rant thread again.

I saw a bunch of people wondering the streets of Mexico in Flourecent Mayan garb but then again I had a full conversation with a Cactus as well only after eating the worm on the bottom of the bottle of Mascal.:dazzle:

Obviously, some people are responding to this thread who have never experienced Mexico. The Mayan "garb" was from the past of course--it's the "river of time" remember? But when I was in Mexico there were tons of festivals and lots of people in Mayan "garb". I think people get on this board when they are feeling mean sometimes just to get out some frustrations. Everyone's opinion is important and valid. But to make fun or "/sarcasm" is just plain uncalled for.

Go to a Mexican city sometime (not a tourist town) and see how many parades, dances, and festivals you see in a week. While the videos were dated the premise of the ride did show Mexico at its finest.

I know what Mayans were, but whose the Donald Duck person and whys he holding a party in Mexico? Donalds a Scots name so whts he not in the UK, is the Rose and Crown shut or has he been barred for tossing his caber again.
Yes he has! He started taking his whiskey neat one day at the stroke of noon. About three hours later out comes the caber. I have to say I was impressed with it's size, but it did do substantial damage to the roof. I'm a Native American also beachclubbasics. This place was still a British Colony when my family moved here from England, Scotland, Ireland, and Wales. So I know just how you feel about Pocahontas. I feel the exact same way about Elmer Fudd! Folks it's just a simple little relaxing ride for your enjoyment. It's not there to make an earth shattering statement reguarding the culture of Mexico.

Ahhhh..yes, and to go along with an "educational" ride, let's just hop over to the wonderful boat ride of --- Maelstrom. It showcases Norway in very life like wonder. Trolls, white polar bears standing up over your boat, trolls, trees with eyes, trolls, mythology, trolls, and did I mention TROLLS. Gosh, if the new update to the ride, "ruined" Mexico for ya - how did you ever stand to go NEAR Norway. :ROFLOL: :p

I say, just be happy it's been updated! And be glad it wasn't an update with a PIXAR character. OH wait - did i say that out loud?!?!?!:hammer:

Obviously some people responding to this thread don't know sarcasm when they see it.

I have experienced Mexico numeros times and I have never seen anyone in FLOURECENT mayan garb. The only reason I made the post you are referring to and the one prior to that, is the fact that someone is calling an attraction ruined simply because they added some animated characters to it to increase turnstile numbers and bring more people into the pavillion and its just silly. It is a positive thing no matter how you look at it, prior to the refurb you would be lucky to have someone riding in the boat with you if you went on the attraction, it was stuck in a 1980's time warp and was screaming for an upgrade. Now, looking at the videos, it actually has a line and still shows the finer points of mexican culture, while adding a fun spin to it via the Three Cabileros. The point of the attraction/pavillion is to bring more attention to Mexico and generate more business for the Mexican tourism board, which the refurb has done better than the old ride has in the past decade.

By making my sarcastic comments (which weren't acutal complaints:rolleyes:) I was simply implying that to say the attraction is ruined is just silly. It implies it was a smash hit of an attraction before the refurb and it now has zero appeal, when in fact the opposite has happened. Stating ones opinion is one thing, but to outright make a bold statement such as the OP goes beyond that. :brick:

You mean that I'm going to have to ride with OTHER PEOPLE now? There goes my afternoon "let's ride this ride 5 times in a row because it's hot outside and cool in there" respite.

And I'm going to have to stand in line...don't now if I can manage that...lol

I'll admit that I'm not impressed with the ride after seeing the video...though I will also admit it's probably no worse than the old version. Personally, didn't find the old version to be that bad. Maybe I had higher expectations than most people....I expected something a bit more than what we got.

I have been told that the video doesn't do the attraction justice..you have to see it.

I'll hold my final impression of the ride until I actually go on the attraction.

What about paying some kind of attention to the Mayan culture? One of the most advanced civilizations on the planet for it's time. All I am saying is that world showcase is about education and entertainment and I do not find Donald Duck in a Mayan temple entertaining or educational. If you really want to teach people about different cultures, a mariachi band and three birds is not really going to do it. If Epcot wants to change it theme from edu/tainment to Magic Kingom Part 2, then so be it. Remember...THEY are the ones who decided to make the park educational to begin with so of course, thats what we expect when we go there, right? Or were they lying? Or did they change their minds? Maybe not enough money was generated from the educational guests...they must make much more money from toddlers and teenagers. Those of us who have a problem with it will certainly be free to watch old videos from our couches, which is what I will be doing. Believe me, I do not need to sit through it in person to see how awful the remake is, I saw quite enough from the video. I just think with some better planning and ideas they could have used their resources and come up with something a little smarter than dumping charactors from a 50 year old movie into the existing scenery. Lets give a bit more credit to the people of Mexico instead of treating them as only background extras in a Donald Duck film......

Wow?!? this is my first post on this board. I'm just glad I'm not Prince Andy.

Welcome to the boards! Anyway, this pavillion has been given new life and an attracton that sells Mexico better than the old one did. This is now the best pavillion in the WS.
