I spoke to Debbie via phone for over 2 hours late last night into this wee hours. She is ok and her house is intact. She has no means to make money to purchase gas, etc. She has a couple of generators that they have been running and the electric has been sporadic coming on. It is nearly impossible for her to make phone calls. She was able to reach my toll free line though. You cannot get through to her though.
I called a relative on my other line to relay messages between the two. Her relative was frantic because she had not heard from her husband. Well Deb called early this morning to let me know that a cop friend of the family had to break the door down to his house and found him unconcious.(sp?) I am praying that he will make it.
She is going into Jefferson Parish with some family members (mostly men) to try to get supplies to family. They will be carrying guns since the looting is so out of control that she hears distant gun shots on a daily basis. While on the phone with her last night I could hear sirens in the background. She said that it is non-stop.
She also told me that the helicoptors going over her house has been unbelievable. The section where she lives did not get the great amount of water damage that some sections did. I do have a client who cannot go home because her house is under 20 feet of water.
She is in good spirits and is trying to help her relatives that are not so fortunate. She will have quite a few of them coming to stay with her. She had no money coming in and it is going to be tough for her to take care of such a large amount of people. She is a wonderful, loving person with a big heart. My heart goes out to her in this horrific time in her life as well as my prayers.
I told her that we were all very worried about her and that we will do anything to help her.
She is very thankful for the prayers and good thoughts from everyone on here and has asked me to tell you all so.
She will try to put together a post with what she has been going through on here when she can. Once her electricity comes on for good, she will do it and you will all hear the rest of what I did. I will not post the horrors, that is up to Deb if she wants to do it.
Please keep her in your prayers and I pray that Deb and her family make it to Jefferson Parish safely and return the same way.
The Mom- call or e-mail me.
