My DH grew up with artificial trees because his dad was a firefighter and had been to too many house fires caused by dried out trees; so this will be my 21st year with an artificial one. A few years ago we invested in a beautiful one...it looks better than some of the real ones I've seen lately. I think they have the advantage over the real ones...can be put up & taken down whenever you get around to it, no need to worry about it getting too dry and no falling needles to worry about. There are so many beautiful ones out there, some even come with the light already on them.(:sohappy: ) I say go for it!

My father was a volunteer fireman, so I never remembered having a real tree. When we moved into our house, we got a real one that first Christmas. I think he let us turn the lights on for an hour on Christmas day  After that, it was artifical all the way. We got this one 2 or 3 years ago. I call it Treezilla2. Its relatively easy to assemble and store in the attic, but Treezilla1 took me an entire day to assemble! It had 50,000 branches that had to be attached individually...ahhh..what a nightmare!!

Jer, I have a few of my Christmas 2000 pics in my photo album right now. My puter was too slow last night to let me upload more. I will put some from last year in there though, hopefully tomorrow :)

I'm going to go out on a limb here and date myself, but does anyone else remember artificial aluminum Christmas trees? Complete with a color wheel that automatically turned and changed the whole tree into a truly lurid orange/blue/green/red?

Those were the days, huh?

I don't remember the color wheel, but the nursing home that I once worked at had a Pink one.:hurl:
It was decorated with horrible bows and a very embarassed angel on top.

I remember them, although we never had one. I'm also old enough to remember the introduction of mini-lights.

I remember these from when I was a kid! I used to beg my mother to get one of the cool silver trees with the wheel

I did however have a little white tree in my bedroom. It had blue lights on it and blue ornaments. I have NO idea why I wanted a white tree with blue ornaments, but I had it. Hey, it was the 70s, ya know?

My "first" Christmas tree (in my first apartment) had only blue and green ornaments, tinsel, garlands, and lights. I even wrapped all of the gifts in blue and green paper! I still have some of those ornaments put away somewhere.

Yes, it WAS the 70s.

Then I went through a wooden ornament, clear lights, and lots of tiny red bows in the 80s.

I switched to white, silver, and gold with peach and light blue accents in the early 90s, and have stuck there (with slight variations) ever since. What can I say? It matches the rug and curtains. ;)

We would always use the glass ornaments (some which Christopher Radko is now reporducing  ) with lights and garland and that was that. THEN my mothers cousin gave her a Hallmark ornament and you guessed it...Hallmark, nothing but Hallmark all around the tree. I was finally able to talk her into using the glass ornaments again last year by pointing out that they were 'in' right now :lookaroun

I think bows were REALLY 'in' in the 80s...not only on Christmas trees! I used to wear GIGANTIC ones on barettes in my hair. Im shuddering at the thought right now

Btw, we have your sig line hanging on the wall here in the office...its our new mantra!

Yep, we went (briefly, thank God) through the bow stage ourselves! (In my hair, too!)

Our Christmas trees have always reflected our kids' ages...you know, satin ornaments when they were toddlers, the wooden and paper ornaments they made in elementary school (still our most cherished ornaments!), glass as they got older...Nowadays, we also have to decorate the tree around what the pets can and can't have! No satin ornaments - the cats LOVE to unravel those - no tinsel - the dog barfs it up - glass ornaments up high, unbreakable ones down low, to allow for pet Ornament Hockey...

Vince, pass those chocolates over here!

We have 2 Christmas trees.
1 artificial one downstairs that has all the old Christmas ornaments that we made in kindergarten out of popsicle sticks and pipe cleaners. It's the "cute" tree.
Then we get a real tree and put it upstairs. That's the one that we decorate in a beautiful Victorian Christmas theme.

I put up my Dept 56 Christmas Village, pulled out by Christmas CDs and watched "The Santa Clause 2" last weekend. I'm ready for Christmas!!!

Vince, you reminded me of another Christmas tradition! :) I have a friend who I've known since 5th grade. However, we haven't lived in the same state since then, although up through HS she only lived 2 hours away, so we did see each other. She and her family have lived in Michigan since 1974.

We exchange candy every Christmas, and make a game of finding new and different varieties. We're both Chocoholics, so chocolates are frequently featured. My husband's stepmother also sends us Italian cookies and candies from Termini Brothers in Philadelphia every year.

I found one of those bows in my drawer the other day!

I also have a couple of boxes of really old glass ornaments which I haven't used in almost 30 years. I hope one of the kids will want them someday. I have at least a dozen boxes of "extra" ornaments, garlands, etc stored away for the day my children set up housekeeping, and raid my closet.

I put up the Snow Village, but does anyone here have the Walt Disney World series by Dept 56? I bought it a few years ago (it was half price) at a local Christmas shop (cant find 2 houses though! argh!!) and used to put it up each year, but as the Snow Village grew, it squeezed stuff out, and I havent put that one up in a few years now. Maybe this year :xmas:

I have the New England Village Series and it has grown and grown and GROWN! I know it's Christmas when I see the lights peeking through all those little windows. I really have a good time putting that up every year. It's taking it all down and putting it away in January that is such a chore!
I do have 1 piece of the Disney Parks Village Series - Mickey's Christmas Carol. I also have 1 accessory - the Disney Parks Family. I do see pieces of the DPV series come up on Ebay every once in awhile. Give that a try and see if you can find the 2 pieces you're looking for. Which ones are you missing?
