There would always be stupid guests...but I never really let it get to me. It always made for great stories with friends. But I would always try and remember the guests that I made happier in the day rather than those who yell at me.

I miss it :(

I've certainly run into more than one, but it's not the vast majority. That's why the bad ones stand out like a sore thumb and, in my opinion, should be weeded out.

Could not have said it better myself. There does however seem to be an increasing number (of rude cast members)

I simply believe that Disney has a high standard of behavior of CM's that should be followed at all times or they should be let go. this is the way it was set up by Walt and still should be done - I do not care how a guest acts, it is never right for a cm to engage in rude behavior. it simply should not be tolerated - the whole " nobody is going to talk to me like that" mentality is one of the biggest problems with society today and I see it growing at WDW. If you cannot handle yourself in the way the Disney requires then DO NOT WORK THERE!!!!

Exactly! I think a lot of people (many of them kids as Timmay pointed out) take a job at Disney because they think it is just going to be all fun and magic. They don't consider that they're going to have to actually work too, and part of that work includes dealing with difficult guests. You can't just pick the parts of your job that you like and refuse to do the rest. If you can't perform ALL of what's expected of you, you are not cut out for that type of work.

Agreed. Unfortunatley it is not just the younger cm's - I have encountered a few older cm's that just are not behaving as they should. In fact the cm in my previous posting was an older lady. I do see it more with teh younger ones though.

Oh, this is pricless...

Children that run around (which is what a child does, by the way...good luck in all your parenting endeavors...LOL) are now "brats".

Please, will a CM with some God given sense speak up over the ones that think kids just being kids are "brats" and the only guests that are liked are the ones that give them "goodies" .

You know darn well that the term was not used in that way, and does not indicate "normal childrens behavior". It IS normal for children to cry and fuss and have tantrums when their parents have had them out in the park for 10+ hours straight, it is normal for a child to fixate on one thing, or just want to go swimming all day.

I've raised three children, so I do know the wide range of behavior.

It is not expectation that they all be Stepford children as you are smugly inferring. It is also not normal that they are allowed to run through a restaurant, take things off other tables, throw things at or hit characters, scream curses, destroy displays and the like while parents, in fear of these children, do nothing and never apologize.

Every visit I see reinactments of Nanny 911 (or whatever that show is...) We are not talking "normal" childrens behavior here...so don't trivialize the CM's reaction to it. There are plenty of other threads on just this subject.

Nice to see your positive attitude.

Being in customer service is a challenging position. You will run into all kinds of people with varying amounts of manners. I would hope that the vast majority of guests are nice, but I'm sure there are jerks that must be dealt with. Hopefully, the CMs will not allow the rude ones to jade them and affect their ability to relish the good times they bring to all the guests they encounter.

One of the things that makes something "normal" is if it's something you see fairly commonly. You state that you see this on "every visit". So maybe it IS normal and CMs should realize that rather than whine about it.

I agree with you but how does Disney expect a CM not to get angry/upset when there are guests that will physically abuse you?! There is no reason for a guest to ever shove a CM esp over a Fastpass return time (never try to enter early with me...esp when you come 2 hours early) Then there are the guests that will stand in front you yelling at you becuase you will not let them into the Fastpass line because they are in a wheelchair. Many times they just rent the wheelchair to cut lines. You explain the GAC cards and that all lines in TLAND can accomidate wheelchairs. Yet they stand there and still yell at you. Or when a guest tells you to F off because they dont have their braclet for EMH...or a guest calling you a F*g is a bit much to handle.

I dont want to make it sound like it was hell there! I loved it! I loved going to work everyday (though EMH can really just die) I always loved taking familes on Buzz after they walked out of meeting Buzz in the Timekeeper lobby.

Yes many of the lifers do complain all the time in the breakroom. But as soon as they go on stage they are model CMs.

Well, not to bring up another dreaded subject, but sounds to me like some Unions have really bad representation. I have a feeling that the Unions are the ones to be blamed in this instance. If they are not looking out for their members, then who will. If the Union was not involved, then Disney would be more inclined to actually investigate the matter before turning on their employee.

Actually, it's more a matter of what the unions are ALLOWED to do. I was able to get union representation in one case (when Disney security and Disney K-9 had to be called in, and Orange County on standby...BECAUSE OF THE GUESTS!) because I'm friends with...*counts on her fingers* 4 stewards. Thankfully, it didn't come to the point of NEEDING them to represent me. (Eventually, enough people came forward and sided with me)

Otherwise, unless you're in the union, and/or you're full time, even if the union tries to represent you, you get shot down.

this is also Florida... where Unions serve no point other than wasted effort most of the time. If the Union strikes, Disney can easily put an ad in the paper for 55k new positions... you'll see how quickly the CM's will scab.

On behalf of most WDW guests, that's all we're really asking!

Another thing to consider is that if any of the "bad CMs" you've encountered are college students, they probably are tired and irritated. They give us bad hours (try being scheduled 64.4 hours in one week in your first week on your own), they give us LONG hours (15 hour days). Sometimes, we don't get home until 4 am FROM WORK. And then they skimp us on turnaround by 12 minutes.
We also get paid very little. Standard CPs get $6.25/hour, performance CMs ("friends with" CMs) get $6.40/hour, and Quick Service food and beverage get $6.75/hour. Then, before we even see the money, we have $71-81 a week taken out of our paychecks. We also have taxes taken out. And then groceries. By the end of that paycheck, all that money that we've earned...ends up being about $50-$75

And you wonder why we're bitter. But don't get me wrong- I love my job. I really do. It's just that Disney really doesn't treat CPs well, and doesn't pay them well. But if you find a CP that loves their job, you're going to see that they have high aspirations within the company (I want to be the president of one of the parks...And Al Weiss started as custodial...so maybe I could do that...you never know!)

Al Weiss understands basic business concepts. That's how he got to his position. I highly doubt he spent his time as a "martyr" complaining and whining all the time about how horrible he was treated by the company and it's guests...and then turned around and said, "But don't get me wrong. I love my job". :brick:

I do agree that they do treat their CPs like :hurl:

many of us do try our best but when we dont get ANY respect from the full timers its a lil hard to keep trying. Now Im not saying they i didnt become close to alot of the full timers but there were some that would refer to us all as stupid CP. To many of them CP is almost a four letter word. IS it wrong that I never learned all my managers name!?
Vista Way is not worth the money that they make (made) us pay each week... $69 a week (3 bedroom...6 CM) is a bit much.

But that wont keep me from doing the Alumni next summer or working a few shifts over winter break!!!

Seriously, if I start off in the group of CMs that every other CM looks down on, and work my way up...why can't I do it? I'll understand what it's like to be in the shoes of the "scrubs", up to being a manager.

I am the exact way. When i went down for my CP i was an Theatre Design/Tech major but then I realized that I truely love working in the parks (my previous jobs all required running a ride...Geauga Lake Amusement Park and a Mall Carousel)

So while i was there I dropped my major. Now that I have returned to school I am planning to major in Human Resource Management so I can return to Disney with hopes of being a manger (one that can actually learn the CMs names in the area)
