I have never had a real problem with any cm. But after reading this entire thread, I think I will never look at them the same way. I will be looking for signs of their utter dislike of me, and this will inevitably cause me to treat them differently. I may even be LOOKING for things to be confrontational about.

Thanx for opening my eyes.

For the record, I wasn't saying that ALL the guests that have to save up every little bit to stay in a deluxe resort are nasty. I was saying that the ones that have been the RUDEST to me have been, and they fling it at me or my co-CM like it's some kind of justification for their actions.
I think it's admirable that people will save all they can to get the best experience possible. But the largest problem I've ever had (and I am not exaggerating) was when parents were filming their children being exceptionally rude to me, egging them on, and two CMs from another department, a coordinator and a MANAGER had to speak to them. Their justification at first was that they didn't speak English. Once it was established that yes, they could speak English, they then said that "they had every right to film their family experience, it doesn't matter what happens." Oh, it does matter. Their film was confiscated, and they were escorted out of the resort they were staying in (Polynesian), AFTER they had paid, without compensation. Because it's not right to punch someone in their back repeatedly, now is it?

That's exactly what this thread has done to me.

Why?

There's defending yourself when someone's mean to you and there's looking for a fight...why bother even going to WDW or DL then...just to pick a fight with a CM?

Why not stay home and pick on the paper carrier or the grocery bagger?

I have worked retail as well for over 12 years in the same place, and in some cases customers think you are mind readers, for instance, I bought a printer here last year so you should know what ink it uses. ??? But the ultimate was when I was working and this woman was walking down the isle I had my back to her, she started to snap her fingers at me, I turned around and looked at her we were about 20 feet apart. I left the isle without saying anything, when she caught up to me she stated that I was rude in not responding to her. I smiled at her and stated that I do not respond to a snapping finger and that it is rude to do that to anybody reguardless of their position, I also said that I would be more than happy to assist her when I finished with the customer that had ASKED for help before her, it would be just a few moments. She waited for me even though others in my dept. had asked her if she needed help. When I got to her which wasn't too long I asked her how I could help she apologized right away and there was no problem after that. Basic and simple I don't care who you are do NOT snap your fingers at me, I am not a personal servant to anybody. And to any customer that gets irate all I do is smile and help as though nothing happened. To any and everybody, treat others the way you wish to be treated, and you will get the best service:animwink:

A quick note for anyone feeling disillusioned:

WDWMagic.com is neither owned nor operated by the Walt Disney Company.

It serves as a functional resource for Disney information however, with none of the muckety-muck that keeps the official Disney World site being anything but pretty (in fact, that website is fairly useless).

The truth aint pretty. If you're here, you're probably seeking the truth. Just accept it and move on - Oz wasn't such a wonderful place when you pulled back the curtain either.

Some folks appreciate really seeing how the world works - others get all huffy and offended. I really don't see how the truth can be offensive as it's not like something suddenly changed, rather just how you know it works.

So, everyone who wants to be offended and such: there is an official Disney World website. I reccomend it if you don't like reality. The information there will not be accurate, and will often be misleading, but it will be fluffy and typically tell you what you want to hear.

For the rest of us, lets remain civil and not resort to personal attacks or anger toward CMs in the parks. Nothing has changed - just the way you know things to work. A show is a show. After the initial uncomfortability with the subject, you should gain a new appreciation for it - hopefully.

That type of reaction surprises me. If you let some internet chat that started as a few CM's discussing physical abuse in a job they otherwise enjoy that has degenerated into taunting and name calling has forever changed your perception of Disney, you may have bigger things to worry about.

Heaven forbid, don't read the newspaper or watch shows like 60 Minutes or 20/20. No doctor is competent, no restaurant is sanitary, no school is of value, no cop is good, and no home is safe.

Just go, enjoy yourself, do the things you like, enjoy the shows and take the time to interact with CM's. I have no doubt the magic will be restored.

now that we know how to feel..........i would love to see one of the opionated, guest hating CMs posting here put your name on some of this crap since your jobs are so miserable anyway....now wouldn't that be reality??

Because you want to threaten their jobs right Marijil?

Wont work - Disney knows what their CMs do and has no control of them in their free time.

PS: I think it's real mature to attack someone at their job because you don't like them on a personal level.

:D Sorry, in my low tiraid I forgot to mention that in 10 visits in 8 years we have never had a bad incounter with any CM, although I have come close to screaming at some very unruly so called guests, who were very rude to CM, hats off to you people, you truely keep the magic for my family and I every time we are there. You live up to the greedo, "You are not a customer but our guest". I guess that's why we keep going back. And we will in November.:sohappy:

sorry Merf, but I personally know of some CM's who were disciplined for their postings on public internet message boards... some of them were even terminated.

Trying to get someone fired because you don't like what they say - as it clashes with your dellusions - is attacking them at their job for a personal dispute.

You know what? You made a very good point. Thank you. I'm not going to let a few rotten apples spoil my Disney.

I deal with the public enough and we go to WDW every year and I seriously can't believe the garbage that a lot of the CM's have to put up with.

In general, a lot of people are less accommodating, more demanding, and just plain rude...not just to CM's but other guests.

There is at least one time on every trip that I have had to ask a guest to back off and stop being unreasonable to a CM. Does this work...not generally but at least it gives the CM a couple of minutes to collect his or her thoughts. Each time, I've been thanked by the CM. There have been also a number of occasions where I've been super nice to a CM after them tending to a jerk before me and even apologized that they had to go through that. Each time I've gotten a smile and a thank you from the CM.

People have forgotten (if they ever knew it) common decency and how to be polite to people. Seriously...during the day, in your everyday life, how many times do you hear please and thank you? Think about it...it's becoming more rare...more rare than it should be.
:sohappy: Good Post. And I think that's the point the OP was trying to make. I used to be a CP and I've both experienced and witnessed the garbage that CMs have to put up with. It was the guests like you that always made my day a little better.

Of all people, you should know of the inconsistencies with Disney management enforcing company policies/creating rules on the spot to suit their needs.
