My family has a vacation planned for September and well I am pretty sure masks will be required then so guess what I will be wearing one. I don't see me having a problem with it or really most of my family except maybe my 8 year old little sister from time to time might get a little cranky with it. Me and my sisters are getting all the guidelines from my mom and dad as they come in and when we go we are all going to be troopers and have fun and enjoy ourselfs like we do every time we go to WDW.

I think that 1. The reasons people aren’t going on here 2. The reasons some are complaining are ‘unreasonable’ and 3. The holes in WDW’s plans that either people want to challenge or frankly, exploit, all add up to me just preferring to wait. The heat outside while simultaneously dealing with a mask, how WDW expects to maintain distancing (and how that may be impossible) and how you’ll likely have kids (and adults) fidgeting and not wearing masks correctly, not distancing, still touching way too much stuff around them.. it all seems too much right now, and frankly not worth the hassle.
I hope I’m wrong and it goes well, and maybe I get to change my mind at least by the time fall comes in Florida (around Halloween) but for now, sadly, it can wait.

I don't see this lasting long. The masks are security theater, just trying to make people feel like they have a little control. I'm from Massachusetts, one of the most effected areas in the country, and no one is wearing them and the cases are going down every day. I went to Lowes a few hours ago, and people have them hanging on their ears and under their noses, including employees.

Disney says they are required in the parks and not required in the pools? Does the virus know you're swimming? It's silly. We're allowed to take them off when eating and drinking...does the virus know that? This is laughable. I understand they are doing their best to make people feel safe, but that's the problem, it's all a placebo. If I walk by someone with their mask down because they are taking a sip from a drink, am I not exposed to potential infection?

What Disney should do is tell those at risk they should stay home for their own safety, but if they choose to come they should be cautious. Forcing everyone to wear a mask is a mistake. Maybe I'm just bitter because COVID destroyed my business and I have to move out of my place because I don't have a job in the foreseeable future and I'm just looking for a little good news coming out of my favorite place in the world.

They are a a public company and I understand they can make their own rules, but this one doesn't compute. People should go at their own risk. Plain and simple. It's certainly not stopping tens of thousands of protestors...lotta social distancing going on there...

I hate the phrase “security theater,” but the World Health Organization’s updated guidelines on masks actually listed making people feel like they can do something about the virus as one of the reasons supporting its recommendation to wear masks. I posted a more lengthy comment about this in the general coronavirus thread. There is scant evidence that wearing masks actually helps prevent transmission of the virus. The thinking is that it may help, it can’t hurt, and it’s not a big deal for people to wear them. I’m not on board with this thinking.

I’m the type of person who follows rules. We go to WDW at least twice a year. I know I will be uncomfortable wearing a mask, so we won’t visit while the requirement is in place. What concerns me is the number of people who just wear a mask around their neck and then say masks are not an issue. If people continue to go to WDW and just circumvent the rule, what incentive is there for Disney to change it?

I think people assume that because masks are so highly visible and so unusual and intrusive that they must be very effective. But the reports by experts in this area are not bearing this out.

100% appreciate your take. Hopefully it doesn't last long. I'm very uncomfortable wearing one (fogged glasses, trouble breathing, hot, etc), and I'm too stubborn to look past that and try to enjoy the parks.

I am also hoping that the mask thing is not something that is going to last for a very long time, but as it is something that is being used now I will abide by the rules until they are lifted. I have a WDW vacation planned at the end of this year into 2021 and if the masks are still something required at that time I will be sporting mine at the parks. The thing is when I am going it won't be the 90+ heat to deal with so that won't be a major issue. I guess wearing a mask is what it is and there will come a time when it will not be required.

I am going to follow the rules since I recently had a message deleted because I didn't specifically answer the question from the beginning of the thread. Yes, I will go if I have to wear a mask. Now, I have followed the rules and answered the question so I should not have my post deleted again.

I have avoided writing about masks for weeks. Here is the reality. Coughing into your sleeve is better than coughing into the open air. turning your head to cough is better than not turning your head. holding a piece of paper in front of you when you cough is better than not holding a piece of paper in front of you. Wearing a mask is better than not wearing a mask. This is not, as someone claimed a week or so ago, a matter of chemistry. It is a matter of physics. Are any of these effective, yes. Are they importantly effective, probably not. Coughing into your shirt or turning your head may be 0.0001 percent effective. Holding a piece of paper in front of you may be 0.002 percent effective. Wearing a mask may be 4 percent effective. In each case, doing it is More effective than NOT doing it. is it statistically significant, maybe, maybe not. That is all. You do what you can when you can. Does it stop the virus. Of course not. Does it reduce the total number of cases by some tiny percentage. Of course. Therefore, you do it.

As stated previously before it was deleted, my prediction is there will not be any enforcement once you get past the entrance. I was at Disney Springs last weekend and masks were required for entry. However, once inside it was clear there was no enforcement. I saw quite a few people not wearing masks and at one point even saw a group of young males pass 3 uniformed Orange Co. deputies and nothing was said to them. Additionally, unmasked guests walked past many cast members who did not say anything. This was both outdoors and inside World of Disney. These instances were not cases were someone was wearing the mask improperly. They did not have a mask visible at all.

We will see in a few weeks, but I don't expect this to last long.
Thanks for the report. Everyone is swimming in uncharted waters now, including Disney. Any new system or rules will take some time to settle in. In a few months we’ll probably have a much better idea of which safety rules will stay, which ones will be jettisoned, and how well the remaining rules will be enforced.

I'm waiting to see what will happen in the next few months. My trip is for October and if wearing a mask is mandatory then I will cancel. I have yet to find a mask that is comfortable to wear for any extended period of time. They rise up on my face and in my eyes so I am constantly pulling it back down out of my eyes. They are hot and uncomfortable.

I have ordered the Disney masks and anxiously wait to see how they feel and fit.

Yes, I'll wear a mask. I admit - I wore one for an hour and a half at a church service yesterday and I was constantly fiddling with it and unfogging my glasses. So there will be issues, no doubt. I'm glad there will be opportunities for taking it off for meals and "mask free zones".

I've been to Disney Springs a few times over the last few weeks. Wearing masks in Florida is a challenge, and with kids, a huge challenge. I think many will face difficulties spending an entire day in a mask during the Florida summer.

My feeling is that out of state tourists or internationals would be better to wait than to attempt a trip in the current conditions.

I think its great that if you don't mind the annoyances of the masks, you have the option to go to the parks.

Censorship at its finest. Deleted again by moderators. I wonder how an attorney would feel about First Amendment violations. I think I will ask. Maybe they would take up the case, or maybe my post can simply be restored.

And you have the option to not go if you don't like it. But there is no option to not wear the wear the mask at all times (other than the exceptions they already allow for eating and the mask free areas) and still go. You pay the ticket for admission. You abide by their rules.

All of this hemming and hawing is really just that: Masks will be worn and policy will be followed.

It's really quite simple. Until things normalize at Disney, everyone sacrifices for the greater good.

Let's be honest. Anyone who says they like wearing a mask is lying. Either you're going to wear the mask because you believe it's best for your personal health reasons or you're going to wear the mask because you'll follow the Disney rules if you want to visit the parks. Personally, I think a lot of it is going through the motions. But that's just me. But I'm not in defiance mode either. It's not like Disney has much of a choice. They have to open with precautions.
