Marvel's Fantastic Four

"With Matt Shakman boarding as director, Marvel Studios has now found its writers to deliver the new Fantastic Four pic. Sources tell Deadline that Jeff Kaplan and Ian Springer are on board to write the script for the film.

Insiders add the writing duo have actually been involved with the film for some time, even before Shakman was tapped as director, and have been outlining where this next series of films will fit into the Marvel Cinematic Universe alongside Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige. Kaplan, Springer and Shakman will now come together to align their visions for this project before Kaplan and Springer dive into writing the script. Feige is producing the pic."

"As for Kaplan and Springer, while new to the scene, the writing duo is one of the hotter screenwriters in town having sold a number of specs in the last year. One of those high-profile projects is the comedy Disaster Wedding at Warner Bros. which recently landed Palm Springs helmer Max Barbakow on to direct."

They'll definitely have to replace John Krasinski after what they did to him. I don't think that version can come back from being turned into silly string and a balloon.

Uses magic to kill the men quickly. Fist fights with the girls. Why is the writing like this?

Anyway, they're dumb to not keep John. He's a recognisable, well-liked actor. People will consider whomever they replace him with a down grade. Even if it is not.

That’s not really the deciding factor. I’m sure it’s up to Shakman, but we haven’t met the 616 Reed. It could be Krasinski. If he’s not interested in a huge commitment. They could still bring Krasinski back in Kang’s Dynasty or Secret Wars.

I know right? All powerful Wanda obliterates the men in seconds. But has a long drawn out fight with the women. It seems like Phase Bore just wanted to make the females look good. Dr. Strange wasn't even in the final battle with Wanda.

I don't think there's any coming back from it. I'd rather go with someone new and clean the slate. Rami Malek, Adrien Brody, whoever fits the bill.

Rami Malek, Cillian Murphy and Christoph Waltz would also be suitable choices for Doctor Doom. They all can play emotional and creepy characters, with a high level of intelligence.

Josh Friedman is reportedly set to to rewrite the script for Marvel Studios’ Fantastic Four.

"Marvel’s first family is getting a rewrite. Josh Friedman, who worked on Avatar: The Way of Water and developed Snowpiercer as a TNT television series, has been tapped to write the script for Marvel Studios’ Fantastic Four.

Matt Shakman, who was the key director behind Marvel series WandaVision, is on board to helm the feature that has a release date of Feb. 14, 2025 and is set to kick off “Phase 6” of its storytelling universe."

----

"Jeff Kaplan and Ian Springer were the previous writers on the project and Friedman’s hire signals a potential change in tone. Kaplan and Springer are neophyte scribes known for their comedy scripts. Among the works they have in development are the Rebel Wilson comedy K-Pop: Lost in America and Disaster Wedding, which has Palm Springs filmmaker Max Barbakow attached to direct."

Some Fantastic Four news in a new interview with Matt Shakman at Collider.

"As one would expect with a project of this size and scale, plus the Marvel of it all, concrete information is hard to uncover. On the casting front, Shakman noted that with the SAG strike ongoing, it was impossible to announce anything or put a timescale on it. However, he did add that he was very excited to share the news with fans and that there would be a plan in place to announce the casting as soon as the strike came to a successful conclusion for the actors."

------

I'm not asking you any spoiler-type things, but assuming the SAG strike gets resolved, is the hope to be filming early next year?

SHAKMAN: Yes, we are definitely gonna go in front of cameras next year. Probably the spring.

Are you London or Atlanta?

SHAKMAN: London. Pinewood.

What the???If they are going to go with someone older, then why not just go with Krisinski and be done with it?

So apparently this isn't an origin story. Not by a long shot.
