Marvel Land Discussion and Rumors

Until the park's message is clear and coherent once again, the gripes are 100% valid.

I know it isn't being embraced. I want it to be, however, as I like the theme and believe there's a lot to be done with it. Whether they change the name or not, I will continue to complain about them straying from the theme.

DHS is about to get name change, so DCA is likely not far behind. So that will be the end of that.

If some want to continue to complain about something that will never come back its their own energy to waste. I want the Peoplemover to come back, but yet I don't continuously complain they haven't done it. Why? Because its a waste of energy to complain about something that 1. Will almost certainly never happen and 2. I have no control over.

Of course your complaints are valid. Feel free. I complain about a lot of things Disney does. But the point I'm trying to make is Disney seems to be moving from California as the theme of DCA. That being the case, why does the word 'California' in the name of the park meant much of anything?

Themes aren't meant to change. At least not drastically. Changing Main Street USA to Asgard Ave. would make no sense but that's what we're seeing here.

Who said themes aren't meant to change? Who said they can't move in a different direction if they so chose. Disney wrote the rules on theming, one can assume they can continue to change and tweak those rules as they see fit.

I wouldn't be surprised if Disney decided to change the name of DHS to Disney Florida Adventures to poke fun at the fandom a bit. They have already been willing to do this with the Rocket statement in GotG about the thematic inconstancy of Disneyland being seen during the ride.

If themes are consistent, they have no reason to exist. If you can change a theme at any given moment, then why have one at all?

Themes are used to tell a story. If Disney decides to change that story then the themes will change along with it.

Certain themes will be consistent due to history such as Main St. But DCA is anything but historic. Its not even 20 years old. So if Disney chooses to change the theme of the park to tell a different story so be it. We are already seeing that with DHS, they are changing the park from a Studios themed park to something else, hence a name change.

Well when you turn the Disney blinders on, anything's possible ;)

Blinders can go both ways. The fandom is not the final arbiter of all things Disney, Disney is. Its their business and they can choose what they want to do with it. You can choose to not like, you can choose to question it, but in the end Disney will do what is in their best interest not the fandom.

Ah so if they changed Main Street USA to Mary Poppins' London Lane in 1964, it'd be ok, right?

The thing that interests me actually more than the proposed attractions, is how they're going to theme this land. In true Marvel fashion, the most likely solution is a New York street...in California.

I predict that the "C" in DCA is probably not long for this world.

If that is what they do, it sounds like its becoming a lot like Universal.

Disney is a business? Had no idea. Thank you for stating the obvious.

I'm out of this. Night all.

You just completely ignored what I stated about historic, so let me state it again:

Your argument that DCA isn't historic because it's not 20 years old. I'm saying if Main Street USA was rethemed when it was only 9 yrs old, it'd be ok according to your argument.

If Main St. was rethemed when it was 9, then Walt would have been the one doing it. And then everyone would have been ok with it.

And you completely missed the point again, this time about DHS. DHS is being rethemed from a Studios park to something else, hence a name change. So this idea of theming can't change is false. Just because its rare doesn't mean it can't or won't happen.

You and I are never going to agree, so lets just drop it. We just see things differently which is ok.

Anyways I'm done with this topic, good night.

Themes are laws that must be followed in designing theme parks. To change the theme because you want to tell a story that doesn't fit in any current land is the equivalent of a child making up the rules to a game as they go along to ensure they win.

My thing is if they do move away from the California theme what the hell would the theme be otherwise? None of the lands really correlate in anyway otherwise. I guess just "adventure" would be fine but that always felt lazy to me.

Unfortunately, "Bob Iger's IP Extravaganza" doesn't roll off the tongue that well.
