Well technically it has gone away from WDW...DL version was always the weaker one and i have warmed some to the idea now that more money is being freed up to improve theme....maybe GotG will get the original attraction we want, in WDW

From what I'm reading it hasn't gone away for WDW...yet. Anyway I'm from Los Angeles ( long time Disneyland fan and APer, never been to WDW) so I don't know DCA's as the weaker version, I only know it as Tower of Terror. A great attraction. And I would be sad go see it go for this terrible idea.

Just an update from a trusted source, but news from TDA is that DCA's ToT extreme makeover (Bob Iger IP Ego Edition) is now showing up on planning calendars, with the ride tentatively closing September 19th and reopening in May of 2017.

The bigger plans for the pre-show and some additional exterior work were agreed to by TDA and the closure will be longer now, instead of waiting until next January. The financial greenlight won't happen until July, purposely until after Shanghai opens.

The WDW version is still stuck in limbo for a list of operational and logistical reasons exclusive to the what was once an amazing vibrant and dynamic theme park and working studio, but is now a sad corpse where you can buy lots of Star Wars crap but not actually experience any ... well ... you know ... attractions.

Unbelievable. Yet more proof that current management really doesn't understand what made Disney theme parks great (hint - it wasn't the IPs!).

Also can't believe I'm actively ROOTING for inaction by TDO. But this really is an instance where there best thing they could do is sit on their hands and refuse to do anything.

Side note: even if I had rode WDWs version I doubt I would be ok with this because a superior version exists on the other side of the country.

Probably involving TDO's inability to part with money, more than story.
This, and operational/logistical issues makes me think they actually realized that they simply cannot take Tower down while the rest of the park is a mess. If they can't refurb Everest all these years due to capacity issues, they certainly can't touch Tower right now.

Shame that's what might save our ToT rather than the fact that it's arguably one of the best themed attractions ever created.

Are we sure that ToT:GotG is actually possible as a permant thing in Orlando? Or will the Guardians' 99% certain entrance into the MCU in 2018 (in Infinity War) make that against the contract?

Jim Hill believed that it would be against the contract come 2018, and that therefore, the overlay must be temporary in Orlando. But this was just his interpretation and hasn't been confirmed or backed up.

I know the language isn't clear. I don't mean to start another whole argument over it, I'm just wondering whether anything has been cleared up, since this topic is really too depressing and shuddering for me to closely follow. I really am hoping the contract forbids it. I really am.

It depends on what it takes for a character to be considered part of a character family. GotG already had a relationship with the Avengers in the comics, so if that wasn't enough to make them part of the Avengers family, being in a film with them might not be either.

This is a horrible idea- but they'd better make up for it by giving us a GREAT Marvel superheroes coaster... and entire land if they are going to mess with it at all. Still not happy, though.

True.

Whatever the case, I just hope ToT stays as-is. It is a great ride. It is the world's most famous drop ride. And for those reasons, it should not be changed.

As I've said before -- the DCA plan could actually make sense if it is part of a larger development of a Marvel land featuring the new GotG ride. That actually would have the potential to strengthen the overall theming of DCA. I personally don't think ToT in DCA is so sacrosanct that it should be considered untouchable for the right plans.

But if it is just an isolated GotG ride or they go with the Micechat reported plan where other Marvel stuff goes over where the Monsters Inc ride is, then it is just terrible.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not optimistic that this turns out well, but I just think it's conceivable that the final product is actually sensible.

I just figured they'd make that section completely pitch black and silent except for a single TV screen with the text "File Not Found" displayed...
Is the blue screen of death patented? if they really want to get scared, they should add that right before the drop instead of a "file not found".

While I love ToT, and I love Guardians, this seems like Frostrom all over again. Gutting a ride that is a fan favorite for an IP that is deserving its own, unique and immersive attraction. I get it, but I don't get it.

Part of me hates seeing ToT being gutted, part of me wants to see how far this boondoggle will go.

So... yeah.
I never imagined you were a bit of a maso chist Mr. Rybar!

I think you are wrong because the superior version is the WDW one. From the 4th dimension scene to the fact that ToT is nestled perfectly at the end of Sunset Blv. The WDW version is the definitive Tower of Terror in the states IMO. Now if we are talking tokyo I could maybe give you some credibility there.

My wording may have been a little confusing. What I meant to say was just because WDW has the superior version, it does not make losing "my TOT" ( DCA's version) any less painful. The fact that a superior version exists in Florida, that I only may get to ride 1-2 times in my lifetime if I'm lucky, doesn't soften the blow.
