Marvel Characters at Kings Island

They have apparently hosted these characters for quite a few years now. Princesses as well, although that is a different animal. But I was surprised how close the Idlewild princesses were to Disney in appearance.

Clearly Disney is licensing their princesses to other theme parks. o_O

As with the various lifestyler rackets in Orlando they won't enforce copyright protections
copyright enforcement is critical to any theme park/entertainment company. If they let some rights slip they can lose them forever. I doubt either Universal or Disney would ever let a theme park use their charachters without permission. They may not ask some for too much but they would not just let someone advertise they were using them without compensation. In fact if they did why would Universal pay for them? and not just use them for free?

Enforcement is important but is not a zero sum proposition. Ever see the cheap, wonky, off model game prizes of famous characters? Do you really think they are authorized? One can buy truckloads of them every November right down the street from Walt Disney World and Universal Orlando Resort.

Kings Island games are loaded with prizes like this.

They have all the popular Marvel and DC characters in banana form, this summer.

God, how did they know? I've always wanted my favorite superheroes in banana form.
Six flags great adventure in Jackson has lots of minions as prizes. I am sure they are legit. Prizes are not the same. They can buy them from lots of sources and it does not violate anyone's rights to them.

I think there is one thing we can say for certain, whatever way KI and Idlewild are using to not violate the contract doesn't apply to WDW, otherwise we would have seen Thor and Captain America meet and greets by now.

Yes we can all agree on that. I hope we all agree and drop this for now with the agreement on this.

Considering all I think they are using is relative anonymity, yeah.

Seriously, 8 pages arguing over hypothetical loopholes ... Occam's Razor says take one look at that princess picture, they're just engaging in copyright infringement (and too stupid to realize it).

Sorry to bring up an old thread. King's Island was promoting a Superheroes Sunday over the weekend where you could meet Cap, Thor, Ironman, Hulk and Spidey. Me and my son showed up and surprise...CANCELLED...due to unforseen circumstances beyond the park's control. We have gold passes to the park so hanging out riding rides was fine with us but thought it was odd.

What's also weird at Kings Island is I have seen one location (Snoopy's Boutique maybe?) that had Minnie and Olaf plush. Which is more of a distributor thing, but still odd. It got confusing when they lost the Paramount rights, but could keep the rights to Nickelodeon for a few years. After losing those, they could keep the Spongebob ride, but Spongebob was also at Universal. One person probably owns everything.

Keeping note of some of the folks in this thread for when Universal eventually announces the fairly substantial upgrade plans for Marvel Super Hero Island.

I had tickets for the super hero breakfast that morning. $15 a head is a bargain compared to Disney prices! Supposedly, the cancellation was due to something along the lines of an injury, missed flight or some other unforeseeable event. It's not related to Universal at all. That would have been cleared in advance. This was last minute.

I figured it was something along these lines but was just curious if anyone heard anything. Thanks.
