March Getaway (aka: 2nd Attempt at our 1st trip w/o the Baby) & My First Trip Report!

Thanks for taking the time to read my first trip report! A little disclaimer before we begin: my camera started acting a bit funky on this trip – shutting itself off, flash totally blowing out faces on indoor shots, etc. – so my report will not be super “photo heavy”. Although totally disappointed by the camera performance on this trip, one good thing has come out of it – I have FINALLY convinced DW that a new DSLR camera is in order! I detect a father’s day gift on the horizon so I’m ready to go for our next trip in early December! Disclaimer over….now on with the report!

The Cast
Since this is my first report, I thought I should introduce the “players” and give you a little of our story!

Me: Mike – I’m an event manager at a local college and, therefore, suffer from the inability to do anything without going over-the-top. Holidays (we have 10 full-sized, fully decorated/themed Christmas trees in our house – my grandma always says our house looks like Macy’s!), birthdays (DD’s 1st b-day party was pretty crazy and about pushed my wife to the edge!) and just about anything else I can do bigger than it needs to be!

DW: Chrissy – Assistant professor of nursing at a local nursing college in addition to wrapping up classes and starting a dissertation for her PhD. She has learned to accept my crazy ways and indulge my madness!

DD: Addison – Our 16 month old bundle of energy. As the title of this report suggests, she did not accompany us on this trip. Her first trip was last summer (7 mos) and will be going again for her 2nd b-day later this year. She’s a total riot, makes us laugh on a daily basis and has completely brightened our lives.

Our little family in June 2010 - DD's first trip!

Our love of WDW:
How did it begin? Well, we were set up on our first date by mutual friends. Sometime during that first dinner together (late July), the topic of WDW came up and we both confessed a “Disney obsession”. Our friends were also fans of the parks and we all decided it would be fun to take a trip together. Within the first month, the trip was booked. Less than two months after that, I knew she was the “one” and made a fateful call to the (now defunct) Disney Fairytale Engagement Center. It was booked and the plan was in place. In late March, we all traveled to Disney together and had a fantastic time. Four days into the trip, we walked into the Rose Garden at Cinderella Castle, which was roped off just for us. On the boat dock, the Engagement Center cast members had setup a Victorian loveseat and a small table with a chilled bottle of sparkling cider, a dozen roses and the toasting flutes I had shipped down in advance. We posed on the loveseat so our friends could take our picture and 30 seconds later I was down on one knee. She said “yes”, sealed the deal with a kiss and all the guests waiting for the fireworks cheered as they watched the scene unfold. It was a perfect evening and solidified the fact that WDW was now “our place”. We tied the knot 18 months later and returned to the World for a week stay at AKL and a 7-night Western Caribbean cruise. In the 9 years since the proposal, we’ve traveled to WDW at least once, if not twice a year. We have a digital countdown clock that we used before our wedding…now that clock is used to countdown the days until our next WDW trip. It is typically reset the day we get home from the most current trip so the new countdown can begin!

Is there any day at WDW worse than departure day?
The answer is a definite no-and no worse day in life either!!!!!!!

Great TR-thank you for sharing it! That Spinach Gnocchi looked amazing!! Hoop-Dee-Doo looks like so much fun!
So glad you have another trip booked and countdown in full swing.
We usually don't have another trip booked yet upon ending a trip and that makes the DWD (Disney Withdrawal Depression) even worse!

A few years back we got in the habit of booking our next trip before leaving for the current trip - made coming home a little easier! The countdown clock helps too....we keep in our room so we see it every morning!

The Hoop-Dee-Doo was a riot - we'll definitely take Addie on a future trip. I highly recommend it! The gnocchi was amazing as well....my mom and grandma make it from scratch, so to find one at a restaurant THAT good is saying something!

Thanks for reading...glad you enjoyed the report!

Thanks for reading and glad you enjoyed it! The whole Snow White/Alice thing had us laughing...we usually try to keep track of how many little incidents like that we encounter! I think a trivia quiz should be built into ticket prices and/or admission! :ROFLOL:

Thanks and glad you liked it! Yeah....that roller coaster story had us laughing for the rest of the day. They were so sure of themselves I didn't have the heart to correct them! I could understand mixing up the coaster, but not sure how they got that the monorail dropped you off at the Boardwalk!

Great Trip Report, Thanks for sharing!

Yes...a little time away for just us was definitely in order. We missed her like crazy, but at 16 months and really starting to walk, I think she would have been quite a challenge. Hoping when we go later this year, she'll be a bit more manageable!

yeah that boardwalk coaster eh? lol that made me lol for real!!!

It was almost as funny as the llittle scooter bumper cars we witnessed!!

Great report, I am so sorry to hear how it started however. What a bummer of a way to begin the trip. But it dif. looks like you made up for it.

OK so you are a great hubby, think you could give some pointers to my hubs? You dif. earned yourself some great points with the purchase of the purse.

You were extremely lucky with the lines, we never got to ride Soarin' this go around, because the lines were outrageous. Seriously. But just like you, we are DVC members-though this last trip we paid out of pocket-so we know we will be back.

And you have a gorgeous family. We are taking our son back over the summer he will be 2 1/2 at that point I can't wait to take him back there. I know how you guys felt, we felt so guilty and tried to ignore the feeling every now and then and have a great time. But its so hard not to. Just remember your next trip will be here before you know it.

And I can't wait to read it then...

Great trip report! I will also be giving my shot at my first trip report for me and my mom's trip in September!
I have to say I really really like how you two take some confetti from your engagement night and make wishes on your last day. It's really nice way to end a trip and to remind yourselves of that wonderful day

Excellent report! I hate that you had to deal with so many travel issues, both in January and now again in March. But I think you had the right attitude in focusing on how your next flight is already paid for. :D That's a nice bit of pixie dust!

I adore your tradition of making a wish on your last night with the confetti from your engagement. ADORABLE!

Thanks for sharing!

Yes - it was definitely a frustrating way to start a trip...twice! When they took us off the plane, we were beginning to think this trip was just doomed! So relieved we finally made it and were able to have a great time.

Thanks for the nice compliment about our family - I'm a lucky guy with two lovely ladies! Our daughter is almost 17 months now and is a riot. I'll be anxious to hear about your summer trip with your son! DD will be a little younger than that when we take her in December...we're crossing our fingers for a great time!

Looking forward to catching up on your TR...haven't been online all weekend! Thanks again for reading!

Thank you! I'll look for your report this fall. I had a great time writing this one - thought it would be a good one to test the waters since it was a fairly quick trip. Now I wish I had been doing these all along...I think it will be fun to look back and read these down the road.

The confetti thing just kind of came to us one day before our Disneymoon trip and just "stuck"! :ROFLOL:

Loved it!

No better compliment than that....thanks!!

Thanks for reading...and CONGRATS to you and Brett! I enjoyed reading your previous reports and have been one of the hundreds following your story! Chrissy and I even wandered out towards Sunset Point after our breakfast at Kona to check out your wedding location. We seriously considered a Disney wedding, but in the end, we had too many important people who wouldn't be able to make the trip.

Yes...the free flights were a nice surprise and a great way to save a bit since we'll have to buy three tickets for our next trip!

The confetti tradition is a fun little thing just for "us" on our trips! There have been a couple times that we almost forgot to bring the confetti before we left home, but one of us always seemed to remember at the last minute. This summer we took a picture of DD in her stroller "at the scene of the crime"....it was surreal being back there with a baby. Next March will be the 10 year anniversary of the proposal...I'm thinking we need to sneak in a little trip to celebrate! :sohappy:

Thanks for reading...glad you liked my first attempt. I'm looking forward to your next report!

Thank you! I've been reading everyone's reports for so long, I figured it was about time I wrote one myself! It was a lot of fun...looking forward to writing one for our December trip.

We were thrilled with the plane tickets and point refund - totally unexpected, but in the end, it was worth the trouble!

Thanks for reading!

Thanks...we think she's pretty cute as well! You'll really like Tony's....we've always had great meals there. It is typically pretty loud in there, so don't plan on a quiet evening! I highly recommend that gnocchi if they still have it...my mouth waters just thinking about it! :ROFLOL:

Wow! For a first trip report you sure set the bar high! I read the majority of the report in the wee hours several nights ago. I totally looooved it. Y'all did a great job of coming back after the setback in the beginning with your flights. Glad you still had such a great trip and have free flights for your next adventure. Guess that means we'll be able to look forward to your next report! WooHOOOO!!! :sohappy:

Thanks so much for sharing your adventures with us!
