Yes, I can pretty much assure you that the ride will not change because one child found it too much to handle....
Dude the world is changing weather you like it or not. The ride most likely will be changed in the future because people will complain to Disney that the ride is to scary. My older brother was scared as crap so he never went on again. I'm not saying the ride has to go. I'm just saying the person hanging should go.

The world changing, time counting on, or the tides coming in or out has nothing to do with the introduction of this ride (neither do the changes at SW). If anything, WDW will put up a placard as useless as the reply sent to the OP advising people their little ones may not like what they see. But that's about it. They're not going to spend to change a ride because a parent thought their little prince or princess could handle it and were proven wrong....

Look, suicide is very scary and kids should not see it at Disney what so ever. I saw that happen in my area and it scared the crap out of me. Ever since I saw that I thought it is nothing to joke about or have in the Haunted Mansion. Thats all I'm saying.

Then don't take them in there until they are old enough to ride it. Then do conduct some basic research on what rides may not be appropriate for younger kids. And do not look to blame someone else for your (generic) failings as a parent. Because WDW is not changing the ride....

Dude it's WDW. This should not be in there for kids to have nightmares about.

The ride part should never been changed. from start when you load the doombuggys to finish it is a amazing experience and story. I have said this before there is no concern or complain with the actual ride. If not Disneys best it is right up there in the top five best that is offered.

Kids can have nightmares about anything. Do research....

Here's a couple of examples:

One time in kindergarten someone told me there was a giant bird that would come get children and take them away. For weeks, I plotted where I would hide in my house. I'll never forget that. Another time, I caught snippets of that movie "Omen" that my mom was watching. To this day, I am still scared of the devil...

No one can say for certain what Disney will do in any given situation. That said, with a ride that's been there since 1971 (and even a couple years longer in DL), in my opinion they're not going to take the hanging man out. If someone can't handle that effect, then they need to not visit.

Yes but, WDW is not a place for kids to cry. Look what Walt Disney said.

And from the onset they had rides and attractions involving scary witches and evil stepmothers. What's your point, caller?

They're not changing anything simply because you got a form email reply....

Yes, because this ride was Walt's idea in the first place and has been going strong since 1969 in DLR and 1971 in WDW. If he and the imagineers had their way it would have actually been scarier. If you don't like it just don't freaking ride it, and don't by any means ever go to DLP and ride Phantom Manor b/c that one actually is "scary/gory" whatever you want to call it.

As far as the "ghost host" hanging at the beginning, when I was a kid I didn't even realize it was there the first few ride throughs, and then depending on when you go (in from really bright sunlight) you can hardly see it through the screen at the top of the stretching room anyway.
If you like the ride and don't like that part, then ask to bypass the Stretching Room. But let me tell you, the original artwork of the ghost host in the mansion itself would make no sense if not for that scene in the beginning of the ride.

The fact of the matter is suicide happens and $%^& happens in general. It's life, it's happened for all of time and just because someone is a pansy doesn't mean that it has to be taken out.

The ghosts all had to die some way, some traumatically and some not so. What are we going to tell everyone as far as the ride goes, that they all died from morbid obesity or overdosing on alcohol or overeating fast food or something?! o_O

At the rate we're going might as well just say they all died of stupidity because many here agreeing with OP could actually relate to it.

If you don't like something, just don't go on it. I hate extreme flume rides so I don't go on Splash. I just move on with my life and still ultimately enjoy WDW to the max. I don't come on a forum and whine and cry about it, just because I don't choose to like or enjoy it, doesn't mean someone else doesn't or can't.

All I'm saying is this is not appropriate for children and should be removed. And you turned this into a feud.

This is hardly a feud. I simply stated the facts and if you don't like it just move along. Don't you have some kind of homework to be doing?!
There are many things that can be considered inappropriate for children and could be removed from many of the Parks (not just WDW) and here you are saying the HM is it? HAHAH Stop I'm laughing so hard I'm crying. :hilarious:

We recently returned from a 11 day Disney trip March 4 - 14. Exhausting but worth every minute of it. yet there are a few things I noticed and am concerned about, mainly the Haunted Mansion stretch room toward the beginning of the attraction. This was the first trip for our only daughter faire age 5. We thought this would be a good age for her first visit as it would be when she would be old enough to remember alot of the magic yet young enough to believe in the magic. One thing that really got her upset and in tears was the opening scene to Haunted Mansion at MagicKingdom. We never expected there would be a few moments of total darkness plus the lightning and scream nearly sent her into a fit. Disney is a place for families with children!!!!! I was appalled at how no cast member told us we probably should not take her into that scene. We spoke to a cast member at the ride exit who smiled to cheer her up, but still that beginning scene needs to either be changed or removed if disney is going to market as a family park for children. The rest of the ride is amazing, as our little princess faire could sit close to mommy and daddy if scared and there was no pitch black darkness. The music was fun and the characters inside the ride were more appropriate for children during most of the scenes. The beginning however really disturbed her and made her not wanting to ride too much more that day as she was still in shock of the total darkness. The majority of our vacation was great besides that one moment of terror in my daughters eyes. Please consider an update or change in the stretch room, maybe just to remove the total darkness to take into consideration the emotions and vulnerability of the child. When older she will learn to appreciate the ride for what it is as a classic.

So sorry, but it is called "The Haunted Mansion" o_O If that's your mindset, why allow your kids to watch Disney movies at all? Each one has some scene that was dark, scary and even showcased death. I don't think that a fun, scary moment for 98% of guests should be changed or removed because of a scared child. When I took my nephew, I made sure to do my research before we got there just so there were no surprises. Hopefully the little one has no emotional scars, who knows maybe she'll have forgotten all about it in six months:)
