Parents should not need to adjust when visitng a place called Walt Disney World aka a place design for family and children. It is the people who always have to have thrill or scary attractions in order to have fun who need to visit six flags, Universal or busch Garden where those requests can be met. If I take my daughter to those places and she is scared it is not right for me to complain there, as those parks are designed to be age specific and have rides or shows that cater to audience which can handle scares. But disney is not those kind of parks and which is why we love it there. Oh and Disney agrees with me! Have gotten back a email response from last week and they agree and said will continue to provide and improve ride and attractions to accomodate all its guests. Do not believe me? I can foward you the email. and this is the type of service and understanding we have come to expect from Disney which is why we will return for years to come. It is what disney does that no other theme park or company can match. Sorry you do not feel the same way but it is good to know the company itself does not see me as a bad parent for wanting my child to enjoy all ride and attraction the park has to offer.

Yeah, many a guest has received a kind well worded, non committal response from Disney. They are canned responses. I would not get your hopes up for Disney Changing the Haunted Mansion because your 5 year old was scared. Hopefully you will look back at this in a few years and remember this not as your daughter being scared but a parenting lesson learned. The attraction is a judgement call for parents. Sometimes we parents need to spend a little time in advance to know exactly what we exposing our children to and take responsibility for a bad judgement call. It is not to say you're a bad parent just one that made an ooops. We as parents can teach our children to never shoulder responsibility or we can teach them to blame others. There are plenty of resources out there if one takes the time to be a proactive parent. Yes it takes some time but likely it will be far more effective way to utilize time than writing letters to Disney about the Haunted Mansion being scarey. It is in the Name and to be expected.

Under Cover Tourist has a good starting point for a quick article. 10 Disney World Attractions with a HIGH SCARE FACTOR. Also Burnbaum has a book, Disney World with Kids and there is plenty more. You're going to find the warnings at your finger tips though as quickly as you found this site and email address for WDW to complain. I'd recommend the proactive parenting research and not only when it comes to Disney Parks.

Again, you do realize that different things scare different people right?

My daughter-scared of Pooh and friends and Bugs Life. She LOVED THE HECK outta Thunder Mountain and Test Track which scare other kids.

What are your thoughts about height requirements then?!?

When my DS first rode Body Wars at Epcot he was just 3. There was not a height requirement at the time. It had an age of 3. We took him aboard but we were stopped by well meaning CMs asking his age. 3 I said and they looked at me questioningly. I whipped out his multiday ticket as proof as if he was younger than 3 years old he was free.

Son rode and had a blast, his Dad came off Body Wars with a headache that lasted the day, me slightly queasy and my 3 year old so freaking excited with a lets do it again. As a family of 4 we are never ever doing Mission Space again, still other are fine. Go figure.

Look I think the stretching thing is alright except for the part with the person hanging. I think that part is a little disturbing for children.

There is absolutely no reason that The Haunted Mansion should be changed! Disney parks are supposed to be parks for all ages, so it's the parent's responsibility to research what kind of rides their child can or cannot go on based off of their child's needs or personalities. Like someone said earlier, it's the Haunted Mansion. Not a tour through a Sunshine Mansion. Of course it's going to have scary elements.

And guess what? The kid might have been frightened during the ride this time, but they'll get over it. My sister used to be terrified of the characters, she got over it. I was petrified of the Great Movie Ride when I was 5. I cried the entire time. But guess what? I got over it, and I love that ride now.

My son was 5 the first time we took him on Alien Encounter. I took the time to explain to him everything that was going to happen. I pointed out some of the effects as we entered and reminded him that the monster is just a big rubber suit with motors in it - just like the Presidents. I also told him to listen because when the lights go out and you hear the sounds like the monster is behind you and feel the "breathing" of the monster that I was going to yell out "oh no, it's got my arm". I never got a chance to do that, because he did it first, he even added a blood curdling scream. We walked out of there laughing and talking about how good the effects were. My only advice is parents, be parents, and prepare your kids for what live has in store - be it good or bad. And unfortunately, life will have uncomfortable stuff that they will need to deal with and it is unreasonable to think that you (or they) can change every little thing that upsets them...

Yeah, let's go change a WDW classic (along with Pirates this is definitely one of the all time classics). I don't think I went on it when I was very young, but I was still relatively young when I went on it and was fine. That's not the point. The point is it has been around for a very long time and should not be changed. If you are concerned about any rides there are cast members who are there to inform you on what to expect. If you don't think it is right for your family then don't go on it.

I'm not sure kids even understand, let alone know about, the concept of suicide. I feel like these are adult matters we are just projecting onto the young ones.
I disagree.
Plenty of kids have been protected about suicide, depression etc.. yet they are the ones who kill themselves at 14 or younger.

I remember there was a very nice documentary about that. Adults just want to ignore and claim they are "protecting". They are not... they make things worse. Just like those people who think abstinence and zero sexual education is the solution for the "kids" who are coming of age.

True. But, something like that happened in my area and now I really think they should get rid of it.

So now we're comparing our beloved Haunted Mansion to suicide? Have you gone mad? I am positive the troll who started this post is getting quite a kick from all of us.
