I can't imagine the beautiful entrances to the parks being destroyed by metal detectors. The parks also already have a bottle neck at bag check. Creating a new one is just going to make entrance a headache. This is jumping at security when the policy in place apparently worked.

It is all about the perception of safety.

OK, small question, why is everyone {IE twitter} saying the guy t ried to get into Magic Kingdom when it happened at DHS and he was caught at the No. 8 Bus stop ?

Oh ? So Disney World apparently means Magic Kingdom ? {confused but whatever works for the police works for me}
The original story/report I read said Magic Kingdom.

Maybe he didn't really think much about it until it was discovered?
It's possible but that doesn't give reason as to why he ran. I mean if that was me for instance and the security guard mentioned it to me as soon as I realized what I had on me I would politely step back and tell them I forgot it was on me and tell them Id go put it back in my vehicle/hotel room. I'm sure police would be notified so Id tell them the same thing and welcome them to escort me to do it. I certainly wouldn't take off running.

He was carrying the gun illegally - his concealed carry permit had expired 10 years ago. This may have not been the first time he was caught carrying illegally, and he might have been facing prison time. Carrying a concealed weapon without a permit is a felony in Florida.

Right, as it is in most states. Maybe I just don't see the logic in running from an area with a large police presence, you're not getting away lol.

I also think if his first reply with the security guard was a more responsible response then they just might not of alerted police and just maybe he could of went and put it back in his vehicle without police being notified but the fact he acted like a 12yr old at first, he was doomed from the start.

That guy was up to no good. He didn't simply forget he had a gun. Glad they caught him.

Obviously he didn't forget he had a gun he just didn't realize it wasn't ok....in the state of Florida you can carry your gun (if your permit is valid :)) almost anywhere you can even go into a court house and they will check it in at the door.

I drove around for 3 months with an expired drivers license this year (honestly didn't notice date) in the time was my vacation to Florida passed TSA with it (that's how I found out) and drove around Florida as well. Point is something being illegal has no bearing on safety or right or wrong.

So yes did he break the law but was he causing danger...no.

I remember having yto hand over my pocket knives {I always carry two} when I went to the Georgia Aquarium, and World of Coke in Atlanta a few years ago, claimed them both as I left; everything was find and dandy and everyone was really polite too

People were asking why he ran - I was just giving a possible reason.

He was up to no good. Could have hurt alot of people. I think this was more than oh I just didn't realize it wasn't okay at Disney.

That statement should have had a preamble "that this is my opinion"

Edit: point of my post invalid licence aside that there are very few places you can't carry legally so it is much more plausible in FL to forget something like this than say the same type of scenario in California.

He's a lawyer, though. He really should have known better in a lot of instances.

Not to mention the fact that there is a big lake between you and your car, with no pedestrian access....

I mean, where was he going to go? Obviously not thinking. (Not that he thinking to begin with...).
