Back in the early 1990s there were sharp shooters and police all over the place at The Hotel Plaza. We were staying at the Grosvenor at the time. Apparently they'd found a man with a gun. At the time we didn't know what was going on and many guests were scared. We came to learn a man had commited suicide in one of the rooms at the Wyndam Palace. Very sad.

Vegas has it right....not a single hotel has a balcony

There is a hotel in Atlanta....has a very tall atrium (50 stories or so)

They have to keep a "jumper tarp" behind the front desk, as it happens often there.

I've stayed there before on the 38th floor in 2000. It's called the Marquee. Well tall and very scary when you look down into the lobby from that height!

This is terrible. I can't imagine being depressed or suicidal at the most wonderful place in the world. I'm sure there was some underlying problem. I hope no kids witnessed this.

I wondered what everyone heard...i heard from a Contemporary worker something about a "love triangle" with three guys in the hotel room and an argument in the hotel room and he was pushed off ...
That doesn't sound like suicide

Hi Speck! Let's say I was staying in one of your hotels and I got depressed and decided to jump. Would you throw out the safety net for me?

No, simply because if you made the decision to jump, you would have your reasons.

I realize this is off subject, but since it was brought up... the MGM Grand in Las Vegas has terrace suites. Your room has an outdoor patio overlooking The Strip. The Stardust Hotel also had rooms in their East Wing (9-story building) with balconies. But you're right, the majority of the hotels to not have balconies, especially the really tall buildings.

those are the hallways

Yes, but they are still balconies that you can jump off of. I heard that that entire area down there was put there so that if people jump, they won't land in the casino. Just what I heard, though.

This is truly a sad event. I just hope no children witnessed this, I know it was at 4 AM but you never know....my prayers go out to the families.

sorry, it's high up and you can jump....and yes the casino is built with a roof for that, and many reasons.....name one casino where there isn't a roof? How would they put up security cameras?

This happens at the Contemporary more than you would think. People have jumped off of the inside balconies as well.
